Two Riddick Sequels Still In The Works

Vin Diesel revealed to MTV that screenwriter David Twowy is writing the scripts for two Riddick sequels. And for Diesel, the question isn’t if another Riddick movie will go into production it is if they will attempt to “shoot the two chapters at the same time” ala Lord of the Rings or The Matrix sequels. Diesel has been talking up a third Riddick film for some time now. In March 2006 he sad a storyline had already been written for a third film in which Riddick would enter The Underverse. The fourth Riddick film would then conclude  the “Chronicles” trilogy, with a return to Furya.

The character of Riddick first appeared in Pitch Black. The Furyan warrior went on to appear in one big screen sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick, and two video games The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and the upcoming The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Last we heard, Universal was not interested in producing the films, and that they had planned to fund a sequel independently.

Discuss: Does anyone still care about Riddick?

  • I like riddick, ill watch them
  • september11th
More like chronicles of riddikulouz, amirite?
  • Jeff
I love riddick and wish more time was spent on this character and universe
  • nick
Uh... What do you mean, 'Does anyone still care about Riddick?'

    BRING US MORE RIDDICK! PLEASE!
  • Coleman
    Great news!!! Riddick is awesome!
  • J.D.
Can't wait 'till they come out with Underverse Underoos.
  • Domino
"The fourth Riddick film would then conclude the “Chronicles” trilogy".
Would someone please explain to Vin what a "trilogy" is.
  • Agent J
Hell Yeah I still care about Riddick. Bring on those 2 sequels. I'll watch em.
  • Agent J
Heck Yeah I still care about Riddick. Bring on two more sequels. I'll watch em.
  • Agent J
    Yeah!!!!!
  • McGruff
The game kicked ass as did Pitch Black. And even though Chronicles wasn't very good, it still contained enough Riddick to make it watchable. These next two flicks should be Riddick-ulous.
  • PJ
I wasn't as impressed with Pitch Black as some people, and consequently approached Riddick with caution. Not only did I love it, I know a lot of people who also did. I'm praying and hoping the sequels eventually emerge.
  • NO. NO WE DONT STILL CARE BOUT RIDDICK. OR FOR VIN DIESEL FOR THAT CASE. PITCH BLACK I DID LIKE BUT MAN WAS CHRONICLES COMPLETE GARBAGE.
  • Matt
"The game kicked ass as did Pitch Black."
My thoughts exactly. Never watched CoR.
  • Mr. B
Pitch Black = Load of fun
Chronicles of Riddick = Load of shite

Riddick was far more fun when he was bringing out the worst in people. Like Nolan's Joker, he held the world view that people are pretty terrible on their own, you just need the right circumstances to show it. The most interesting part of Chronicles of Riddick was the prison escape sequence.
  • Loved Pitch Black (even though it was somewhat an Aliens rip off).

Chronicles of Riddick was a total Dune rip off (except no Sandworms).

I guess there was an animated movie with Riddick in it too, but who cares.

So...unless they make these new Riddick hard R rated flicks, with the bad-ass Riddick we got in Pitch Black....then I guess I'd think about seeing it...!
  • Aqualeo
If they go back to how Pitch Black was, I think it would be okay...Chronicles was just bad
  • JP Dyno
Domino > Was the first movie called "Chronicles of riddick: Pitch Black"....no...
  • Hell Yeah!
Riddick is one of my favorite characters for all time!
I'll say bring them on - it's about time! There are so many riddick fans that keep asking "when they'll stop talking and finally get to work!?" - it's been how much, three years of spoilers and no actual work?

In the last few years there were so little movies from this genre! And just a small part of them worth watching...
So GO GO GO ... !
  • radiantarchon
    can't wait. should be fun
  • HELL YEAH!
I love Riddick he's an awesome character.
I agree with everyone that the sequel wasn't that good but the game Escape from Butcher Bay and Riddick Fury more than made up for it.
Now I just wonder what happen to the riddick game remake....
  • Captain Awesome
Riddick was good when he was in that indie film called Pitch Black. Riddick then turned into a Sci-Fi Channel "hero" after that or something.

I'm glad Cameron is coming back to sci-fi. I can't take this MTV shit anymore.
  • Agent J
    Its gonna be awesome.
  • FreakFlag76
Who cares....Diesel sucks anyway. Nobody is interested in a Sly or Arnaold wanna be.
  • Did anyone even care about Riddick in the first place? Those movies sucked nuts.
  • JP Dyno > No. The first movie was called just "Pitch Black". Later on they released it again with the short animation "Dark Fury" and the "Chronicles" movie, all in one pack as a trilogy. It was a collector's edition or something. Because of that special edition many people mistaken them for a trilogy, but they are not! The pack was supposed to rise some more money from the franchise and that is why they made this special edition...

Domino > The "Chronicles" is a trilogy. We have only the first part. The next two movies is yet to be created. "Pitch Black" is in the same universe as the "Chronicles" but it's not a part of the trilogy, just like the games, the animation "Dark Fury" and the digital comix (or whatever it's was called) aren't. In fact "Pitch Black" is not about the character of Riddick - it's about a bunch of people, who shipwrecked on a dangerous planet. Riddick is one of the main characters of the story, but the story isn't all about him, like it's in the "Chronicles" trilogy...
It's something like the "Star Wars" original trilogy is one thing. The new trilogy (movies ?1,2,3) is a second thing, and then you have everything else - comic books, "Clone Wars", games and so on...

    I hope you've got it. ;)
  • Dave
Why is Diesel all of the sudden revisiting all fo these things? XXX, Fast and the Furious, and Riddick too? Somebody's tired of losing Disney movies to Dwayne Johnson.
  • butcherbay_inmate#311
Give me Riddick or give me death!

"slow and ahead? i can go slow and ahead want you come chum some of this s*$#!" chief brody
  • Chump Force 1
Riddick has a built in fan base...get a good quality story and the film(s) will make money.

If Babylon A.D. does well this weekend, look for Riddick sequel talk to get more serious. There is a studio that will pick it up I'm sure.
  • The Bull
So will there be a sequel to The Pacifier? That is what I'm more interested in. Maybe they could even do a cross-over with Riddick and The Pacifier.
  • Oh Blair
THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
  • gah
    This is RIDDICKulous.
  • Superman
Hell yeah. Diesel's only character I liked. It's his star wars and I'd love to see him back as riddick instead of fucking mr. nanny or whatever that was.
  • Superman
Pacifier 2 or Chronicles of riddick 2? tough choice!!!!
  • charles
    man this series sucks hard.
  • thats awesome news!
  • Jason Gold
YAY! Its "Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez Day" here at Slashfilm.com...
    sigh...
  • KeanE
    Yesssssss!!!

Riddick was always a good character...cant wait for this to come out!!!
  • Lets be honest here- Unless Diesel hits the powerball and finances these films himself, what studio will chalk up the coin and produced these movies? ANSWER- NO ONE! Diesel is yesterday's news.
  • Bryan
Great news! Pitch Black was great. Riddick was also awesome, but I think they should keep the two sequels lower budget like Pitch Black was. Although, the HD version of Riddick was killer. Hopefully it hits Blu-Ray soon as well. I'd love if the followup films was as high budget as Riddick, but I doubt they would make that kind of cash back.

Make another video game as well to go along with the flicks.
  • Bob
    @ entertainmenttodayandbeyond

I will be honest here. I love Riddick and there is still more potential for this franchise. If Hairspray can get a sequel, then Riddick definitely needs another
  • Agent J
YAY! Its “Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez Day” here at Slashfilm.com…I'm not sighing though...xD
  • Four films equals a trilogy? LOL, I'll still watch them, though.
  • Rockme
Woohoo, I want more Riddick!!!!!! I love the universe.
Pitch Black was great and I enjoyed Chronicles also.
  • Josh
I'm I one of the select few who actually likes Diesel and Rodriguez and Walker when they are doing their action stuff? The Fast and Furious series is one of the few action series we have going right now and it's a shame. I'm glad it is going back to its roots and explaining the hole between the first two movies.

Now on to ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR. Apparently there’s a petition floating around the internet that seeks to draft me as director of the next installment of the series. (It seems my old ALIEN 3 script figures into this master plan, too, in ways that aren’t entirely clear to me.) My reaction is “Hmm.” Flattering? Sure. Realistic? Not so much. See, if I’m going to spend a year of my life (and more if I write it) on the third installment of a science-fiction series, well, why wouldn’t I just do the third installment of my own science-fiction series?

    Catch my drift?

  • Does anyone care about Vin Diesel, much less Riddick? I wish he would have stayed gone. Babylon AD looks bad, The Faster and the Furiouser will be horrible, and the new Riddick movies will prove that Vin Diesel cannot act.
  • louise
    PISS'A
    Bring them on.
    Riddick Rocks!
  • A+
Pitch Black was an awesome movie and Riddick was an awesome character. Then they made the next movie and it was pretty weak.

I like Diesel as Riddick but the 2nd movie really lost the appeal after such a strong intro. I wouldn't mind seeing them get made but only if they're good.
  • Dave Lister
I don't know, I loved Pitch Black, yes it was a HUGE Alen rip off, but it was a lot of fun. Naturally when C.O.R. came out the previews looked good to me, so I grabbed some people to see it with me the opening night. I'm not sure how, but a lot of people knew that movie sucked ass before I did, I have seen a lot of bad movies and a lot of flops in the theater, but never have I sat in a theater so empty on opening night. I just don't think people are interested. Pitch Black didn't really offer that much to make the sequel. That being said, maybe they should get the Video game people to write the script, I thought that was very good.
