The Incredibles 1.5 Comes to Comic Books

For me, The Incredibles is the most worthy Pixar film deserving of the sequel treatment. But for one reason or another, Pixar would rather make Cars 2 (boo) and another Toy Story film (which to be fair, could be good… but seems unnecessary) . Instead, The Incredibles sequel (which is being referred to by writer Mark Waid as “Incredibles 1.5″) is being wasted as a comic book series, which will begin to hit comic book store shelves in April. Waid reveals to MTV that the story will take place shortly after the events of the original Brad Bird film, and the first four-issue arc will tell the story of Mr. Incredible, whose powers are begining to fade. Basically, he’s getting older, and he doesn’t want to tell his family or go to the doctor.

Six issues have been written, Darwyn Cooke is doing the cover art, but no artist has been hired yet for the actual inside art. Apparently the plan is to launch other Pixar franchises as monthly comic book series. Toy Story is next, with eventual plans to have six different titles released per month. I’m guessing the line-up will be: The Incredibles, Toy Story, Monster’s Inc, WALL-E, Finding Nemo and Cars As much as I’m actually looking forward to these comics, I’d disappointed that Disney won’t take The Incredibles to the big screen one more time. The storyline in the comic book seems perfect for a sequel. It also seems like they are attracting big name comic talent to provide the art for the books. I’d much rather see some of the in house Pixar arts provide something more unique, rather than the same old comic book style art.

Ugh Cars 2. But don't knock Toy Story! Man, as awesome as it was seeing the original, the second one topped it. I've been waiting for Toy Story 3 for years. I like all the Pixar movies, but Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story movies are among my favorite movies of all time, even counting live action

I will never understand what people love so much about Pixar Movies. I dislike all of them and The Incredibles is by far the worst one.

The Incredibles was definitely the best pixar film so that makes at least two of us.

what? Pixar said they would only do sequals if they had good ideas, and an aging mr. incredible sounds PERFECT!!!

i would love to watch that.

but i'll be reading the comic for sure if it's good.

Cars has been the only pixar movie where I went out of my way to not see. So we need a sequal? John Carter of Mars now pixar, do you understand me? now!

Mark Waid is one of the best comic writers working today.

An aging Mr. Incredible is a great idea. Check out Mark Waid's work in the graphic novel Kingdom Come, dealing with an aging Justice League.

The Incredibles is one of those movies that once I start it, I have to finish it. It's a classic. Everyone in my family loves it, and we have been waiting patiently for several years in anticipation of a new chapter.
Cars was just Doc Hollywood with Cars instead of actors. Awful. Too bad mid-westerners and rednecks everywhere love Larry the Cable Guy.
    Dammit Pixar, make Incredibles 2.

Cars 2 - HORRIBLE idea, Incredibles 2 - AMAZING idea! That's all i have to say.
  • Jack-Jack Lover =)
ok there gonna make a cars 2? wow cars 1 was stupid!!!!!!

the incredibles rock i wanna slap pixar
  • It sounds like Pixar is talking out of it's back side when they say they will only do sequels if the story demands it. The whole concept of 'Cars' is cringingly bad and who needs a 3rd installment of 'Toy Story'? They're obviously only doing sequels for movies that they are themselves fanboys of or see as their "babies". The Incredibles is the strongest story and frankly best movie they have ever produced, so why no sequel? If they wait too long sooner or later one of the voice actors won't be available.

Yeah, because if there's one thing you can't do it's recast a voice-over role in a cartoon.
