To be honest, I think both posters suck. These fuckers they hire with these "mad photoshop skillz". Need some art classes in light and shadow design. Hollywood will do anything that's been proven to work and run it into the ground relentlessly (see: The gaming industry aswell). Anything from the overused LOTR remix "Requiem for a Dream" track in trailers to the blatant poster rip-offs (The State / Eagle Eye).

Yet when we do finally get "originality" it gets thrown by the wayside until audiences support it with their dollar. Then all of a sudden it's "cool" to do so. Anything to stir up familiarity.

Hollywood will latch onto it like starving piglets on a teat.

I'm sorry, the twilight trailer looks really bad. It provides a 'cheaply' made feel for something that has a big fan base. The only reason you can get excited for this is if you read the books. That's it. Otherwise its a pile of garbage "made for tv look" that got lucky and now it's opening in theaters.

Comparing Twilight to Harry Potter is sort of pointless. It's like comparing Superhero Movie to the Dark Knight (respectively). Though, the Potter movies aren't that good anyways. But at least the books are amazing. Not so with twilight. ugh.

i don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about harry potter vs. twilight. of course there are similarities, in the same way that all movies fitting into a certain genre do. these two in particular subscribe to the same demographic. yes, i'm disappointed about the prolonged wait for the new potter too, but it seems unfair to hold twilight in contempt just because it came out after the much deserved success of harry potter. i enjoy both book series equally, and only hope that the upcoming twilight movie does the same justice for the book, that the harry potter movies did.

The problem is that Emma Watson isn't naked on any of these posters. That's the real outrage here.

I really didn't find Twilight to be that original, wow - Vampires! Sure there were wizard stories, but Harry Potter was an entirely new concept. The Twilight movie looks really cheesy.

i just wanted to say...twilight is a movie made for teenagers (probavly emo, probably not). the rest of the people (like me) or at least most of them hate the movie. and that's ok too. you just have to see the other person's point of view and respect it. the movie will suck for some people and will be a masterpiece in the eyes of others. different people - different tastes. deal with it. Fuck Twilight. It's sell-out garbage for suburban teenage girls who listen to Evanescence and cry because it speaks to their "dark" lives. Harry Potter is a far superior series and while Twilight will probably turn out to be nothing more than a passing fad, Potter has real quality and longevity will be remembered with Lord of the Rings as one of the great works of fantasy. Perhaps not so much the movies - which are alright, and relatively faithful adaptations - but the books.

The movie, by the way, looks even worse. Looks like a goddamn Sci Fi original movie, and from what I've heard, even a lot of Twilight fans are pissed with the way-off casting.

I don't get the whole hype of this movie AT ALL. Maybe when the movie comes out all these fans will finally realize their mistakes and say "wow that kinda sucked". At least I hope they do.

I hope people can eventually get an understanding of what a good movie truly is.

Yes, Twilight knocked Harry Potter out of it's best selling spot, 2 and half weeks after DH came out. Harry Potter has sold over 400 million copies and been translated into almost every language. Twilight has sold what, 8 million copies? 10? Pathetic. There is no comparison. In content, sales, writing style, character development, or anything. Twilight sucks. I did not say Twilight had no fans, I think it's been proven that there is at the very least a very dedicated group of individuals willing to throw themselves into a meat grinder for their love of the series. I, however, will have to have a few more facts put into my lap before I believe that Twilight has even half the fanbase HP does.

I also never said that the story was being copied. Harry Potter has a fairly orginal, traditional fantasy/adventure plot with a nice sized helping of coming of age goodness. Twilight on the other hand is a love story with a supernatural twist, with a heaping of religious morals.

Do you know how many copies of the last Harry Potter book were sold world wide in the first 24 hours? 8.5 Million. How many copies of Breaking Down were sold in that same period? Only 1.3 million. That is a considerable difference. I have provided helpful links below to prove my sources. They are the New York Times and MTV respectively.

It may be true that Twilight knocked HP off the top spot of the bestsellers list, but that happens to everyone eventually. The "best seller" list is like the box office. It's for a set period of time, not for the overall earnings of a book. Therefore, of COURSE something is going to knock it off from the top. There's only so many people in the world, and eventually everyone will have their own copy of the novel. Since everyone and their dog pre-ordered the damn book it's numbers would logically drop off after a period of time. This does not mean that Twilight was superior, or won a fight. It simply means that Twilight came out AFTER Harry Potter did and sold a number of books during a set period of time. After all, Tropic Thunder knocked The Dark Knight from it's #1 spot but NO ONE in their right mind would say that it did better then TDK.

Go ask someone between the ages of 15 and 25 whether or not they've read/watched Harry Potter. Now ask the exact same people if they've read/want to watch Twilight. I have the feeling that HP will be the one on top. Twilight is trying to emulate that success, however it does not posses the mass appeal or quality of writing that the HP series has. As such, it will never reach the status or acquire the literary respect of HP.

PS Unless Twilight has suddenly added 4 more books to it's pedigree I find it very hard to believe that it was solely responsible for knocking HP down to '#9' as you put it. I'm too lazy to google the actual numbers, but you should at least 'try' to make your response seem halfway plausible.

Definately agree with you. I don't understand what the deal is with these Twilight books. Harry Potter is something completely different from twilight. There's none of this wishy-washy romance in HP and J.K. Rowling's writing is by far superior to Meyers. Twilight is essentially book one repeated 2 different times combined with explicit sexual content for the third and fourth. Even teenage girls could find that boring if they really appreciated the plot of a book.

Let me reiterate.....BOTH HARRY POTTER AND TWILIGHT ARE AWFUL!!
