UPDATE: Someone was using my name in the comments below last night and starting, yes, drama. We’ve deleted the comments in question. This has occurred more than once on Slashfilm recently. We’re looking into it. For the record, yes, Slashfilm thinks this movie is a total pile. And I don’t hate all of our readers, c’mon.

UPDATE 2: FirstShowing’s Alex Billington has given Fireproof’s trailer a heart-felt endorsement. We are speechless (as in, I’m never talking to Alex again).

Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, VH1) stars in the Oscar-buzzing romantic drama, Fireproof. This stirring film is being poignantly described as, “Back Draft sucks face with the Left Behind franchise,” by Slashfilm.com. Opening in Earth’s theaters this September, Cameron stars as a “heroic” firefighter whose marriage is ebbing divorce. When his father gifts him a self-help book for romance entitled The Love Dare, Cameron willingly accepts, only to discover that the book’s 40-day plan is instilled with his father’s reborn faith. Choice line: “Marriages aren’t fireproof Michael, sometimes you get burned!” Choice scene: 1:55. Choice movie website/viral marketing/music selection: FireproofMyMarriage.com.

Discuss: Is it just me, or does Kirk Cameron sound and look like Corey Haim in this trailer? Did a certain film ever save your marriage, or totes destroy it? Do tell below.

  • Gianni
    Wow.....
  • evanz
I'm not actually going to watch the trailer, for fear of the biblical doctrination I will receive. Someone tell me if I'm wrong about that. Seriously, the only way I would watch anything with Kirk Cameron is if that smokin' hot blonde Playboy bunny Julie who played the nanny on Growing Pains shows up nude.
  • from big Tim
evanz you will remember that smokin blond when she right across from you
in hell smokin with a fire that can't be quenched! Take that to the bank!
  • evanz
    Awesome! Do you promise?
  • C-Ann
evanz "we" don't have to promise, God will deal with you. You condemn yourself all by yourself.
  • brian
low budget indy flick that feels like a tv movie from a church in georgia... count me out.
  • Sean
    looks bad and predictable.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
    I hate these movies.

    No thanks.
  • Pill
This looks just like one of the fictional movies in an episode of "Seinfeld".

Prognosis Negative, Chunnel, Sack Lunch, The Other Side of Darkness, Fireproof....
  • Windmillninja
    @Pill

How could you leave out Rochell, Rochelle?!?

"A young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk."

    Instant classic.
  • Josh
Will not be seeing this. Will not even be seeing the trailer. He should probably go back to teaching about jesus and slashfilm should go back to posting about things that people that visit this site would give a shit about.
  • cinemaniac1979
LOL @ "You never assume I would do anything worthy of respect."

Well, yeah Kirk. That's pretty spot-on.

That's because you do videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z-OLG0KyR4
  • Stoned One
    Ewwww

who wants to see a movie about saving your marriage the right way?

Kirk Cameron and the creators of Facing the Giants? Movie FAIL
  • C-Ann
Actually, it did not fail, I LOVED THE MOVIE FACING THE GIANTS! I guess it depends who ask if this movie failed. I think you just can't handle watching a movie unless it contains, profanity, vulgerness, what a shocker from a worldly person.
  • I am glad you decided to join this thread 23 weeks after the comments were made. Slow clap anyone?
  • Nathaniel
wait... there's a church in Georgia that makes movies? Like, feature-length Christian movies? Uhh...

Also, cinemaniac, I am perfectly open to the idea of God existing, though I have my own issues with that... however, that video was possibly the worst evidence for his existence I've ever been presented. Wow.
  • Graham
oh how the mighty have fallen
  • at least athiests or other religions don't release crap movies like this. (and i consider myself a christian...)
  • Cann
You consider yourself a christian or doubleminded, when it's conveinant for you to be a christian. Don't put God in a box.
  • Waah! People don't have the same religion as me. Waah!

Get over it! At least have enough courage to put yourself out on the internet with an account instead of just posting with the variations of the same name over and over.
  • Stoned One
Bananas are the best way to refute the claims of an atheist? WTF Kirk? I guess after the indie smash "hit" of Facing the Giants, the Georgian church could finally get a star.

I do not support propaganda thrown out there by a Baptist church. I will be protesting this movie outside of the theaters... hopefully Kevin Smith will show up with his poster board and glitter in hand. Oops, this movie won't make it to theaters. How sad...
  • gmaknit
it did make it to the theatres. oops on you!!!
  • :-( I guess. Are you a fan of these kinds of movies? If so, why comment on something written months and months ago?
  • cann
Yeah Stoned, why comment on something months and months ago...lol
Guess what, I am also a BIG FAN OF THIS MOVIE and so are many others i know who have already seen this movie and loved it.
  • Okay, well then find a movie site for people who love it. People on this site are obviously not interested in the Christian drivel that this movie sells.

If the mood in the comments section is already one-sided, why argue with them. It will just turn into a shouting match. Oh... is this your Christian nature to tell us all about the "joys" of Jesus and that we must repent to save our "soul". Go back and tell that to your delusional church buddies and pity(and judge) us non-believers.
  • btw....according to the trailor...you can save your marriage by making your wife coffee in the morning and sending her flowers. Thanks Kirk!
  • Sean
Hahaha. I love how he does something nice and then all her friends are like "no, he's just prepping you for divorce." WHAT?? Who does that?

    Crazy Christians!!
  • Just Peachy
What are you talking about? What makes you think everyone in the movie is depicted as a christian? The obvious christians sorta stand out, but i guess you wouln't get that would you?
  • Pete (original)
sounds like you all have your prejudices against Christianity in some form or another, but that being said, this movie looks like one i'd watch with my parents.

yeah, it looks low budget and tv-like, but the movie is made by a church congregation. that's pretty impressive to get national exposure for making Facing The Giants, and I guess now this.

Facing The Giants turned out to be pretty good. I had my own doubts about seeing it but it's pretty powerful and decently made.
  • Wow, they're really pounding the whole "Kirk Cameron is a hero" bit into your head, eh?
  • cinemaniac1979
    @Sean,

I'd like to point out that the negative Nancy in question is African American. This movie is clearly racist against Black People. I'm calling for boycott.

    /fighting the power.
  • ct
This movie looks like the definition of CHEESE BALL.... BUT, why is it that movies such as Da Vinci Code and Religulous (movies that push or question the foundations of religion or a specific religion, and in turn push their own ideas and beliefs) are not seen as "propaganda" or doctrine-feeding exploits, but movies like this one are. Seems like a double standard to me.
  • Goobity
Kirk Cameron is going to hell.
  • Jackie
Goobity, I think you have a special reservation waiting in hell.
  • Stoned One
    @ ct

*sigh* Religulous and The Da Vinci Code are two different kinds of films. I wouldn't use them in the same argument since both of them have different ways of propagating their anti-Christian doctrines. Religulous is a doc where Bill Maher is asking around. It seems like a Borat with religious aims. The Da Vinci Code is based in the facts of the Knights of the Templar mythos, but the difference is that it is a fictional story not really meant to cause a divide in the Christian world. Propaganda is not the most forefront of the film's aim, to entertain. I wish I could say the same about Fireproof, it seems like it is bent on the exact opposite, to bore. One would call Fireproof more propaganda since it is made by a CHURCH. It is like seeing a film that was made by the Third Reich.

I think that the fact that anything that rocks the foundation of religion and the Christian belief system such as The Last Temptation of Christ, is protested and defiled by the Catholic Church. I am just leveling the playing field.
  • C-Ann
Wow, that's definetly just your opinion, again, i guess it's all in who you ask, I haven't heard anything negative, in fact only positive on this movie from many people. The only time I hear negative which is on any topic or issue is on these dumb blogs. People just love to create disention, because they are miserable and unhappy and love to argue for the sake of arguing. This movie is way to positive and CLEAN and you pervs, carnal pigs just aren't used to seeing how things used to be and when decencey was a priority in movies. Why don't ya take a shower and then watch it!
  • "This movie is way to positive and CLEAN and you pervs"

Wrong use of TO. I think you mean to use TOO instead of TO. Spelling has a factor in the use of words. I guess your Bible didn't teach you that did it, sad :(
  • What movies are you talking about? Decency is something that you conservatives love to cry about as you are looking into the world with your rose-colored glasses. If you actually watch movies that have stood the test of time, you will see that they have streams of vile, filthy subjects that are just as terrible as they are now, we are just a little more open and direct about it. Name me one movie that was completely filth-free and I will find something despicable about it. For a movie to be interesting, you have to CONFLICT and Christians don't have interesting and universal problems one can relate to.

Honestly, how old are you? If you say that there used to be a decency in movies and you are 23, you sir(or madame) have not truly experienced what movies were like. If you are looking back at the 1950's for an era of cleanliness in movies, you are only getting a selective cut of the movies released in that time period.
  • Supascoopa
Are you taking the piss. "Oscar Buzz"?!?!?!, it looks like a shitty made for TV movie. I worry about /film sometimes. And who the fuck is Kirk Cameron?
  • Jeff
My guess, SupaScoopa was born post 1990.

    Just throwin that out there.
  • somesister27
    @stoned one

    hahaha. and AMEN.
  • Christopher Marc
All I know about Kirk Cameron is that he forces his religious beliefs on viewers of his material...Everything since Growing Pains has been constant "You're Going to Hell, Save Your Soul" campaign...I'm all for religious freedoms but he goes a little "Pat Robertson" which creeps me out
  • Just Peachy
You know what creeps me out, you!
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @Supascoopa

    Likewise.
  • Zeppo
"Oscar-worthy"? I would guess that's sarcasm if it weren't for the fact that Slashfilm is reporting on this movie for SOME reason. I'm a Christian and I HATE movies made for Christians. In fact, I think you'll find most Christians do. Why not ignore this all together?

And yes, a movie sorta broke me and my (ex) gf up. Her favorite movie was "White Chicks." I later found out she HATED "Memento." It was just all downhill from there.
  • Okay if you say so
Nope you dead wrong, my church and community, friends and family who are christians and some non-christians as well said the movie was AWESOME. So put your foot back in your mouth and speak only for yourself and your narrowmindness. So act like a Christian, don't just tote around telling ppl you are. Be one, like Kirk, he lives it through his life. Not just says, "I'm a chrisitan" but i dont' act like one...lol
  • "Not just says, "I'm a christian" but i dont' act like one... lol"

This is the worst sentence I have ever read in my life. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Please, if you are going to be arguing with us on this comment section spreading your "faith", make sure it conveys your thought so the rest of us English speaking people can understand!
  • rohan
yeah, i'm on the oscar bandwagon as well. this looks AMAZING. people are crazy raving about heath ledger when kirk cameron surely has a lock on the statue for this.

oh wait, jesus f christ guys, take a joke. this is the funniest trailer / has posted since the choke redband!
  • orange cinema
    'feel the heat' lmfao

'marriage isn't fireproof, sometimes you get burned' - that line deserves to be in Team America. i can totally hear trey parker doing the deep voice and that line.
  • So when can we expect the redband trailer for this?
