Death Race and Crank star Jason Statham wants to be in a big screen reboot of the popular Marvel character Daredevil. But Statham doesn’t want to play the baddie Bullseye, he wants to take over as the blind man behind the red mask - Daredevil, who was played by Ben Affleck in Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 film. Frank Miller, who is credited for adding new depths to the comic book series in the 1970’s, has also given his approval: “I think he should be Daredevil too,” Miller told the LATimes.

So now that Marvel has their own production company, how about the Daredevil movie that should have happened? Hire Statham and a good director who will take the material seriously. But honestly, I’d much rather see the comic book series as primetime television series (possibly on HBO/showtime). I think Matt Murdock’s court cases would work great as a small screen aside to the red devil’s fight with the mob.

  • I like the idea of taking the world of Daredevil and spinning it off into a cable take on it, but I think we all know it won't happen: there's too much money to be had in tentpole releases for them to shift to a basic cable structure (And one that wouldn't benefit Marvel considering the lack of advertising dollars).

I'd love to see a world wherein major franchises saw the benefits of high-quality television series to boost their brand and as a result their overall impact on the entertainment industry, but methinks the almighty dollars is more what they have in mind.

I think they should stick to what comic book movies have been doing lately, by hiring an amazing actor.
  • I actually enjoyed the Daredevil movie, for the most part, but I would be willing to see if they could do this in a legitimate way (I don't think Statham can do the role justice, though -- has he ever done an American accent?).
  • jimbo stewart
Statham is wrong for Murdock. His acting is too flat and... Murdock is a tad on the sardonic side.

Guy Pearce would be a great choice but he might be a bit too old now.

I LOVE the idea of turning Daredevil into a gritty HBO show.
  • Ghost
There's no way I could see that working and not laugh. I mean like someone mentioned his acting isn't right for it. There's no way it would be believable as him as a lawyer. Much like in the Bank Job seeing him as a married man was just weird.
  • Alex
The other issue is that Statham just doesn't do American accents. Or can't.
  • This rebooting craze is getting old. What's wrong with a sequel? I would love to see Statham as Daredevil, though. Ramp up the 'daredevil' attitude, which he pulls off nicely. You don't need special effects for this guy. :)

I have a hard time sing Statham in a RED WIG!!! Now I can see him has the Kingpin if he bulked up some more.
  • Brian from OR
I met Seeing him in a RED WIG!!!
  • Pauly D
blimey! i can't see no more! but i got me some radar powers, i do!
    (daredevil as chimney sweep)
  • joshi38
Are we not going to think about the accent? Statham once did an American accent in "The One" and... well I cringed, and I'm British. For him to pull off Murock he's going to need lessons in a decent New York accent... oh and acting lessons. He seems to have fallen into a "british tough guy" niche and not come out.
  • erik
Wow, I love the idea of making this a cable show rather than a movie. Or maybe even just a mini-series could be great.
  • Toaster27
Psh... Gritty HBO series! Man, everyone knows Showtime has the good shows now
  • commoncents
This just means it will suck even harder.
  • september11th
who cares enough about daredevil for them to justify redoing it 5 years later?
people at least know the hulk well enough, but that ended up being a waste. and jason statham? pftt. there goes the chance for a great actor. i cant think of a single movie where ive taken him seriously, and now he will be a blind superhero in red spandex who got sonar vision from some radioactive accident. damnit people, these comic book stories are not good, its always the same. they need to cut this shit out. how did these movies get so popular? i doubt 95% of the audience ever read the comics.

Why the reboots? Already?! I liked the first movie. Got a small spot in my heart for Ben since I first saw Good Will Hunting. But come on, there are so many other movies that need to be made before the reboot the "Handi-Abled" Super Hero. Give me the Green Lantern and a Cable movie first, then make whatever you want Hollywood. Can we not get a representative out there?!
  • Heftybag
Staham would've made a bad ass gambit
  • Thankyoufor
haha jason statham needs to stick to guy ritchie movies
hes good in thse (though revovler was pretty mediocre)
  • Captain Awesome
Jason Statham - The Man Who Never Says No
  • Brian B.
Frank Miller also (supposedly) approved of an Aronofsky Batman in which Batman was a homeless dude and Alfred would be known as Big Al who was a mechanic.
  • Happy_Evil_Dude
Why is the 1st Daredevil movie considered such a fail? It made about 100 million dollars more than its budget and most people who didn't like it loved the director's cut. You can change the actor without having to "reboot" the story, look at James Bond, pre-Nolan Batman, Superman, etc... as for Jason as Daredevil? I don't really see it, I have no idea what the dude looks like with longer hair.
  • YoungZe
I remember back then people spread the rumour that Guy Pearce was suppose to play Dare Devil ... good times.
  • YoungZe
Oh and no Statham is not a good choice.
  • orange cinema
jesus christ an HBO/SHO daredevil is an AMAZING idea! now that's a new take on the comic book adaptation. the only negative i could see, would be how long we could keep the series running? cuz i know it'd be one we would want around for awhile.
  • Chris
    Bullseye! Bullseye!

At least he'd be able to fight.

HBO series sounds pretty cool, actually....
  • LukeG37
Pete you do realize I gave you the idea of a Daredevil TV series..
  • Vobe
    Statham would be perfect
  • john
this guy sucks as an actor, as an action hero and he's bald!
  • Captain Awesome
    john,

Hey now. He is atleast sporting the "two-car garage" so he's not really bald. Did people forget Bruce Willis from Die Hard? Willis was the guy to make patterned baldness and slender builds cool for the action genre!

Not that I'm a Statham fan (Loved you in those Ritchie films and that 5 second part in Collateral).
  • Matt
    @Jimbo Stewart

People thought that Robert Downey Jr. would be to old for the role of Tony Stark and he turned out to be the best part of Iron Man.

That being said, I wouldn't mind Statham as Daredevil. I think he's made some shitty career moves (In the Name of the King, Crank, the Transporter 2) but this would be a step forward for him.

On a side note: I find it hilarious how when Iron Man came out, media outlets started talking about how Marvel is getting into B-List territory. I'm sorry but Iron Man is A-List. Fucking Ghost Rider is B-List. Elektra is C-List for christ sakes! But since their movies came out first then Iron Man HAS to be B-List!
  • Project Thunder
I could see him work as Bullseye, but not as Daredevil.
  • Captain Molotov
I'd love another Daredevil movie. I didn't even think the first one was that bad; Id like to see the director's cut. Daredevil, Statham might be able to pull off. But Matthew Murdoch? Hell no. I will never buy this guy as a lawyer in a milliion years. Sorry. Move along.
  • No this is a big mistake the voice is going to reuin it all just make another sequel with ben affleck god dammit
  • No this is a big mistake jasons voice is going to ruien it all just have another sequel with ben affleck or get a diffrent guy god dammit
  • Mike
Who knows? Statham might work. Contraversial casting choices like Daniel Craig as James Bond, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, and Michael Keaton as Batman paid off. We'll just have to wait and see. To me, the only real obstacle is his accent.
  • starscream9289
There's no need to recast or reboot this franchise! Each actor played their part great, especially Colin Farrell as Bullseye. They just need some better material!
  • jfive
heh anything is better then ben aflack coming back as the daredevil.
  • While they're at it why don't they hire Ray Winstone as the Kingpin? Then we could have a proper East-End accented Daredevil. Better than that, why don't they relocate the story to the UK and hire Guy Ritchie?
  • Bruce Vain
lol The Dark Knight has got the country thinking they are casting directors now LMAO@ Statham is wrong for Murdock!...wft???
  • jla
    LOL
  • Pennyworth
    hahahahahaha
  • Kip
I still kinda like the other Daredevil film... I might be in the minority on that, but I thought it was pretty decent. It wasn't the first hulk bad or anything like that. Funny enough a few years ago a friend of mine was going on and on about how Christian Bale would have made the perfect Daredevil
  • RobaRob
Alot of Statham bashing going on here. I thought he was very good in the bank job, a film that possibly sailed on by for a lot of folk.
But as Daredevil? I don't see him as Murdoch. But wearing the red suit? Aye.
  • moonsenlightenment
I Think Jason just needs to have room to spread his wings a bit and find the opportunity to explore other rolls a bit. I hope he does take it.. I'll be there to see it.
  • morpheos
Jason should stick to english hard men, that what he does best, Snatch, Lockstock, The Bank Job . Please Jason dont try and do that American accent, it's truely awful .. .. ..
  • lex
Frank Miller didn't choose Statham, the conversation went like this " Hey Statham, I think you'd be a great match for Bullzeye in my DD movie, interested?", "Bullzeye, Howz 'bout I be Daredevil" "Okay, sure". Unless Jason can pull off an American accent and hair, then there could be potential; don't see that happening,Miller is starting off on with 2 inches short of a millimeter.
  • beyonder
Guy Pearce is the best choice.
  • Mary
I think Jason needs to me allowed to try new things even being like the new James Bond who says Bond has to have hair, bald is sexy now days to woman. Let this man grow and see what happens.
  • andries price
