ABC is developing a small screen adaptation of John Updike’s The Witches of Eastwick. You might remember that George Miller brought the book to the big screen in 1987, with Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer. Warner Bros TV has been trying to bring the franchise to the small screen for almost two decades. The book has also been adapted for the stage. Written by Maggie Friedman (Dawson’s Creek, Jack and Bobby) , the new supernatural tv series will apparently be a variation of the 1987 film. The story will focus on three witches who are seduced by a devil-like character, who teaches them how to further their abilities. The idea of a witch-focused television series just makes me think of Charmed, which I pretty much hated with a passion. I don’t care how hot any of the women on that show are, the show was unwatchable. [variety]

Seth Green and Breckin Meyer are in talks to join the cast of Heroes for multi-episode story arcs. The duo will play play Atlanta-based comic book geeks who advise one of the heroes. How meta. [EW]

CBS has teamed with Criminal Minds executive producer Ed Bernero to develop a new version of Hawaii Five-O. The new series will focus of Chris McGarrett, a Hawaiian cop and son of Steve McGarrett, a character played in the original series by Jack Lord. The show will be updated (as will the clasic opening theme song) but Bernero insists that it won’t be a reinvention. [THR]

  • A show about witches? As long as it has that snide talking cat from Sabrina, I'll be there.
  • Why couldn't they have picked up the FIVE-O reboot from a few years back with Gary Busey and Russell Wong?
  • Adam B.
no offense to Seth Green, but I really don't want him in Heroes.
they're sorely mistaken if that's what they think will make Season 3 better than Season 2.

Brekin Meyer is like King Midas, only replace gold with shit.
  • Charmed was awesome, WTF are you talking about? The show did go downhill after Shannon Doherty got killed off.

How can they do Hawaii Five-O without the same theme music?!?

And yep, I miss Charmed too... although I watched only about 3 episodes, ha, ha. I just saw part of one the other day and although they're SUPPOSED to be in San Francisco, the Los Angeles city skyline was so obviously not S.F. It's as if they knew they were low-budget and didn't care.

And that's what I miss. I also miss Doherty on the all new Scare Tactics.

Witches of Eastwick TV series, hm, could be interesting, I'd give a try. I wasn't a Charmed fan...I tried watching it, but it was too annoying.

Seth and Breckin on Heroes I don't know how I feel about that. I think they're both hilarious and I'm a big fan, but it seems to be that they would be out of place on Heroes. We don't realy need comic book geeks, do we? Hiro's references in season 1 were all we needed.

Hawaii Five-O ...never did liked the show.

How much you all wanna bet that there aren't gonna be any (or, like, one) Asians/Pac. Islr's on the new Hawaii 5-0?

Asian/Pacific-Islanders only constitue 85% of the pop. over there for chrissakes!

GUY WHO WROTE THE BOOK, WITCHES OF EASTWICK IS CURRENTLY WRAPPING UP ITS SEQUEL, THE WIDOWS OF EASTWICK. HOPE THE MAKE THE FILM.
  • J.D.
Dragon's got a point. And it's applicable to Charmed as well. Hello? It's in San Francisco -- the population is 1/3 Asian! Maybe I didn't see enough episodes, but I don't remember too many Asian characters.

I remember thinking this a few years back when a show about female lawyers in S.F. came out -- there were NO Asians! So ridiculous.
    ...
I think I found it: It was called "Girl's Club." And it lasted for a few episodes.
  • The new Hawaii 5-0 sounds about as awesome as the new Knight Rider.

Are there really no original ideas or fresh story lines available to these network people? Are they trying to re-create old television shows to urge those of us born after cancellations to give a damn about what they might have had a passion for? I will not be watching any of these. Needless to say, they will flop. Just look at the new 90210..Much anticipated and was a complete letdown. I'm just not on board with the current branding of 'old shows for new generations' plot. But, that is just my take on the lack of creativity. Charmed sucked-period- but I do think I would enjoy the Witches of Eastwick. Loved the movie.
