Ben Affleck Joins Mike Judge’s Extract

Ben Affleck and Clifton Collins Jr (Traffic, Capote) have been cast in Mike Judge’s next live action feature film Extract. Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis and Kristen Wiig have already boarded the project, which has been described as “what it’s like to be the boss when everything seems to be shifting around you.” Bateman stars as a flower extract factory owner who is suffering a bout of bad luck. Everything is going wrong at work and his wife is having an affair with a gigolo.

And no, Affleck is not playing the gigolo. Collins plays a factory worker who loses a body part in a freak accident, and is now looking fo a financial settlement. Affleck will be playing an ambulance-chasing lawyer, who one must assume will be helping Collins’ character with the lawsuit. The project is scheduled to begin production on Monday in Los Angeles.

You probably know Mike Judge as the creator of Beavis and Butthead, King of The Hill and the popular cult work comedy Office Space. Fox basically buried Judges’ second feature film Idiocracy, which now appears to be getting a cult following on DVD/tv.

I think a lot of people love Judge’s work because he creates comedy that is very relatable, but in a second person sense. Everyone has encountered a Beavis. Everyone knows a family like the Hill family. And everyone has a job, and most people have worked in an office at one point in their life. I think Idiocracy might have been too “cartoonish” for some, even though the concepts at the core of the film speaks a lot about the current direction of humanity. But I have to wonder how many people will relate to a factory owner?

    I don't know if anyone else feels this way...the only time I could sit through a Affleck comedy was if it was Dogma or Chasing Amy..

    It's true "Idiocracy" was a great film it's on the level of Smiley Face both underrated comedies. I never recommend direct to DVD flicks but this one was very funny. At the same time a very bleak outlook on American culture.

    Idiocracy is the worst movie in the history of film.

    The level of satire is worse then that of the very people the film is trying to mock.

    I love it when people like Tom has to over-exaggerated to make his point. Wait, I'm on the internet..sorry.

    Idoicracy is not perfect, but the first hour is funny as hell. The second half felt rushed (probably due to Fox's meddling with the editing) but it didn't deserve it's treatment.

    It's another reason to dislike Fox.

    Mike Judge is GOLD as far as I'm concerned.

    King of the HIll is one of my top shows of all time. Plus Beavis and Butthead was amazing, if not brillian. Office Space and Idiocracy proved that his move towards film are extremely worthwhile and if you didnt "get" one of these movies, you're really dumb. Or have bad taste...or you're probably who Judge is making fun of.

    @Tom

    Maybe after "Office Space" I was expecting too much but “Idiocracy” was boring and not really funny, it's not "worst movie in the history of film" just not very funny. But that won't stop me from going see Extract IF it's released in theatres.

    It seems that people on the internets need it spelled out for them when someone is making an extrapolation.
  • Which film is that image from?

    @Jeff

    That is from what I imagine was a terrible film called "Surviving Christmas", that's tony soprano about to pummel him with the shovel and haul him off to the jersey shore.
  • I'm glad to see Affleck making a less *jerkoff* movie return. There for awhile I really didn't care for him...he went WAY wrong somewhere. Right around the time he got in to that JLo ghetto booty. Here's hoping he gets back on track (the Kevin Smith years) and finds his way.

    i actually really liked Idiocracy.

    i actually saw it with my dad the first day it came out cause the only thing we knew about the movie was from the poster that said "mike judge" on it, so we had to watch it.

    but hopefully this turns out great.

    and i just recently got into arrested development, so i have a new appreciation for jason bateman.
