  • I am currently salivating... Good God, this film better not suck!
  • Presto117
about time we have the hi-res posters, but what about a hi-res version of the bloodey'smiley badge one?

and now i need to go to borders to pick this up.
  • Oh Blair
I think it's safe to say this movie will flop, LOL FLOP LIKE A DONKEY
  • I need this movie right now.
  • gah
The Citizen Kane of Superhero movies? No one has seen this movie yet. It looks pretty terrible too. Snyder is selling this film like it's the end of the superhero movie when in fact it will probably be just a sad footnote, a blip on the radar.
  • Presto117
    @ gah

if you've read Watchmen, which i have, you would completely understand that IF this movie is done right (and i emphasize "if"), you would understand why they're calling it the citizen kane of superhero movies.

Watchmen is far more complex than most comics even attempt to be and is the complete opposite of a popcorn action flick.

It would be so much easier if everyone who thinks this movie looks just like every other superhero movie just read the book already.
  • Presto117
oh, and for some reason this marketing campaign they've started so far seems to be aimed more towards the people who've already read Watchmen (which is a lot). Like the trailer was just a big bowl of confusion for some people who've never read it, but it's breathtaking for others who have read it already cause we get to see what's being done with this. and these posters speak for themselves.

oh, and gah, just to help show you how "special" Watchmen actually is, it's the only Graphic Novel/comic book to win a Hugo Award, the ONLY graphic novel/comic book to make it onto Time's top 100 novels since 1923 list, and is widely considered the best comic book ever written.

and if people are wondering why some of the costumes look so cheesy, they're supposed to. In the book, they were far cheesier on purpose. the book was sort of a commentary/satire on Superheroes and their morals and everything about them.
  • Matt
Oh Blair, unless you have a time machine I'd say you're betting against the odds. The video diaries, trailer, comic-con clips, actor impressions, and high-res photos have all pointed to this being a worthy partner to the novel.
  • Ohiofile
Most people that I talk to don't know what Watchmen is. They walk out of TDK wondering, "What was that trailer about?" I'm not sure that the general public cares that much. If it's not a good film, and with Zach, there's a chance of that, then it will probably make 300 type money. If it's good, then it could not only do well but be important to film as a whole. Will it be as important to this medium as the graphic novel is to its medium? No.

For those of you who are going to start telling me how good Zach Snyder is, there isn't much ground to stand on. The guy has made a remake of a classic zombie film in which he added Danny Boyle's running zombies and a graphic novel that he copied frame for frame and took 7 years to convince people to make. When you're tracing someone else's work, I don't know how hard the job is. Most of Dawn of the Dead is unwatchable a second time and 300 is a video game that you can't control. I'll be convinced about Watchmen when I see more then a trailer of cool images straight from the graphic novel.
  • Captain Awesome
    Man, this is looking great.

    Thanks for these Peter!
  • jj gonzo
    THIS MOVIE IS...BADASS!!!!
  • Oh Blair
    MATT

I think the person who wrote the novel disowned this movie and wanted nothing to do about it. Why would someone want to see something that is butchered such as this
  • Matt
Oh Blair, it seems your only issue is lack of knowledge. Perhaps you should know more about something in the future before you make claims. The author, Alan Moore, doesn't give consent to hardly any of his projects moving to other mediums. He was burned a couple times, apparently, so he's become almost isolationistic. And no one besides some of the production have seen the uncut movie anyway.
  • Are the last three in high res?
  • Presto117
Yeah, Alan Moore has basically disowned himself from hollywood. He's hated all of his adaptions that people have done so far, and he decided to do the same for Watchmen. He absolutely refuses to watch it, and he's had WB take his name off the credits and the artist of Watchmen, Dave Gibbons, is receiving all of Moore's royalties since Gibbons is actually part of the production team, who is actually very pleased with the film. Snyder himself knows how big of an impact this film will have on his career and he understands the work. In fact, the only reason the film's at 3 hours (unless the studio cuts it) is cause no one would go watch a 4-5 hour movie. He's doing his best to fight Warner to keep the film at 3 hours to maintain at least what they can fit in that time slot. And if you've seen the comic con panels on youtube, the actors understand their characters perfectly. ESPECIALLY Patrick Wilson, who plays Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl II. If you watch the panel on youtube and listen to what he says he COMPLETELY understands his character and everythign about him.

While i doubt this movie will be as good as the book by any means, i believe that Zack Snyder can actually come back from his current reputation with this film and i believe he can do a decent adaption of this film.
  • Goobity
@ Ohiofile : "For those of you who are going to start telling me how good Zach Snyder is, there isn’t much ground to stand on."

Really? Name any noteworthy film, and I'll give you a previous effort by the director / creator that was entirely sub-par. Give the guy a chance, will you?
By all that's been shown to us thus far, Watchmen seems like a faithful and enjoyable translation. I look forward to it.

"Will it be as important to this medium as the graphic novel is to its medium? No."

Of course not. They're different mediums. That's kind of the point. Ever read the brilliant Citizen Kane graphic novel? No, you haven't.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
This movie looks awesome, and I have not read the book... I never even heard of it until the trailer (which looks freakin sweet even without knowing whats going on).
I may have to go get this book at borders ASAP.
  • M&Co
Those posters are great - and there's a shot of Bubastis in there! That thing is going to look incredible.
  • drmecha
Gotta love the Doc Manhattan ass shot.
  • Presto117
@ A Better Class of Criminal

you're better of ordering it online. Lots of stores are selling out of it.

My friend tried to get a hold of one last week and every book store in a 10 mile radius was sold out.

we have about 5 borders and 2 comic book stores within a 10 mile radius.

and last time i checked, Watchmen was the number 3 selling book on amazon.

of course i can't speak for every borders or barnes and noble, but i'd at least be safe and give your stores a call first.
  • evanz
At least this movie has prompted me to buy the book. I ordered my copy from Amazon last week. Should get here any day now.
  • Apollo Creed
Alright, there sweet tits! First of all...of course the trailers are going to sensationalize it & make it look like an exciting action movie. It's a business. The goal is to get butts in seats. If you think movie makers do what they do to appease a handful of fanboys, you're about a smart as a sack full of hammers. And, you're a fool if you think that the majority of the movie going audience has ever even heard of "Watchmen", let alone read it. As for myself (someone who has done both)...so far so good. That being said, I can make no judgment calls until I actually see the film. But...I can't wait.

I'm pretty sure they photoshoped the undies on that pic of Dr. Manhattan on Empire mag hehe
  • Captain Awesome
    StarBlazer101,

    lol yes.

Empire won't allow blue dong. Might as well go with a blue thong

    O_o
  • Gary
I just read the book, its fantastic, if done right this movie could be better than the Dark Knight ! I hope they dont screw it up.
  • J.Kerr
Eh, this is definetly going to be a hit or miss. Ill go see it for sure, but i'm not going in with any high expectations. Zack Synder has not proven himself as a director, and the cast is made up of mostly unknowns. Id like to see how they can translate the tone and feel of the graphic novel, which for the most part comes with the documents at the end of each chapter (or issue). In the end, i predict this to be a modest box office sucess, with a 70% average rating from critics.
  • beakmans balls
Why cant the blue guy put some damn clothes on?
  • The Iron Avenger
    @ beakmans balls

Because he's (in a nutshell) God. He's not even human, so he doesn't ever feel obligated to wear clothes, though he does when appearing for public events.
  • Gary
    beakmans balls,
Why cant the blue guy put some damn clothes on?

    Because he has blue balls.
  • krackajap
If i could be as well endowed as i wanted i wouldn't wear pants either but alas, i'm asian.
  • Captain Awesome
    lol @ krackajap's comment
  • Mayroth
this movie looks amazing. if done right, it'll be the greatest superhero flick ever. Zack Snyder rules.
  • H
I read the Watchmen, from what I have seen in the trailer is exactly what is in the book. This movie will work if 1. People understand that the costumes are supposed to look like crappy versions of real superhero costumes (nite owl=batman). 2. The dialogue is not delivered in a cheesy form. 3. The animation is believable. Only then will this movie match the awesomeness that the novel was. Its on times list of 100 greatest novels.
  • Matt
I laugh at krackajap's sincerity. It must be hard having censored genitals.
  • Vobe
lol: Sally Jupiter nearly has a fucken cameltoe xD
  • NachoCheese
the night owl ship looks like WALL-E.

so excited for this film, loved the comic growing up.
  • Damion
LOL@the speedos on Dr. Manhattan. Hopefully it won't suck like MOST comic movies do. And they really need to quit with the "visionary director of 300" crap. We get it already.
