During Comic-Con this weekend, the chainsaw began sputtering once again for Evil Dead 4. Director Sam Raimi, there promoting his comeback horror film, Drag Me To Hell, announced the return of Bruce Campbell’s Ash to fans…

“I love working with Bruce Campbell… He’s super willing to do anything to make it right. He’s a very funny guy, but mostly he’s got this quality where he will physically do anything to get the shot done right, so I would love to work with Bruce again because I’d love to test those limits.

I’d love to make another Evil Dead picture. And actually that’s in the wheelhouse. I’d like to work on it with my brother Ivan [Raimi] when he comes up next week.“

Next week! Wheelhouse! The last Evil Dead film, Army of Darkness, was released in 1992 but the mainstream wasn’t in on the cult bliss and it fizzled at the box office. The franchise has spawned countless DVDs ever since, as well as video games, the twice campy Evil Dead: The Musical and rumors like Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. Raimi has hinted at an Evil Dead 4 for years, and his brother’s involvement was previously discussed during the Spider-Man 3 press rounds.

Discuss: Evil Dead 4. Can Raimi still capture crazy in a bottle? We think so.

I'm scared of what Raimi can do to the franchise... look at Spidey 3...
  • jason credon
are you serious? you make it sound like he wasnt part of the earlier movies
  • Biggles12
    Don't spoil a good thing.
  • I think it's a good thing! Revisit it before The Chin gets too old to do it justice.
  • Sam Raimi knows how to sell his movie, probably one of the best ones out there, thats one scary movie

    hahhahahahha YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Hmmm... I don't know man. With the crapola part fours that we've had with Indy, Lethal Weapon, Star Wars and Superman... Could this really be that good?

I actually enjoyed parts of Spider-Man 3, but what could they possibly do to improve on the series?

I would love to be proven wrong, Ala' the new Rambo -- so hopefully, Raimi takes a cue from Stallone and gives the fans what they really want.

Gore, comedy and the chin quipping lie crazy.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! My friends and I have been waiting so long for this! lol
and for those of you who are worried (Biggles) I wouldn't be because he said in an interview long ago that if he made a 4th it would be back to the basics like the first 2. Low budget with Ash getting the cr@p kicked out of him by the deadites lol
  • That's the best news I've heard all week :)
  • Meli
Part me says, "YES!" and then the other part wonders if maybe
well enough is alone. I think it would be good for Raimi to go back
to where he started and keep it the low budget fun of past. If they do definitely go ahead I think Bruce Campbell might need to work
out a little bit unless he plays an aged more comfortable Ash. He doesn't have a huge physical demand on Burn Notice.
  • hopefully ash doesn't go Emo and start dancing on pianos and punching his girlfriend while his best friend sits in bed with a retard smile. ... actually Bruce could make that work.

Evil Dead: The Musical is epic. It has a splash zone.
  • Michestellar
    Groovy.
  • I hope they make it. Evil Dead rules.
  • Eric
HEY! As long as it ISN'T a remake, I'm in.

I would love to see another Evil Dead 4. I would be interested to see what could be done and what fresh direction it might go.

However ... to me it feels like backtracking for Rami to take the reputation and popularity and clout he has built in the success of the Spiderman films and channel all that weight into something that already feels complete and he delivered successfully over 15 years ago.

Why not take all of his weight and put it into something completely new? I would hate for him to digress back into low budget horror when he might be able to give us something more fresh with his talents.

If its not going to be as passionate as the others, and he is just doing it because of the cult demand and for nostalgic purposes, than I pass ... if he has a fresh idea and has been inspired in that Ash vein than I would be especially enthusiastic and excited.

If Bruce is on board, I am on board! I think.

Ugh No, I have had my nuts steped on over and over again with the resurrection of my beloved franchises, I'm not sure I want to see this. I have wanting it since AOD but lately (and I hate to say this) I'm loosing my taste for bruce. The guy doesn't even look like himself, he must have put on 200 lbs. Not to mention he will do any pile of shit movie for 20 bucks, yea he is a b Movie actor. But that made for Sci-Fi shit Alien..whatever really sucked ass as well as screaming brain..damn can't he afford to be a little selective? and that last book ugh, confessions was great! but make love...after reading it, it led me to believe he didn't write the first one. IF they do it, I hope they prove me wrong. I'm still recovering from Indiana Jones.

this is great news. Ash is a character that works in any physicality or age. Camp has a longer life than cool. I'd actually laugh if Ash said "I'm too old for this shit." With that character, it just works.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'd almost like to see Ash in a film with a budget - as campy as ever, but with some "A" design and production work. I dunno, maybe a truly scary Deadite won't be the same, but ...
if nothing else, can you imagine an extended fight scene between Ash and a bunch of skeleton creeps.....or a severed head that starts running around a room.

low budget might be cool too. I'm on the fence.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS~!

    Finally.

Sam Raimi has done nothing since the Gift (8 years ago) to make me believe he can still make good films.
  • American Male
Just remember that Army of Darkness flopped big at the box office. I remember that most theaters dumped it after the initial week it showed.

It did great though in DVD sales. I hope Raimi can help it out.

Evil Dead 4 should be called Necronomicon. It should be an epic movie that demonstrates the true power of the book. Ash is called upon to prevent Armageddon. Possible storyline: Bruce begins with a narration describing his life since the deadite was blown away at the S-mart. He has become the store manager of the S-mart, but regrets his decision to come back to the modern time. He wishes that he had chosen to be the king. He is shown at a Renaissance Fair getting drunk on ale and wine and pretending to be king. The sun is eclipsed and the full moon appears before turning red. A beautiful young girl comes running out from the castle where the renaissance fair is being held. The girl is crying and screaming. She falls at the feet of Ash. She tells Ash that she and her coven had trespassed within the castle and had ascended to the tallest tower. They had in their possession the Necronomicon. They attempted to use the incantation to summon the Devil (known as Bel, Marduk, and Lucifer). The summoning worked much to their surprise. The Devil kills 12 of the thirteen girls of the coven except for the one that escaped. The Devil uses the spells within the Necronomicon to turn the twelve dead witches into Deadites. The Apocalypse begins... The spells from the Necronomicon are used to raise all of the dead that lie buried in the cemetery next to the abandoned cathedral behind the castle. The spells are used by the Devil to summon lightning and call fire from heaven. Additional demons are also summoned. Ash has to sober up quickly in order to lead a ragtag army of fair entertainers and attendees into the castle to retrieve the book from the Devil so that the witch can use the banishment spell within the Necronomicon to send the Devil back to Hell. They have to fight their way through the skeletons from the cemetary, through the deadite witches, and past the summoned demons to get to the Devil. It requires an assault on the castle to get to the highest tower. Imagine the humor of a drunken and older Ash having to lead the knights, jugglers, sword swallowers, and jesters along with the other appropriately attired fairgoers armed with the weapons provided by the blacksmiths and craftsmen at the fair. It should be a true horror movie. Rated R! Only Ash and the witch should survive the fight to get to the tower. The others should die heroically and terribly in their attempt to defeat the Army of Darkness. Ash will fight the Devil one on one to distract Lucifer while the girl gets the Necronomicon and casts the banishment incantation. The sun shines again and Ash saves the day and gets the girl (young beautiful witch). They burn the Necronomicon. This will allow no more movies. The Necronomicon began the Evil Dead series and the destruction of the book should end the series. This is an example of what Sam and Bruce should do... They never before had the money and backing to finance a truly fantastic and epic movie. Although the special effects in previous efforts were amusing, this should be an effort to make the effects as realistic as possible. I want the people in the audience at the theater to see this on the screen and think that it is actually happening or could happen.

I would love to see an evil dead 4. But I would like to see it as a high budget gore feast. I hope when they make it they tone down the comedy considerably and heighten the gore and horror factors. As for having an older Ash I don't see a problem with it as long as Bruce campbell is willing to get into great shape and perform as physically as needed to make the film all that it can be. the horror genre these days needs an evil dead 4 to reestablish it's self as a considerable and well received style of film making. I would also like to see this more done in the style of the first movie as opposed to the army of darkness which was really only a comedy.

I think you took it the wrong way...

I mean, he never said he would do it, just that he wanted to.

1st film GREAT, 2nd film ok, 3rd film pants, 4th...............

Finally Ash is Back to Kill some Deadites. This is a dream come true.
  • I love the Evil Dead franchise, I really liked the original
two films, Army Of Darkness was really just Sam Raimi
having fun with the character & format but for me it
was all just abit OTT on the humour side, Ash is at
his best when he is getting on with killing the deadites,
making the odd funny, intelligent quip here & there
and obviously the great faces he pulls not to mention
    the now famous Bruce Chin!

If Evil Dead 4 is made they would need to go back
to basics & look at what made the first film so good,
a modern rehash of the idea won't really work it
needs to at least seem to be alittle bit dated in
regard to its look, feel & style.

My thought idea wise is that some young adults
maybe even teenagers are away on holiday
they find the Necronomicon & decide like in
the first film to read some of the passages
out aloud, Bruce Campbell (Ash) is now a
Parks Ranger, walking the woods, countryside
protecting the world from deadite attack &
just generally out looking for weird stuff,
he stumbles across the lodgings of the friends
by chance & when he finds out what they have
been doing he makes a quick quip upon
realisation "Oh no... not this again you
    gotta be kidding me!"

All hell breaks loose, the friends come under
constant attack from the deadites its a race
for survival but they have a better chance
than most would have against this Dark Army
of evil, they've got Ash, bring it on she-bitch!

Hail to the king! - Groovy..
  • AshLives
i am so excited i love the evil dead series i am currently in film school because of raimi in the first and second ones they r the best movies ever incredibly well shot. Hail to the king Baby

Anyone who has seen Drag me to hell won't question it. Sam Raimi is a man who clearly knows what he's doing. And Bruce, well...it's BRUCE CAMPBELL People of course he'll be good he's a legend!
