Che Bootleg Trailer

A bootleg trailer for Stephen Soderbergh’s two part Che Guevara biopic Che has hit the interwebs. The Benicio Del Toro film which premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival in May has yet to find a domestic distributor. It certainly seems like a hard sell, especially as two films. I think I’d rather see a four-hour cut the combines both films. Check out the trailer below in it’s dark flickery goodness. And as always, tell me what you think in the comments.

  • yeah but KILL BILL was spliced into 2 films, remember?
  • Coral
So... this is like, the real version of Medellin?

the controversy about if this film would be better off as 2 films or 1 4-hour cut totally reminds me of the pablo escobar storyline in entourage.
  • Ryan
Ya, but this is no Kill Bill. The audience appeal for CHE will be much less than Tarantino's films. Definitely a tough sell. Nevertheless, I think it looks great. Del Toro fits Guevara's image from what I can tell. I think a four-hour marathon would be hard to sit through for almost anybody who's not fascinated by this time. Then again, two films seems like a lot also. Either way, I'll see it.

I will wait for it to come out on DVD.
  • Captain Awesome
This trailer looks much better with Youtube's Hi-Def option turned on.

I think what a couple of people said here are right. It would be a hard sell due to the theme. I say break it up into two film like Eastwood did with Flags of Our Fathers.

Either way, this looks great. Benecio seems to have really captured Che well.

I am going to have to say that I think for optimal viewing and the complete absorption of this film would be best suited for HBO and broken up into a mini-series a la John Adams. The amount of information and historical significance is too much for a theatrical release. They can still win awards if that is there driving concern.

it's so rare that we see a drama with a 'sequel', that i'm ok with it because it's different. overall, i'm just glad this movie was finally made.

    VIVA EL CHE, PAPO!!!!
    LA REVOLUCION NUNCA SE ACABA!!!

reminiscent of medillien on entourage...anyone? anyone?
  • Bill
any native Spanish speakers care to comment on Benicio's accent? I remember he got a lot of flak for his Mexican accent in Traffic. How is his Argentiniant?

    @ Chuckles

This is a movie, not a documentary. I don't think the Historical significance would be of such a great deal. I mean, it would but not to the point where this movie can be considered a documentary and not a movie, there are going to change a couple of stuff and a lot of things are going to be omitted, so in my opinion there is no reason for this movie to be turn into a mini-series.

    @ Bill

I'm not entirely sure who exactly was speaking in this video; It seemed to me that it was Del Toro, but I'm not really sure, but if the voice in this video is his then he doesn't sound Argentinian, I do not know if it was intentionally, but he sounded cuban with just a little bit of mexican, almost not noticeable.

i hope this is about the real che and not t-shirt che because t-shirt che is a 1note character rep of the man and i'm sick of seeing all the little white kids wearing che shirts thinking he stands for one thing when he stood for a completely other. i understand this is a drama but when a man is so tied to his actions and ideology you can't compromise his character for the sake of drama why make the film about the man if you are going to change who and what he was. I will see it because it looks more then just a t-shirt rep, hopefully it is more then that.
