Watch out Billy Zane! Fantasy Moguls reports that The Dark Knight is on track to gross $77 million this weekend—only a 50% drop from last weekend, the largest opening on record. If so, the film will have grossed $315 million by Monday, surpassing the total domestic grosses of both Iron Man and Lame Indiana Jones Sequel to become 2008’s toppity top movie in a mere 10 days. Indeed: that’s another record. Repeat viewings are holding steady. On IMDB, TDK remains the number one movie of all time after 125,000 votes by users. Surely including W’s?

In other news, Will Ferrell doesn’t have to grow up and clean out his belly button. Step Brothers, the R-rated Judd Apatow production co-starring John C. Reilly from The Tim and Eric Awesome Show, is likely to gross $30+ million this weekend. After watching The Joker blow out windows in the good name of anarchy, summer moviegoers will lap up some beer and coast out on a strong line-up of dirty comedies, continuing with Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. And less than $15 million worth of Americans care to see Mulder and Scully suck face and trek through snow alongside Xzibit. X FIles I Want to Believe is a mothball/bomb, and yes, we know that its budget was $30 million.

  • Well The Dark Knight just a amazing movie seen 3 times already, no wonder its making 300+ most people I know seen it at least 2 times
  • Good show
  • Brody
It's a classic. It will do just over 450M in my opinion.
  • Goldfoot
Wonderful choice of a picture consider what he's saying.
  • Jojo
So XF2 will do around 11-15 million this weekend and has a budget of 30 million yet you say this is a bomb?? I say it is more of a disappointment than bomb. This shows that moviebloggers have no fucking clue how boxoffice works.
  • Dumbass
Stock tip: Invest in clown makeup now. This Halloween will be a banner year. For douche bags of all types will go Joker!
  • charles
If this movie makes over $600 million that will be amazing. I think it'll hit at least $500 million.
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @ JoJo

Mathletes meeting is that ------> way.
  • Biggest movie of the century or bust!

I really have no idea how long TDK's streak will keep up. Will Mummy 3 be little more than a speed bump? Will it be weakened enough for Tropic Thunder to triumph? Who knows...
  • starscream9289
    That's a great Joker still :D
  • and that movie has not even started in germany (which is seen as the third biggest market after UK for music/movies) IIRC
  • Jerrrrrrr-E Bu T Ler Dero III
Ouch, thar be haters thataway, skippa!

Seriously though, enough with tdk, /Film. Last month, it was Wall-E. Declaring a new "biggest movie of all time" every two weeks gets old real fast.

"It’s well known on here that 90% of the shit this idiot submit’s is an embarrassment to this site. He is a waste of time."

    I mean, bejebbus! lol

    That's harsh.

I flinched when I read that. Even though he threatened to place my posts in some sort of "spam folder" as if this blog runs off of the same crappy software interface which runs his aol email acct, I still find many of Hunter's posts to be at the very least......readable.

    Sometimes..........coherent, even.

Jerrr you do realize this is a MOVIE web sight where they talk about MOVIES?? TDK has broken all kinds of box office records and the hype wont go away anytime soon. So Jerrrr why so serious???
  • Windmillninja
Still had to get the Bush dig in. We get it, Hunter. Did you not count the number of comments on that "article"?
  • JFK
With a gross this high DKR and DK2 are no longer a matter of "will they make it ever" instead it's become "who will direct it, who will star in it, and when".
We will see DKR in our lifetime.
In fact, I guarantee you Warner Brothers will never go ten years with out making a Batman flick or relaunching the franchise after this past opening weekend. This much money speaks to Hollywood in ways awesome materiel and fan beckoning never will.
The only reason they didn't make a sequel to Titanic is obvious; but I guarantee you becuase of its Box Office the idea was seriously kicked around.

We are going to witness many different interpretations of the Batman in the next 40 years. The best news is: all the Schumacher crap is behind us. But Warner Bros. will be chasing this B.O. for a long long time.

    Jerry,

You can keep changing that name all you want. You're still the same dildo.

    Hunter, keep keepin' it real.
  • TheMarquis
Hunter Stephenson for VP of Keepin' America Real. Obama, take notice.
  • LMAO. Your "fanboyism" is much lamer than INDIANA JONES.
  • Jerris Beutler's Day On
Ah, Hunter. Check it out, it seems I have my own Hater Posse here as well. So don't feel bad, buddy, I'm right there with ya.

records! records! records! be sure to bring plenty of kleenex and lotion when you see the dark knight for the fourteenth time.
  • Captain Awesome
    christ,

I'm working on it. I'm at my 4th viewing. I might hit 14 by November easily.
  • Mike
    @Brody

Wtf are you talking about? I love reading Hunters post. Someones been drinking some haterade.
  • Chip
Well, I must say this is good news. While it's not perfect, and certainly not the best movie of all time, I was extremely satisfied with TDK. While Ledger's performance was the most memorable, he wasn't the only good thing about the movie. Everyone, such as Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, and Gary Oldman each did a fantastic job. Even the very minor characters were acted well. Once again, I was very satisfied, and the ending was great.

While I enjoyed Iron Man a lot, The Dark Knight was definitely better. Both of them are better than Indy 4, which was very disappointing to me. I love the originals, especially Raiders (one of my favorite films). The Dark Knight and Wall-E are my two favorite films of the year, with Iron Man coming 3rd.

If you're going to talk shit, at least switch up your IP. Thanks.
  • Captain Awesome
    Chip,

I'm with you 100 percent about TDK. It has many great facets to offer and they're executed with a masterful hand.

Awesome. The fact that TDK has managed to break so many records so fast is really just amazing. Here's hoping it goes on to break a few more.
  • Such a great movie... and like 1000000 times better on an Imax screen for sure!!! I got so wrapped up in the film that I had to make a time line of the making of this movie!! I found so much stuff online and made just one huge linear time line of the movie at capzles.com. Tons of behind the scenes footage/photos and all the viral marketing campaign that they did for it as well, like Clowns against Dent... check it out i'm very positive you won't be sorry!
