VOTD: A Short Love Story In Stop Motion

A Short Love Story In Stop Motion

The Pitch: This is a segment of Carlos Lascano’s beautiful Stop Motion and 2D animated film A Short Love Story In Stop Motion. Carlos shot the film with a Nikon D70s and Sony HVR V1, captured with a Blackmagic Intensity Card, and edited using Adobe Photoshop, After effects CS3, Final Cut and iStop Motion on an Mac Pro from Apple. Many of the organic textures such as particles, drops, autumn leaves, etc, were carefully filmed over a green background in uncompressed full HD at 1920 x 1080. You can read more about the making of the project on Carlos’ official website. Thanks to Jeff Cannata for making me change my VOTD at the last minute… Damn you!

    My fav VOTD so far. Great choice.
  • Jeff
    Does anyone know what song is playing in the video?

    I gotta say, I'm not super-impressed. I was expecting something better. The character movement was minimal and shaky, and the "story" was flat. I'm not even sure what was happening.

    If you want to see some beautiful stop-motion (with better stories), check out Jamie Caliri's 60-second commercials for United Airlines:

    @Jeff

    Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros.

    Jeff,

    The song is "Hoppípolla" by Sigur Rós. It was in the trailer for Children of Men and used in the film Penelope.

    Just watch the Caliri links I posted. He also did the end credits for A Series of Unfortunate Events, all in stop-motion.

    Here's a look at his process:
