Madagascar 3 and Kung Fu Panda 2

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg says that the computer animation studio is in talks for a Kung Fu Panda sequel, and  plans to have at least one more Madagascar film, if not more. Katzenberg told reporters on Wednesday that they are currently having conversations about a possible Kung Fu Panda 2, and to expect an announcement in the next 30 to 60 days.

Panda was one of the last DreamWorks Animated films that will be released in 2D, but the studio did some 3D tests with sequences from the film in preparation of the company’s three dimensional future. Katzenberg told /Film a couple weeks back that directors John Stevenson and Mark Osbourne were so impressed with the tests, that they had very early discussions about the possibility of re-releasing the film in 3D. But who knows if that would still be a possibility with the release of a 3D sequel.

Katzenberg also said that Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will probably spawn a sequel: “There is at least one more chapter. We ultimately want to see the characters make it back to New York.” But does anyone really care about a third Madagascar film? While I certainly understand the New York return story being a neat third act of the series, I’d much rather see a spin-off following the adventures of the penguins.

Kung Fu Panda was more a attention to detail film that a story for me, so if they keep the detail and inculde a better story to see.

Madagascar was alright as a story but the penguins saved it when they had to do somthing in the film to change or futhur the plot.

I agree that they should have at least a tv show about them and then maybe a feature film.

Ugh and yet we get a comic book as a sequel for The I
Incredibles. I know these are different studios, im just saying this gets me mad.

Oh and I didn't know they were going totally 3D, can someone tell me if this is a good thing or bad thing.
  • jack
    bad!!!!!!!!!!!

Dreamworks needs to be "smart" about a sequel to KFP. It was a great film and it strayed from what they did before. Both in design and story wise.

I hope they turn it into the over-blended shit, like they did with Shrek.
  • carla_britt
Sooo, i really need to watch KFP by now- i must be the only soul out there who hasnt!

and as for Madasgascar well its was an ok movie for me it had its moments yes but i dont know something was missing!
But the pinguins did save it!

but i kind of didnt like them in the 2nd trailer, it looked over worked and like they did it b4 and had no ideas for a second one! disapointed!

    ladies and gentlemen,
    Dreamworks Animation.
  • Eric
    WAIT WAIT WAIT!!

Did he just spoil the ending for Madagascar 2?
  • Martin
    Katzenberg is so conceited.
    Get with the picture DreamWorks!!
  • The first Kung Fu Panda was certainly lucrative enough to inspire a sequel, even if the second makes half as much as the first that wouldn't be too bad

The difference between Dreamworks and Pixar, Pixar keeps coming up with new and imaginative stories and Dreamworks just finds the one or two that sort of worked and milks them dry. Well at least that was true, Pixar is leaning more towards the sequel side, but we'll see what happens.

The Penguin spin-off would be just about the funniest thing they could do with Madagascar. It really doesn't need any more movies, not even then sequel. Kung Fu panda doesn't really feel like it has another story to tell either.

"But does anyone really care about a third Madagascar film?"

Did anyone even care about the 2nd? I don't think it was really worth reporting as news.
  • adam
excluding kung fu panda (since i haven't seen it), madagascar is the only watchable movie that dreamworks animation has made. i would definitely welcome a third madagascar movie. as long as they don't go overboard and announce 50 sequels like they have with shrek, then i don't see anything wrong with it. and no, the penguins would not work in a feature length film. they couldn't even hold up in the short film that was on the dvd.
  • kristen
I agree. I wan't alex to have a kid badly. He looked soooooooooo cute as a cub! OMG OMG OMG!
  • J Productions
They wont be doing a spin-off movie with the penguins since Nickelodeon picked up an entire series based off them to air late 2008 or early 2009.
  • Joe
When Madagascar 2 bombs, any potential sequels will hit the can.

    I can't see it breaking 100m domestic.
  • kristen
but it didn't bomb. Most people actually liked it Joe.

"Pixar keeps coming up with new and imaginative stories"

What? You mean no one ever did talking rats, fish, bugs, toasters, and cars? Last time I checked Walt Disney and Tex Avery were responsible for some of these so-called imaginative ideas?

btw, Nick Park did better 'talking cars' than Pixar.

dud Captain Awesome word life your so right dud DreamWorks is my favored film industry now everyone’s got there own opinion but mine is kung fu panda 2 bro that’s a defiant yes wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow and then maybe kung fu panda 3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10

i have a good idea:- Kung Fu Panda 2: the rath of Tai Yang

Tai Lung has a twin brother an he was really the one who should have been in jail but he doesn't like his own ame so blamed it on Tai Lung. When he finds out about what happened to his brother he is happy and decides to take the dragon scroll only to find that po has already got it so he takes it out on the furious five one by one. To weak to battle the furious five have to reliy on po and shifu to help them and with someone making a dramatic comeback what will it be a happy ending or a shocking twist of fate?
