Is the person at Paramount who liked the footage the same people that liked Voyager and Enterprise which helped sink the franchise into the ground with Brannon Braga and Rick Berman at the helm?
The name Star Trek is not very popular and I imagine most younger people are going to avoid this movie because of the negative buzz over the years.
Trek became….Uncool and it needs something really good to jump start it again.

Excuse me, but Star Trek is popular all over the world, and for good reason. Right now I am working at a hotel in Prague, and I know plenty of people from everywhere who watch Star Trek. Why were you even on here if you’re not a fan of the show?

I am certainly looking forward to the next Star Trek film, but I wonder why they chose to do a prequel rather than doing a continuation of TNG or Deep Space 9. Personally, I kind of liked the idea of seeing Riker with his own command.

I loved TNG. I even loved the TNG-Crew-Movies except Nemesis. With TOS, I had the problem that Kirk had some sort of one-man-show in the series. DS9 became funny from season 3 on. I never liked voyager, though…

Concerning this movie it’s cool to see that there’s no series and so the characters are easy to modify to fit in a new mood. At least I hope it’s enjoyable as that one with Zaphron Chochran.

It would be unusual to have such a high-profile trailer in front of a September release. For the most part September is a dead month for movies. I remember last year waiting to see when the 2nd Cloverfield trialer would hit and many were hoping it would be in front of a Sept. movie but it ended up in front of Beowulf released in Nov.

Anyone know if the viral marketing has started on Trek? Before the date change it look as if it were starting (remember the website where you had to focus 4 monitors with video of the welders working on the ship…if you got the sequence right, a quck shot of the ship’s interior was flashed on a “non-working” monitor).

Have they shot enough footage to cut a trailer for Transformers? I would imagine it’s a teaser trailer, much like the teaser for HP6 in front of TDK (which also had watchmen and t4), so attaching trailers for 2 highly anticipated summer movies isn’t out of the realm of possibility. However, it’s still odd that they would choose this movie. I mean, I plan on seeing it, but I haven’t noticed any hype amongst my the general film community.

Back on topic, can’t wait for star trek. This has been an superb summer, topped off nicely with some hilarious comedies in August, it’s gonna be hard to top.

Next generation updated star trek already. I hope they try something new and have everything be retro, from the costumes, to the cheap fx. I don’t care about graphics like spoiled brats today. My fx had matte lines and I liked it.

Personally, I always like at least something that Abrams (barring rom-coms) brings to the table and I think his ideas on this movie have been slick thus far, placing a deeper realization of the ship. It will be interesting to see if he can balance the mythos that Star Trek lives in (cuz utopias are not easy I hear) with the flawed humanity.
