Video: Comic Con 2008 Wrap-Up

Comic Con 2008 has come to an end, and the /Film crew is completely exhausted. We recorded a couple videos on the last day of the con, wrapping up everything that had happened. Joining us on the first video is /Film’s David Chen behind the camera, Spout/Rejects’s Kevin Kelly, FirstShowing’s Alex Billington and Screenrant’s Vic Holterman. They compare this year’s convention to last year’s. Does Watchmen and Terminator Salvation match up to the craziness of Iron Man from last year?

David also recorded a second video with an exhausted /Film editor Peter Sciretta about the best and worst of this year’s comic con. Peter was disappointed by Pixar’s Up, shocked by Disney’s Tron 2, and sold on both Watchmen and Terminator Salvation. David was completely surprised by McG/ Terminator, the demeanor of Zack Snyder and wants to know what the BFD is with Tron 2. We apologize about the annoying train bells in the background. And did Peter mention that they’ve been in San Diego for 4 days now?

If one thing can be gathered from both videos, it is that Warner Bros is the winner of this year’s Con, and Paramount was the big disappointment as they decided to sit this one out. And everyone agrees that Lionsgate should have never brought The Spirit to the con.

    @ peter

thanks for pushing 'the wackness' so much this year. i finally saw it over the weekend and holy f-ing shit, that was a film! in there with igby goes down, for a solid modern coming of age tale. it's funny/nostalgic/SAD/perfectly crafted etc..basically it just sticks with you - it's worth going out of your way to see. (i didn't really know where to post this, but it was a great recomendation, thanks)

You guys, all of you, appear to be very nice people. I've met Robert Sanchez from iesb.net, and he's okay - he's more in-your-face and brash, but he means well. But you guys are the more..laid back types.

Peter I saw you walking about, but I didn't have the courage to say hello to you and say how much i enjoy your site. maybe next year.

    Thanks
  • Tim
Why does David's shirt say Poo Port in the second video?
  • Wakka wakka
@ Peter by the way. forgot that. lol.
  • film god
i love you guys. thanks for all the coverage.

  • Jerris Beutler's Day On

Great coverage. I think it would have been cool to bump into you guys while I was there. The exhibit hall was way too packed. But, I feel that I say that each year. It didn't blow me away like last year. There was some good stuff though. We'll see how these movies measure up to their comic-con hype.

I would love to see more video on this site, year round. Like... daily slashfilmcasts, and... week-in-review videos, and... um... live webcam coverage of people hanging out... talking about movies....

It would make the remainder of my summer more fulfilling.

Oh, and I've been wondering. Will last weeks After Dark podcast ever be uploaded? I missed out on that due to some sort of internet connection thing.

ahaha David Chen. i love the graph- thanks for pointing out the axes for us at home. glad to see your geekness doesnt stop at movies.
  • Great coverage guys! The vids were a lot of fun, thanks so much for putting them on the site! Was cool to see what the con was like.

I hope everyone gets some rest now! Take care,
  • Matt
Besides not filming panel sneak-peek footage, which I assume is against the rules, I think you guys did a pretty good job. Imo the best in the blogosphere. Maybe I missed it but did you guys not do any interviews?
I really enjoyed the video impressions and hope you'll expand the idea next year.
    Damn you Jerris.
  • tim, i also noticed davids "POO PORT" shirt. cant wait to see it on busted tees. ;) great videos guys, saved me a trip to san diego! THANKS!
  • krackajap
So David got ripped apart for being positive about Terminator and Peter agrees with him. Why is no one talking shit about him.
  • Rachel Summers
You guys are too funny and too lucky. I feel like I endured the past FOUR DAYS with ya'll. It was awesome.

    And Alex is just adorable.

Here's really hilarious panel footage of Pineapple Express: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GCX8ykiWh5Y

Nice coverage guys. I enjoyed your insight and hope to hear more from you tommorrow during filmcast. That sucks about the Spirit though. I mean, what happened to Frank Miller? First All Star Batman & Robin and now this? He's lost his game. Time to hang up the fedora.
