Fan Created Dark Knight Sequel Movie Poster

/Film readers Max B and David B have sent over this fan made poster for a possible sequel to The Dark Knight. Seems like the artist, like most everyone I have talked to, wants The Riddler to attack Gotham City in the next film. But yes, it is just a fan creation (If the question mark didn’t give it away). But the rest of the poster is well done. I doubt they would use the title The Dark Knight Returns unless it was an adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel. I have heard that the next film might employ the cape crusader’s on screen nickname “The Batman” in the title. “The Return of The Batman” anyone? Click on the image below to enlarge.

    Why so ponderous?
  • NINJARTIST
Hell yes! Glad others agree that The Riddler would make for a perfect villain.

Although THE DARK KNIGHT clearly showed the detective aspect of Bruce's repertoire, a story with The Riddler could weave a mystery unlike anything superheroes have encountered on the big screen.

Look at Nolan's film history (FOLLOWING, MEMENTO, INSOMNIA) and you'll understand why The Riddler is a perfect choice.
  • Ha, excellent concept and execution. Although the writing on the hand might be a bit much... I think the implication is clear enough from the giant question mark.

No need to write, "Seriously, I'm talking about the Riddler. The Riddler should be the villain in the next Batman film. So I drew a huge question mark. Get it?" across the top or anything.
  • John
Batman is suppose to be the world greatest detective so Riddler would be fitting for Batman 3. Would love some cat and mouse games.

Great Posters. High Quality. I swear fan made stuff like sometimes seems better then Hollywood production.

Also I think the next movie title should be "The Caped Crusader", because while dealing with the Riddler, and now an actively pursued vigilante Batman comes to terms that this is his life now. Its one giant Crusade rid the world of evil. But, he has to deal with the loses and disadvantages that comes with it.
  • Tendrillar
They'd have to go far beyond the establish Riddler character from the comics. Otherwise it seems it would just be a rehash of the Joker. I personally feel that there's still more to be told with Two-Face. Harvey is dead, but not Two-Face.
  • Eric
Does that guy WORK for WB because he should
  • Bill
    What's with the Zodiac ciphers?
  • Tyler
I like how Vicki Vale wrote the article on Harvey Dent (can't read the headline because of giant ?). Nice throw back.
  • TheDaftPunk
I see the man with the overly intricate name has bad taste. I agree with Tendrillar, Harvey may be dead, but not Two-Face - more needs to be told. I would like to see The Riddler as the next Batman villain though.
  • Bill
without reading the article i just assumed that wb officially announced the sequel. man that poster is well made.
  • Zaphoid
I like the addition of the zodiac cipher. If the riddler is the next villain they should portray him in a similar way to David Fincher's Seven and Zodiac.
  • They should just make the riddler like Jigsaw from the saw movies....make batman rated r.....
  • Pedro
Weak? It's amazing, especially for fan-art. I agree with Bill. The person clearly has the right stuff as a graphic designer.

There's a rule that you should never acknowledge what people who name themselves "J- Airy _ ButL_Er" have to say. I think it was in the bible somewhere.
  • Steelo
derivative yet clever at the same time. this person gets dap
  • Hendo
just a FYI in response to the "Dark Knight Returns" doubts... they already said long ago that they want the third movie title to be "Shadow of the Bat" (this was way back around when they were discussing their choice of a title [for TDK] without "Batman" in it)
  • jomama
as for the title... i hope they call it "shadow of the bat."
  • Graham
the villain should be either the reaper or the riddler
  • Peter, here's a story as to why Two-Face won't appear in TDK's sequel according to the author of the novelisation: http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00017644.html
  • Cody
The Riddler is by far my favorite villain next to the Joker. It would be incredible to see him in the next movie.
My only concern is how they would avoid continuing the battle between Joker and Batman. They pretty much ended it saying that Batman and Joker would battle like they had forever.
A sequel would be sweet but it would have to be well thought out on how to continue from where they left off (which I am sure it would be). Not to mention, how they would introduce The Riddler in the first place (origin Story or just throw him in from the beginning like Joker in TDK?)
  • DrewD408
I think it should be clayface. It will be just as good as sandman in Spider-Man 3. Joke. I hope you see the sarcasm. Riddler is the way to go. That poster is great! It has me all excited to go see TDK again
  • Jeff
It's a well done poster but the artist is just copying the ad campaign from The Dark Knight. I mean, would we really have a second psychotic villain defacing everything in the exact same way the Joker did?
  • Wintermuted
Mr. Reis, anyone?(in case anyone else has yet to mention this)
  • dda
    Why So Mysterious?
  • Woods09
that poster is incredible i dont think any1 cna make a better teaser poster than that
  • The Jezzus
    Hmmmm....

I would think that the Riddler would be a little bit cleaner and more precise than this. The poster looks like someone watched The Dark Knight and really liked Ledgers Portrayal of the Joker and wanted to copy him.

Does The Riddler like Saw movies?

Just seems like the artists are clinging to the "Joker" emo motif from The Dark Knight. Plus there is no mystery to be solved from looking at the poster. It just looks more like a Joker image to me.

Still looks good though, but I think they would want to change it up a bit for the next Batman movie and not cling to the Joker's motif of a criminal.
  • You used my tip!!! Well chuffed!!

And yeah it should be the Riddler as some kind of a serial killer but difficult under pg13 conditions. Maybe framing Batman for countless murders? That would be a departure from the last which is the biggest hurdle that must be passed.
  • Ricky
that has to be one of the coolest fan made posters around.
  • Eric Smith
I like it. It's an interesting concept. It does seem to channel the teaser for "The Dark Knight," however. The one where it's a painted eyes above a red Bat symbol on a brick wall. This one does really pique my interest. It would be nice if Warner Bros. ran with something like this. My only quibble is the hand. I don't ever remember The Riddler having letters on his fingers. When I saw that, it reminded me of "The Blues Brothers" because that's what Elwood and Jake did. It could have the hand, but show more of the wrist, with a green suit sleeve.
  • No, I don`t want riddler appears in the Christopher`s serial movies.

Because his Batmans are totally different from Tim Burton`s and Joe Schumach`s.

Acturally, I want to see Robin`s Death by other director`s Batman movies.
  • Bob
pretty cool. kudos to whoever made that poster even though i see this as more of 2012 release date for some reason
  • jimbo stewart
Tough call with the bad guy...

I still cannot fucking believe Batman didn't get dosed with fear gas and have to fight the Joker... There was so much opportunity to make him truly horrifying and they bunted.

I digress, maybe someone from the 80's...
  • Steelo
If It's gonna be "Shadow of the Bat" then I get where this is going some a lready. That's pretty tight.
  • minus000
The riddler would be a poor choice. Too similar to the joker.

Two-face is the obvious choice, provided hes actually not dead, WHICH HE BETTER NOT BE.

For supplimentary villains, why not bring it back full circle with a little Ras Al Ghul Fear. Talia as a love interest?
  • Superfunk
It's just a copy of the Joker viral stuff, the scraggly writing and everything. It looks cool, but it's a copy of the Joker. They would have to come up with a more original style for the Riddler. T
  • Captain Awesome
    Too Joker-ish.
  • Yevacles
A bit to Jokerish but other than that great concept and execution, I love using the paper to reference things from TDK, I hope they do something like that with the 3rd movie. Instead of the joker cut out font I would have the questions written in neat red or black ink and instead of the picture maybe have a list of names with some crossed off as to the identity of the Batman. Though, maybe they could do a Riddler as disciple of the Joker kind of thing, thereby continuing, indirectly, Joker's fight with the Batman and introducing the Riddler?
  • maremagnum
Zaphoid read my mind. I was also thinking that, with the Riddler, the next sequel could work as a cat and mouse game a la Se7en.
  • StarBlazer101
whoa, that's sick with it. I would buy it if they put in eBay.
  • Gordo
I don't know why everyone is so sure that Riddler is the best villain for a sequel. I feel like they would have to do a lot of work on the character to get the mainstream audience to see the differences between him and Joker.
I think it would make sense to have someone, a corrupt cop, the mob, or an angry citizen over the framed Batman murders, hire Deadshot to assassinate Batman. Deadshot couldn't have a whole movie to himself, but if the mob hired him the war between Batman and the mob could make a movie possibly?
  • Captain Awesome
    Gordo,

Yeah I know. People need to let it go. Goyer and the rest of the team said that if a third film happens. They won't be using a villian that's been used in any of the other films before BB.
  • krackajap
I really don't understand how everyone keeps saying that the Riddler is too similar to Joker. They are really nothing alike except a laugh or two here and there.
  • Kip
The riddler doesn't have to wear green spandex. He could just be Hugo Weaving all fucked up in the head. Then to keep the whole "were gonna go inside and find a villain you forgot about" thing going, have the riddler working for him. Then Two Face awakes from his coma in a hospital in metroplis (!) under the name John Doe and makes his way back to Gotham to finish what he began and he is forced to decide which side (get it side) he's really on. Plus if they did all that, they would have to make that poster and then I could buy it and put it on my way next to my I believe in Harvey Dent poster.
  • charles
    that's nice.
  • Looks awesome!
  • Captain Awesome
    krackajap,

The similarities come from both of them being instigators and Batman having to work with the stuff they do set up for him. My problem is I don't want some Se7en-like villian coming to the scene. It's going to feel very flat, especially in Batman's world.

I just don't feel it at all. I did like that Nolan touched upon some of Batman's detective background, like when he did that bullet reconstruction sequence to figure out how or what shot it.
  • BATGIRL
    i love it.
but i think it's a little too much like the stuff they did for the dark knight.

i like the idea of the riddler, as long as it's made different enough from the joker.
  • Goobity
Since the next film won't be out for a few years, it might be interesting for the Nolan brothers to create a new Bat-nemesis. How cool would it be for a DC Comics story penned / overseen by these two over the next few years to lead into the next film? Just a thought.
  • StarBlazer101
They should put Deathstroke on the third Batman film. Us REAL Batman fans know exactly why he would fit perfectly in a third Batman film based on the conclusion in The Dark Knight.
  • Honestly, I'm not sure about the Riddler. Although I'm a big fan of old Eddie in the comics, I just think that going from The Joker to The Riddler may be a bit much for a sequel. I just don't know if it could work. First movie had a "let's destroy Gotham" plot by Scarecrow and Ra's. Second movie has a "let's create anarchy and fear" by the Joker. Riddler would have to be along the serial killer lines and it falls right into the fear aspect again. Granted, the Riddler would be PERFECT for a start to finish detective story, but I don't know. Clayface is too supernatural for a franchise that needs to stick to reality. Penguin is too cheesy for, yet again, a reality based series. However, I have ABSOLUTE faith that Team Nolan can take any character and turn them into gold with the right actor.

I would like to see Batman's love interest be Selina Kyle, though.
  • Its good but its kinda similar to the joker
