Prince of Persia Pushed Back to 2010

Disney has announced that they will be pushing the big screen adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time back to May 28th 2010, from it’s previously announced June 19th 2009 release date. The old date was one week before Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The good news is that the new date is part of Memorial Day weekend, which will give the film a four day opening. The bad news is that the movie will now have to contend with Shrek Goes Fourth, which opens one week prior, and Marvel’s Thor, which is scheduled to hit theaters one week later.

Prince of Persia is an action adventure video game which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time. Alfed Molina and Ben Kingsley co-star. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire helmer Mike Newell is directing under producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Persia began filming at the beginning of July in Morocco.

darn. darn. i was really looking forward to Prince of Persia next summer. darn.
  • Does this mean Narnia Dawn Treader is getting ready to move as well?

Wait, the guy that directed Goblet of Fire is doing this? Glad to know the executives are planning to take a dump on the collective chest of Prince of Persia fans in 2010.
  • what
Gemma Arterton is "exotic"?? What? The lovely lass is many things, but casting her as exotic is absurd. Then again, looking at the rest of the cast leaves us asking "Is that the whitest whitebread cast you ever done seen?"
  • hmmz ... 2010 is too late :(

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

First Jake has nothing of the prince!
Seriously nothing against him but is just no the prince...i was more excited when i heard that Orlando Bloom was going to be the prince he is more like him!

I think i am going to be veryyyy disappointed with the cast but very glad with the fight scenes the concept art and everything else!
  • The Usual Suspect
ddy_blue - you couldn't have "heard tht Orlando Bloom was going to be the prince" because he was never considered. So you couldn't have been "excited". Unless you are very, very easily excited.

How do you convert a game solely about acrobatics into a film? this film's going to be so one-dimensional especially with Bruckheimer's involvement. at least it'll look good

    @ The usual suspect

i'm sorry he was considered...i saw it somewhere but they were in doubt if he would like to be in another epic trilogy and all...and i know for sure that u dont know everythinnnnng out there..
