The book series is great fun. I hope this lives up to the author’s creative plots and characters. I also hope he doesn’t make us Louisiana folks all look like dorks and that they get the New Orleans accents right this time. It is infuriating to watch something set in New Orleans or South Louisiana and the characters sound like they are from Arkansas or Tennessee. Different accent guys. Looking forward to it though.

To Captain Awesome:

I have no doubt the tone was intentional. Regardless, the pilot was not only humorless but boring. Granted pilots are usually just meant to establish characters and the world they live in, but still… this is some unbelievably dull shit. Which sucks, because the idea is interesting.

i saw some pics and Anna Paquin looks gorgeous blonde!
i thought at first it was a bad choice to cast her as the lead cuz i dont know i love anna sometimes i dont think she got it but then i see some of her movies and i remember she can be very good!

Danny,

What you describe is what Ball intentionally planned. While I loved what he’s done thus far. This sounds like it’s not my cup of tea.

But that’s what he was going for from the interviews I’ve read of him speaking about this. He said it’s not supposed to be some serious, dark, take on vampires. But more along the lines of “Buffy” in some regards.

I saw the leaked pilot.

Loved it.

Can’t wait for this to start…and meanwhile there is a ton of clever and often hilarious viral/advance marketing happening right now to set up the show’s universe in advance of ep.#1.

It’s a great sign, IMHO, that Ball has recently said he’s never seen the BUFFY and ANGEL tv shows — and thinks NEAR DARK is the best vampire film ever made.
