Simon Pegg won’t be appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards after all. This is really a shame, because aside from Brad Pitt, he was my second favorite actor involved with the project. One thing is for sure, he would have made those scenes with Mike Myers a lot more watchable. When the story was first reported by the trades, it was reported that Pegg was “in talks” to join the cast. Usually when this information is leaked to the industry newspapers, it is close to a done deal, but every once in a while this hapens. Tarantino is rushing Bastards into production in October, and Pegg had schedule conflicts.

“Much to our mutual disappointment, I won’t be appearing in QT’s forthcoming Inglorious Bastards due to insurmountable scheduling difficulties. We really tried to make it work but in the end, it just was not possible without severe ramifications elsewhere,” Pegg wrote on his blog. “I’m trying to remain upbeat, as Tom Selleck said ‘Who the hell is Indiana Jones anyway?’”

But there is some good news. Superbad director Greg Mottola has signed on to direct Simon’s next film, Paul. Written and starring Pegg and Nick Frost, the story is a road movie about two British comic book geeks that get into an adventure across America. I’ve also heard that Pegg and Frost will reverse their dynamic, and PEgg will actually be playing the sidekick in this one. Edgar Wright is not involved. Mottola just got done directing Adventureland, which will hit theaters next year. I’m very interested to see what a Nick and Simon comedy will look and feel like without Edgar.

Sad that he isn't going to be in the film.

By the sounds of having a new director is that they want USA to see it more than they would of have with Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the dead.

But having Nick Frost as the lead is strange

That sucks!! He lost my interest in the project down about 20%

OH! When do they start their new film? I live near Times Square and want to see them film........that is if that's what the film is about. It's what I'm getting at from the description.

Maybe Tarantino should slow down. Originally, he wanted Tim Roth for that role, but he scheduling conflicts, and now Pegg has scheduling conflicts too. If Tarantino just delayed things for a while, maybe then he'd get the cast he wants.
  • That's a little disappointing, but I think with the duo switching roles for their upcoming project, that will be a pleasant surprise. And all due respect to Pegg and Selleck, we all know Indiana Jones was better with Harrison Ford.

    John,

Delayed even more? This project has been in the works for a while now. If he waits any longer, he could end up losing some of the other guys he has secured already.

Shit or get off the pot. It's the way it goes.

I suppose it makes sense to have a U.S director as it set in the U.S and appears to be aimed at American audiences but I fear the film may not fare so well with the Brits. Its a risky move making Nick Frost a lead, personally, I would have made him a lead in a Brit film then release him upon a U.S audience. Glad Peggs not in IB as the cast so far, bar Pitt, sounds crap.

Why is everybody so hyped about this movie?

    Great question YoungZe.

There goes my interest for this movie.

I'm hyped about this movie becaus eI still believe that QT knows how to deliver a fun and interesting film as well as anyone. When the concept is a WW2 film, it just gets me that much more excited. While Death Proof was a disappointment overall, I loved the preformance Tarantino got from Russell and some of the ideas and love involved. The problem with Death Proof is that it was stucjk in the "grindhouse" idea and hamstrung the film into being a duplicate instead of a simple homage to the genre.

I point to the short sequence in Kill Bill that has The Bride flying to Tokyo and driving her motorcycle through the neon. It seems pretty innocuous, but that small bit of film delivers a "cool" that most directors don't have a pulse for. If you bring that "cool" to a scene involving nazi tanks, there is a lot of excitement for what we might see.

Assuming Tarantino can get back to making a fully realized film without getting stuck in conventions or pretensions, Inglorious Bastards promises to be more fun than we often get at the movies.

Personally, I think Pitt is going to be great in a Tarantino film, but I've got a lot of reservations regarding all of the other choices. It makes me wonder what this film is going for. I just hope that the film has a lot of balls and creative ideas.

  • orange cinema

  • Captain Awesome
    TheMarquis,

Yeah, slow news day today it seems.
  • Goobity
A small update on Inglorious Bastards is worth 20 on Transmorphers, Twilight, or Hollywood Re-make du jour.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Why, Simon, why!?!??!

It would have beeen soooooooooooo cool. Simon Pegg is one of the greatest actors in the UK. Tarantino should have used him... It would have been perfect. Like a dream come true. Two super-powers joining forces. Well, at least we still have Pitt.

Now I hear Steven Wright (the weird comedian who played the radio voice in Reservoir Dogs and did something in the Coffee and Cigarettes) has a role. Strange. But jinda cool too.

    @ z

Where'd you hear the Steven Wright thing?
