The 8th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards will take place on October 18th 2008. We agree with The Playlist’s assessment: It’s great to see Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood finally getting some recognition for his incredible There Will Be Blood score. Greenwood was left out of Oscar contention due to stupid technicalities.

  • Andrew Aiello
    WTF? no theme from cloverfield?
  • Tom
hmm, i mis hans Zimmer on the list
  • Word, Greenwood's score was one of the best things about Blood.

Can anyone tell me why WALL-E is on that list when looking at ALL other nominations, its obvious that these films were released in 2007.
WALL-E is a 2008 release, right? That doesn't make sense to me, unless the score and song were penned in 2007 so they count.

It would be good to see James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer get nominated and win awards next year for TDK. The score is stunning.
  • evergreen
Agreed on TDK for next year as well as those dumb fucking technicalities that barred Greenwood.

Every facet of TWBB was intergral to its genius. I always hear complaints about how it doesn't jive with the film itself, but personally, I can't imagine anything else in its aural place.
  • @ theGinna

I bet they will. TDK's score was amazing.

Greenwood deserves this recognition, but the Atonement score by Marianelli truly deserved the awards it has won. It's pretty amazing, with some eloquent themes and utilizing a typewriter as part of the percussion.

I don't understand the inclusion of Wall-e here either. It must be something to do with the terms of the award.

Alex Desplat also did the score for Ang Lee's Lust, Caution(2007), which is pretty rich if you like romantic scores. Weird how that isn't listed either.

Eddie Vedder deserves the award he is nominated for. I can't understand how three songs from Enchanted were nominated for Oscars, while songs like Hard Sun and Guaranteed were left off. Made no sense.
  • It blows my mind how people look over The Assassination of Jesse James.
  • Sammy
    Eddie Vedder.
  • mike
Well-E should be off that list and Jesse James should be on... the Wall-E score isnt that good IMO and it is from this year not last year like the other noms in all categories.

Jonathan is right, it shouldn't be over looked, best score of last year (yes better than Blood, especially as a stand alone album)...

Though I don't think it could have gotten an Oscar nod since it was composed by 2 people, dont they have a rule on that (so the TDK Score can't be nominated either).

    Let's go Eddie
  • It's gotta be Eddie, the perfect music for that film.
  • Jim
I thought There Will Be Blood had a terrible score.
  • Rhys
The sound track to TWBB almost ruined the viewing experience for me. It was terrible.
  • YouJayDee
TWBB - great film. Almost switched off due to that highly irritating music.
