That line from this morning already?!?! Im just about to head down to the convention center.
  • Are you going to the Fringe pilot screening tonight?
  • Quenfis
I'm there Saturday and Sunday. I can't wait. For some reason last year seemed more exciting (Iron Man, Hulk, TDK, etc.). This year is exciting, but I don't know if anything is sticking out as a must see yet.

Let me know of any after hours parties I can crash. :)
  • Ive never been to a comic con before :(

I would LOVE to go someday, though.

I will see you guys there.

Rumor is, is that the Con is moving to Las Vegas in 2012 or 2013, because San Diego's convention center can't hold any more people, nor there are enough hotels to room everyone.

Enjoy the city of San Diego while you still can!

Cover it boys....like a thick blanket of snow.

I can't be there. Be my eyes....be my ears.

Vegaaaaaas! Vegaaaaaas! As much as I like S.D. and the clean ocean breeze, Vegas would be killer. And, lucky me, I have a time share there so no need to mess with Hotel's. See you in 2012. I'll be the guy laying in my own vomit, shirtless, and one casino chip in my hand. Joy!

I personally would hate the idea of Comic-Con in Vegas... being in San Diego is the other whole half of even going.

The problem is, is that the Con needs to start cutting back on attendees. First of all, if the organization is non-profit (or at least that's what they claim), I don't think scaling back a few thousand people would hurt. I'm sure with the actual costs of renting the convention center, and the rates at which booths are, that the Comic-Con covers its costs, and makes quite a healthy profit to boot. Ah, remember the days when you could actually walk the convention floor without rubbing up against the sweaty stench of geeks. Too many people.

The other BIG problem, and it is big, is the company that the Con uses for the hotel convention rates... Travel Planners. First of all, they allow individuals to book up to 9 rooms at once. Last year (2007), I know for a fact that the day of the bookings, a lot of people were booking multiple rooms and then basically scalping them on craigslist for regular room rates, or even more. I can see a company with a booth and employees where the need 9 rooms or more, but just an individual... no more than 2 rooms, I say.

And in my personal experience, Travel Planners has just been crap to deal with. When I had to cancel my trip this year, I called the company to cancel, but was told to call the hotel directly, which I did. I was told by my hotel that I had to cancel within 2 weeks before the convention, and therefore was being charged one nights rate. Even though Travel Planners specifically points out on their reservation confirmation, that only 72hrs notice is necessary to cancel.

To sum up, even with all the problems, Comic-Con just wouldn't be the same if it moved out of San Diego.

Randy, your new nickname shall be "Wet Blanket." :P Even through all of that Debbie Downerness, Comic-Con is still awesome. Crowded now, but awesome. If it stays in S.D., I think it will still be cool. If it goes to Vegas, I think we are in store for some major hangover faces in the aisles...which could cause mass geek temper tantrum outbreaks. :/ But, I would be there with bells on!

Vegas is July?? OK as long as you don't leave the A/C convention center or don't mind 105+ temps.

ITA about Travel Planners. They need better/faster servers and more phone lines (or whatever tech is takes) to handle the massive influx of online reservations the day the reservations open. There are other issues, which I hope they iron out before next yr.
