Bernie Mac Is Dead at 50

Comedian and actor Bernie Mac, who has starred in films and television shows such as Transformers, Soderbergh’s Ocean’s series, and The Bernie Mac Show has died. CNN reports that Bernie Mac had been hospitalized for more than a week due to a lung infection and that he died early Saturday morning from complications relating to pneumonia. He was 50 years old at the time.

In my own experience, I have always found him to be able to bring levity to whatever project he was involved in. Most recently, I look back quite fondly on his his creepy salesman role in Ocean’s Eleven; that forceful handshake still haunts my dreams, in a hilarious way. That his talent has been taken away from us so soon is as tragic as it is shocking. Rest in peace, Bernie. You will be missed.

Ok, I'm starting to get pissed. People need to stop dying ffs.
Later Bernie, enjoyed you while you were here.
  • Man, this is messed up. He wasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire, his starring roles like Guess Who and Mr. 3000 never clicked as well as they should have, but I always enjoyed what he brought to an ensemble cast. He was able to sneak in a steal a laugh just by the way he looked at you.

This is a shame. He was young and had so many more jokes to tell.
  • Christopher Marc
If you haven't seen his stand-up set from "Kings of Comedy" please take the time to....a great loss in the world of comedy
  • The Addict
This is indeed sad news. However, couldn't the title of the article have been a bit more sensitive? Like "Bernie Mac has passed away" or "Bernie Mac has died?" The phrase "Bernie Mac is dead" sounds a combination of coldness, harshness, and all over tactlessness.
  • Matthew
Sugar coating it won't make it any different.
  • Taking a quotation from him, "can you feel it," yes I can. So sad. What's even worse was that earlier this week when we learned about Morgan Freeman's car crash accident there was a small blurb about Bernie Mac being in the hospital. At the time I thought we were going to lose Freeman and not Mac. Sad how it was flipped. Sad that one had to go.

Every time I get a too firm of a hand shake, I'll think of you Bernie Mac.

Always a shame when someone dies.
I can't say that I will miss his acting though.

Sadly his last film he completed was the Wild Hogs sequel Old Dogs. Not the best actor in the world but he was and always will be one of the funniest comedians

I'm no doctor but I find it really strange that in this age and time people are still dying of pneumonia.

OK, after some googling it seems that the overall death rate is around 5% and the people that die from it are mostly over the age of 70. Which makes this seem even more strange as he was only 50. Famous people always seem to die in weird or improbable situations.

    Rest in peace, Bernie Mac.
  • I am sad. His show, as has been noted, was great fun and he was phenomenal in the Ocean's movies. His stand-up accomplishments go without saying.
  • BFFredo
I was just thinking about him the other day. Shame. Truly a shame.

Gonna go look for his breakdown of the word "Motherf---er" right now on Youtube.

    RIP
  • Joe
Poor guy. Condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

And to "call me", two things:
    A) You're asking guys to call you in a thread devoted to remembering a dead comedian. Nice.
    B) "Hot guys only"? You're on /film, a MOVIE BLOGGING SITE.

  • UnKaL
Holy hell....i do agree with some of you what is going with most of the celebrities passing away before their time. This is perhaps one of the funniest comedians from the Originals. Prayers go out to his family and relatives. RIP Bernie The Mac!!!
  • That's just a mutha*uckin' shame!! How did he get the infection? Musta been a bad one to take him out so quickly, especially considering he could afford top-notch medical care.

    "Bernie Mac Dies at 50"
  • charles
Fuck man!!!!!!!!! Fuck!. That was my dude. I can't believe he died. I was hoping to hear his stand up on Obama's bitch ass for turning his back on him.
  • Anyone stop for three seconds to consider that the title is continued respect for Mr. Carlin? There is nothing unsympathetic about saying someone is dead. It's the truth. We die. Sure, it sucks a little...
  • Such sad news. God Bless You, Bernie. You will be sadly missed and may you be forever remembered for your gift. Thank you for sharing with us.
  • Agirl
I loved Bernie. He was such a great actor/comedian.

RIP Bernie Mac! Way to soon!
  • Mike Z.
"is dead" is a classic news phrase--read the nytimes obituaries, they're always like "blankety blank, king of comedy, is dead." no disrespect, just getting the news across.

rest in peace bernie, prayers to your family.
  • John
Like Carlin says, nobody dies anymore, they just "pass away"...

In honor of Bernie Mac, I'm gonna get some milk n' cooookies...
  • dr_foreverclear
been a fan since officer self hatred.

Bad times, RIP B Mac - thanks for the laughs.
  • Reggie
@ all the people saying the title should've been sugar coated....

Does it really matter? Death is death whether it's one word or another.

I'm pretty shocked to hear the news, I didn't even think he was 50. He had a spirit of a much younger person.

    R.I.P.
  • Goodbye Bernie.
