I've seen a lot of complaining about this movie.

1) This film DOES NOT even need to take place in the "same universe" as TOS in order to be strictly "canonical." That precedent was firmly settled by the "bouncing Worf(s)" episode in TNG. Not to mention the very existence of Q or the "Temporal Cold War" established by ST: Enterprise

2) Regenerating HAIR is not nearly so difficult a problem as designing a pill that can grow a kidney, so the "bald Scotty" question is just flat out whining.

3) After enjoying and debating this same story arc for *40 years*, you want to alienate a brand new fan base? Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations is meant to be an optimistic axiom. Remakes happen all the time in this industry...some favorable, some not. The fact that this project is being pursued largely with the blessing of the original cast members, by an experienced screenwriter/producer/novelist who has equally good ties to the Pocket Books line, tells me that there is no one better qualified to handle this material.

I've been enjoying the "real" Star Trek at least since I was knee high to David Carradine...and I intend to enjoy this one with fresh eyes as well

Okay, folks, let's get some things straight here.

1) Star Trek is HUGE. And for those of you who dismiss it as boring, I'm wondering if all you've ever seen was The Next Generation and/or the very first Star Trek movie. Star Trek was from the "Twilight Zone" era of sci fi; it was mostly a vehicle to deliver commentary on current society without having the network try to screw it over so it didn't say anything offensive. It also featured the first interracial kiss on television, though that was one thing that the censors didn't budge on and it was sorta/kinda hidden by the camera angle.

2) Who GIVES a flying f**k whether or not the characters from today EXACTLY match the original interpretations of the characters? Face it, Nimoy and Shatner were wooden actors, and those were the only good roles they ever really played. (One exception: Shatner in Twilight Zone was pretty good.) For your information, Chekov is being played by one of the best young actors in Hollywood today. To say that no one new can look or act different from the old characters is like saying that Heath sucked because he wasn't Jack Nicholson.

3) Whoever said that this is going to be Phantom Menace 2 is dead wrong. If it sucks, it'll be like any failed attempt to revive a franchise. If it's good, it's going to be Batman Begins 2. My money is on the latter.

In conclusion, don't pass this movie off just because you're not a Trekkie. Pay attention, maybe read some reviews when it comes out and maybe- just maybe- go see the film for yourself. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I really don't think simon pegg was a good choice for scotty. Being scottish myself i was hoping for James Mcavoy. At least then he can use his own accent! (ish, as scotty was an aberdonian and Mcavoy isn't) :)

Classic Karl Urban 'Julius Caesar' facial expression, I love it.

I kind of pity all the new 'epic' big blockbuster films coming out now, because they're still being overshadowed by the bat.

Yeah, of course there are going to be some changes. Jeeze I HOPE there are gonna be changes. Don't get me wrong, I really like the show but this isn't about rehashing, it's about remaking

And seriously, are kidding me? You're complaning about friggin hair?

Its still going to be a tough sell to people who think of Trek as nerdy and of no interest to them.
The marketing better be better than these posters if they are going to bring new people into the theater.

I consider myself a moderate Star Trek fan, I don't like the fact that they're "reimagining" it, but I'm still curious. The best thing about this project is JJ Abrams' involvement, which means this will turn out *at least* a decent movie. And I'm simply curious about the end result.

I have no problem with Star Trek fans complaining about it - I understand them. But some of the haters seem very out of touch with this project, who's doing it, and who exactly is in it. This will be nothing like Phantom Menace, Starship Troopers 3 and so on. This has a talented crew behind it, who worked on Alias, Lost and MI:3. It's not a direct-to-dvd movie and it's not directed by a guy who despite of his immense resources and money has no clue about working with actors (Lucas).

@ Jeeeeeeeeerrrryyy Butler:

The "turd teen actor from like gossip girls" you're referring to is Karl Urban. He was in Lord of the Rings, Bourne Supremacy, Chronicles of Riddick and Doom. He's far from what you're saying. The other actors are all quite solid. But I guess some people just look at the posters and then start complaining without at least bothering to check who they're actually complaining about.

Also, everyone mentioning how Star Trek wasn't that great should watch Deep Space Nine - from the beginning. It was arguably the most mature of the Star Trek series. Star Trek is an immense universe and if you've only seen random episodes from TOS or Next Generation I don't think you actually have a well-formed opinion about the subject.

Okay, when I first saw the poster of Simon Pegg, I thought..."How the hell did they get Sam Neill to do The Hunt for Red October 2?"

Oh.
