...thank "god" for Bill Maher!!! lol note the g in god not capitalized...

food for thought:

- religion allows/induces/provokes(I could keep going, but I think u get the point) some wierd stuff: civil violence, niiice...sweeeet

- my initial thoughts concerning religion...eh, while it's conditionally used as somewhat of a wildcard on the global scale as a repellant to some things and a save all/end all to others...it's a double edged sword like none other...think of all that have died in the name of name...while, there is a plethora of technology present in today's world giving us the notion that we're at some sort of rising action to climax in the human civillization play...I'm deeply saddened that we're still unable to set aside fundamental differences and accept what makes us human...or are we still a civillization of "uppity" cro-magnons wildly crushing skulls with stones and bones...except now we have nuclear capabilities, biological hazards (which by the way seems like a gross understatement), guns, lawyers, over-caffeinated cops, medical malpractice 'practice,' religious extremism (and not just islam there mr and mrs christianity)...

- that human kind, in all it's greatest creative splendor can claim to know who created all of this...well let's just call that precisely what it is...bullsh*t!!! no me bashing just yet...I do understand to various degrees why religion would be implemented within a "civillized" society...as somewhat of an umbrella so to speak or an explain-all for everything...but this is getting fukkin religulous!

- oh, and for the whom-so-evers that keep insisting that "god" is everywhere...and "god" is the most powerful all knowing and all everything....where was "god" throughout recorded history...the only things I remember from world history was war, slavery and...wait a minute, I'm having an epiphany...oh yeah, more war and slavery...niiiiice, sweeeeeet!

- which would lead me to one conclusion..."god" only loves certain ppl...those that are...I don't know...uhhh, uhhh...wait a minute...there isn't a "god"!!!...come on people, let's get real with this sh*t here...no one believe in gods anymore...that's like ancient egyptian sh*t, right? (at running the risk of sounding like a numb nuts)...the only thing we believe in is money! that's right...money! everything we do in society today from the womb to the tomb prepares us for Novus Ordo Seclorum...oh, and it's here...oh boy is it here!!!

After reading (most) of these posts, I can clearly see many of you missed the point of what this film is all about:

Though Maher may be something of a "militant athiest"-my words, not his of course-this isn't a film about how much he hates your god(s). It's a film about fanaticism, about how insane it is to have things like government and schools run by people who operate not using knowledge, but biased beliefs. Beliefs that aren't shared by everyone. Beliefs not based on logic, but religious, emotional devotion. That's scary.

If some of you can't see past your own piety, then:

A. I feel almost pity for you.
B. You're obviously not smart enough to get past your piety to look at something objectively.

p.s. Maher, Carlin, Manson = a trinity of win!

For those who are wondering why atheists are attacking religion and religious people:
Have you all forgotten about the outrageously numerous conflicts that have been caused by the difference of opinions about a higher power? \come on people, can anyone name half a dozen wars in the last 3000 years that didnt involve religion?

I think the reason Atheists an Agnostics want to downplay religion as something that needs to go away is for one reason: government. I am a agnostic and I am one that doesn't shit on everyone's religion. If you pull something positive from it, then great. I have no qualms with that. I think it is silly but I will not go out of my way to put it down to a person that tells me this is their faith. I think the part the " non believers" get upset about is the fact that religion wants to tell people in a melting pot society how to live on a day to day basis. The Bible or any other religion for that matter should never have a role on law making decisions in this country. If you believe other wise you don't even understand what it means to be an American. If the religious right would cut the influence on law making then you would see a lot of this attitude disappear. I think we all can agree on that.

I find it funnier and funnier that Aethiests seem to be wrangling themselves into an actual "group" with a belief system, tellings others what not to buy into. But I've been noticing this more and more with the Aetheist crowd. Isn't that exactly what they were originally against?

Not that I'm Christian or of any religious background. I mean I've seen Aetheist clubs formed to protest other organized religions.

I just find that really hilarious...

You know if you think about those who belive in evolution have to belive in some things they cant prove and questions they cant answer such as if we are decends of apes and evolution is survival of the fittest than why is that apes are still around. The very fact that they are looking for the missing link mean they have faith that it is out ther even though thet cant prove it exists

Seriously people, this is just another Maher production. It doesn't deserve this kind of attention. You think that's bad, wait until I fuck all your mothers corpses.

so... a snake could never be inhabited by a spirit and talk, but the human (or animal) eye could invent itself by spontaneously grasping and then becoming reactive to light in a way that sends electric signals to brain mass that produces sight.

The book of Romans says, "professing to be wise, they became fools and worshiped the creature rather than the Creator."

Quite simple, really.

To that person who calls itself captainawesome:

Deuteronomy 5:11
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Psalms 139:20
For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

Doctrine and Covenants 63:61-62
Wherefore, let all men beware how they take my name in their lips—
For behold, verily I say, that many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.

@Rocha
I hope you're holding anti racial and homophobic beliefs just as high as your own, well unless you hold your own beliefs pretty low as is.
Also go to an evangelical church and tell them that religion has absolutely nothing to do with god, hope you only get called a heretic.
And atheism is not a religion, it's a disbelief in god or gods, because I bet that your favorite hobby is NOT to collect stamps.

Imagine this....if some of you actually took to heart other people's beliefs and held them as high in regard as your own.

Also....that doesn't mean you have to compromise your beliefs.

Religion = the word comes from the prefix re(to return, do again, come back to) and the roots legione/ligare(connect, be a part of something bigger, group).

Essentially religion is the way back to finding who you are, coming back to your center, living you essence (or the attempt).

Even atheism is a religion people.

Religion has absolutely nothing to do with God.

Live and let live if at all possible.

Like the great prophet Bob Marley said,

"So much trouble in the world

Bless my eyes this morning
Jah sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly thin's are goin'
Anything can happen.

You see men sailing on their ego trip,
Blast off on their spaceship,
Million miles from reality:
No care for you, no care for me.

So much trouble in the world;
So much trouble in the world.
All you got to do: give a little (give a little),
Give a little (give a little), give a little (give a little)!
One more time, ye-ah! (give a little) Ye-ah! (give a little)
Ye-ah! (give a little) Yeah!

So you think you've found the solution,
But it's just another illusion!
(So before you check out this tide),
Don't leave another cornerstone
Standing there behind, eh-eh-eh-eh!
We've got to face the day;
(Ooh) Ooh-wee, come what may:
We the street people talkin',
Yeah, we the people strugglin'.

Now they sitting on a time bomb; (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
Now I know the time has come: (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
What goes on up is coming on down, (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)
Goes around and comes around. (Bomb-bomb-bomb! Bomb-bomb-bomb!)

So much trouble in the world"

It's disturbing when people put their dogmatic word-of-mouth belief before any rational theory based on scientific evidence. *Shudder*

Still, I would imagine the vast majority of Christians worldwide are better educated & more "of the world" than the fundamentalist minority, who prefer a literal interpretation of a text which has been written retrospectively, revised, recompiled and edited over hundreds of years.
