Yes the WOWCH version is ugly. We’re not talking about who made a prettier shirt. The point is that the shirt in the movie is clearly the same image as the WOWCH shirt from 2005.

Flipping a design, adding a colour and an arm and using a different production method to create a less shiny image doesn’t give whoever actually made the shirt for the movie any right to call it their own idea. The PE shirt is clearly a copy of the idea presented originally by WOWCH.

And yes, WOWCH is trying to get some free publicity from it, but why not? Their product has been ripped off for use in a blockbuster movie and they are getting no credit or money from it. As mr. Horse said, there will be a major company making a version of this shirt in the near future, and I’m certain that it will pop up on college campuses this fall.

So is it fair? fuck no. Will you buy the licensed version of the shark/kitten shirt? Maybe… But you certainly wont be buying it from WOWCH, and that’s the point.

This is the most ridiculous complaints i have ever seen.

If the company was smart they would be trying to cash in rather than turning off fans of the film who could have potentially bought shirts from them.

As is, they’re just taking advantage of Pineapple’s high-profile (I’d never heard of WOWCH before this post, anyway) and Hunter fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Does he or a friend own the company? He’s awfully defensive in the comments.

Finally, $25 for a shirt is RIDICULOUS. Especially since you know that’ll fall apart after one wash cycle.

Maxt at WOWCH has emailed Slashfilm to say….

“yeah we talked to some copyright lawyers—– they said the problem is that the movie doesnt seem to be directly profiting from the image so a lawsuit could just turn into a case of intellectual property which is hard to work with. they said it would be risky and expensive to try anything legally except for maybe an angry letter. So I figured why get bummed out in court when I can have fun barnstormin’ on the internet.”
