20th Century Fox is releasing a 40th anniversary Planet of the Apes set on Blu-ray. The set titled, Planet of the Apes: 40-Year Evolution will be available on November 4th 2008 for a suggested retail price of $158.98. The massive box set will include all five Planet Of The Apes films: The 1968 original Planet Of The Apes, Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Escape From The Planet Of The Apes, Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes (unrated version, previously unreleased in the U.S.), and Battle For The Planet Of The Apes. Each film will be presented in 2:35:1 widescreen with a newly mastered DTS audio. New features include an Evolution of the Apes HD Featurette, new behind the scenes HD featurettes for each sequel and much more. But I think the highlight of the collection is the beautiful box set which houses a 200-page coffee table book with artwork and liner notes. Check out the photos from HDR.

Damn! I knew that POTA DVD box set I bought 8 years ago would be tossed one day...No other industry can re-package something (so damn pretty I will add) and get me to buy it again, even though I have all of it numerous times already.

This is one of the reasons why the disc format will never die - no matter how many people download the POTA films - there will be die-hard fans like me that must have this again and especially for all these special features...Fox knows this and in 8 years from now when the next format comes out, I will no doubt be in line for that too!

DAMN YOU ALL STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!! That's what Heston meant at the end of the first movie!

    dark knight returns:
    jack nicholson as batman
    malcolm mcdowell as the joker
daniel day lewis as two face
    woody allen as the madhatter

on an unrelated note, this movie's alright.

How many more times can they possible repackage box sets like this with "NEW features"? One the monky head box came out last there was a tonne of stuff on that, where does all this new stuff come from?? I'd understand repackaging the films in HD audio/video but HD bonus features? Eh...

I.... HATE.... EVERYTHING.... PLANET OF THE APES!!!! Those damn apes always win! It REALLY irritates me that they beat the humans every time. (no the mutants don't count)

and the funny thing about this is that only an hour ago I was complaining to my friend that Planet of the Apes made it up to spot #249 on the IMDB top 250 today

I thought they just released a ape-head storage case set about a year ago. Lol !!!

Anyone ever get one of these massive box sets, open it up and find 1 disc has a scratch on it.
I love the look on the retailers face when I come back to exchange the $165.00 set for one bad disc.

Then you open the replacement set and it has 2 bad discs. Hahaaa.

    Keep your reciepts folks.

At least you got the dvd's. All I got was the head and the certificate-no dvd's. A BIG Christmas day let down.

How come they can never, ever design a cool looking case for these boxsets. This thing already looks dated.

    Like something from 1990.

Lifes too short to watch all the bonus features in this set.

Also .......for all that money, they should have topped the Ape Head Collectors set box and made a Charlton Heston Head, that talked whenever you opened it.
It could say, "Get your hands off that dvd you damm dirty Ape" or "They did it ,,, they fucking did it, wahhhhaaa.... why !!".
Each box set should also come with a 1 year NRA trial membership.

Come on bluRay marketing monkeys !!!!!! Think outside the Ape Head Box.
  • I bought the Ultimate collection and will pick this up too. The Ultimate Collection had the tv series and the animated series, where this doesn't but I have been dying to have the whole set on Blu Ray. The book looks great too!
