Michael Keaton Cast in Toy Story 3

Michael Keaton will voice the role of Ken (as in Barbie’s boyfriend Ken) in Toy Story 3. Jodi Benson (who voiced Barbie in the Toy Story series) revealed the news to IESB. This will be Keaton’s second appearance in a Pixar film, after voicing Chick Hicks in Cars.

What We Already Know about Toy Story 3:

  • Toy Story 3 will be released in digital Disney 3D on June 18th 2010.
  • Directed by Lee Unkrich, who edited the previous films, and co-directed Toy Story 2
  • Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger, and Jodi Benson are confirmed to return.
  • The story follows the toys as they are dumped in a day-care center after Andy leaves for College.
  • Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) wrote the Treatment

  • Randy Newman will provide the scrore

    How weird!

Just a few days ago I was thinking

"Is he ever going to come back?"

good for him, he rocks. Beetlejuice ftw.
  • Oh Blair
I can't wait for toy story 4! LOL
  • Chris
Wow, dumped in a day care center? Sounds like The Brave Little Toaster without the happy ending. Talk about depressing.

I guess they scrapped the "Made in China" draft, eh?

    Smart move, Disney.
  • @evergreen, from what I remember, after Disney bought Pixar, Steve Jobs had Disney completely shutdown all work on the non-Pixar TS3 and Pixar restarted the movie from scratch (I'm guessing a condition of the buy-out).

Digital Disney 3D? This just code for a way of doing CGI or is actually going to be in 3D? Mad that technology made 50 odd years ago is being promoted once again as the "next big thing"..

I hope they give him more than a glorified cameo like they did in Cars. Keaton is a great actor and I don't understand why he seems to have been pushed to the B - / C + list.
He was the second best Batman ever. Hell - I'm not convinced Christian Bale is even better - just different.

Now I wonder if they'll recast Jim "Hey Vern" Varney who voiced Slinky Dog . . . or if they'll just write the character out. Maybe he got stretched out and lost his recoil. God knows I lost many a slinky that way.

    R.I.P Slinky Dog!

    No Multiplicity jokes yet? Classy.

Keaton's awesome. Every time I watch Jackie Brown, I wish got another hour on-screen.

And by another I mean one.
  • There was actually no Barbie in the first 'Toy Story'. Pixar wanted to include the character prominantly (as Woody's love interest, no less), but Mattel refused to licence the rights, believing that 'Toy Story' would be a failure and thus not wanting to be associated. The film's success changed their minds when it was time for 'TS2'.

How many Toy Story's do we need???
  • Captain Awesome
Will he be rubbing another man's rhubarb in this?
  • TheMarquis
He's fallen out of the public eye because he danced with the devil in the pale moonlight.
  • RageTreb
I wonder who will voice Slinky? Will they just find a soundalike?

Also, Barbie was only in Toy Story 2, so her being in the "series" is a bit of a misnomer.
  • Bart
    @RageTreb
Don't know. I think it best if they just take the character out. Don't even acknowledge Slink, or maybe in a picture in the background or something subtle.
Something in me wouldn't be surprised if we hear Larry the Cable Guy voicing him in TS3. Something in me would be nauseous, but not surprised.

They face a similar problem with Cars 2 now that George Carlin is gone. Although, while it still won't be the same as Carlin, there is an obvious solution to that one - Tommy Chong. They sound similar anyway, and hell, Cheech and Chong have reunited in real life, why not in a cartoon too???

I know - spend the time and resources creating a "new" Pixar film instead of another sequel. It's a trap.
  • charles
    yessssss
  • It's Incredibles!! Ken in Toy Story 3 . . . Amazing.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
Sounds like it's going to a be another Pixar classic.
  • Bruce wayne!
Cool news! he's got a cool voice. Michael Keaton is a under rated actor. Besides he's my fav. Batman
  • Da' joka'
He should physically assault barbie then yell.......You wanna get nuts??? COME ON!....let's get nuts!
  • Agent J
Alright the next installment of Toy Story looks to be pretty kick-as$.
  • Chip
If Toy Story 3 is just as great as the first two, then I will consider it to be one of the best trilogies ever made. However good it is, the fact that Pixar has never made a flop is a huge reassurance. I highly doubt their first flop (if there ever is one) will be a Toy Story movie.

    They can't replace slinky!
