Video: Comic Con Day 3 Wrap Up

On Friday afternoon at Comic Con, Peter Sciretta and David Chen of /Film are joined by Kelvin and El Mayimbe of Latino Review and Vic from Screenrant to talk about the atrocity that was The Spirit, the unexpected surprise of The Wolfman and the awesome Watchmen footage.

  • Tom
I think El mayimbe secretly fights crime at night
  • The problem with THE SPIRIT, is that it looks nothing, nothing like Will Eisner's comic. You mentioned DICK TRACY, but the fact is, THE SPIRIT has more in common with the overall look of the Warren Beatty film, rather than this SIN CITY look.

Frank Miller was the wrong guy for the job. He's not a director. The only directing experience he's had was the time he spent on SIN CITY; and therefore only learned how to shoot a movie on a stage, against a green-screen. THE SPIRIT is not that type of movie; it should have been shot on a backlot with sets.

I think the other problem is, is that most people don't know what THE SPIRIT is, or has ever read a page of the comic. And there aren't enough fanboys of the material to make a big stink out of this, that would raise some awareness. If this material had a fanbase the size of WATCHMEN, there would be a lot of screaming and yelling on how Frank Miller has ruined this property.

Love these daily wrapups, especially last night's story about the firstshowing guy getting nearly kicked out by the twilight mom. Keep em coming.
  • Mike
I actually liked the footage that was shown. I'm looking foreward to this film very much.

Just for reference, it's just "Watchmen", not "the Watchmen". Of course, "the Watchmen footage" is fine, but it's just Watchmen. Watchmen watchmen watchmen.

Going into a movie with no expectations and liking it (The Spirit) is way better than going into a movie with super high expectations and being disappointed (Watchmen) if you ask me.
