A new Japanese poster for Dragonball has shown up online at DBthemovie.com. I’m sure Fox will launch some new marketing materials later this week at Comic Con.

Wow this poster really captures the beauty of the manga/anime. The beautiful blue sky ( highly reminiscent of the vibrant colors of the anime and the landscape is right on). Justin Chatwin looks fantastic in the traditional orange gi (He is even sporting the Kame japanese symbol). Everything is right on! Finally a poster for this film that gives some hope that it will remain faithful to the source material.

!!!!!!WTF!!!! i thought this was DragonBallZ not DragonBall “WhiteBoy with funny hair” this going to be the 2nd anime live action movie failure i just hope Ghost in the shell dose not fall in to the rank of thesse frist too tries….

  3. Gravatar

I’m personally a DragonBall fan, so I hope they won’t spoil it for us. Doesn’t seem too promising at this point though

  4. Gravatar

Goku didn’t have blue pants or giant metal accessories.

  5. Gravatar

    I already hate that movie

  6. Gravatar

    This…..looks….atrocious….theres nothing else to say

  7. Gravatar

    I like it.

It most definitely could look worse than this. I bet the fighting is gonna be great.

Awesome fighting is all I need for this.

  8. Gravatar

Wow!!!! Goku’s orange gi looks absolutely amazing :)
CHatwin really capture Goku for sure
    I can’t wait to see Dragonball March 13 2009….

  9. Gravatar

I am so happy Dragonball is finally coming
This is like a dream come true….
It looks like James Wong has everything on point so far

    100/100

  10. Gravatar

and the veredict is 50/50 i think its one of those movies that people will really hate or really like. i’m guessing this is a kids movie so i will judge it at that level.

  11. Gravatar

I wish Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski would have made this movie!

    This smells already…

It’s going to premiere on the SciFi channel, right? One of those Saturday Night “B” movies : )

  12. Gravatar

    Where’s Goku’s tail?

  13. Gravatar

    awesome ! simply awesome ! >_<

  14. Gravatar

This is a joke. I wonder what Akira Toriama thinks… This movie could have been so great. But once again Hollywood decided to pick a director who will no doubt be condescending the material.

    …sigh.

  15. Gravatar

It’s a tough call but considering the talent involved, this could come out good. If the fights are top notch, even better.

  16. Gravatar

Dragonball fans need to start seeing this movie as a “based on” and not as an “adaptation” because if you do, you’ll be highly disappointment and people will die…

You cannot compress the entire Dragonball anime/manga in a single movie at least you change things, a lot of things, so be prepared, you’ve been warned.

    peace!

  17. Gravatar

I already had little hope for this movie and this poster reduces that even more. I’m trying to hold out for some footage and not make sweeping judgements based on still pictures, but…ugh.

  18. Gravatar

This is going to be the ‘Speed Racer’ of the people from Generation Y.

  19. Gravatar

at least they’re keeping that outfit.
still… reeks of street fighter (the van damme one) flashbacks all over.

  20. Gravatar

es perfecto k la quieren hacer en una version de la realidad hechenle ganas y no defrauden a los fans de esta super serie porfa..

    gracias..

    bye

  21. Gravatar

So, yeah…I’ve been a DB fan for a while. As a nearing-30 geek, I had high hopes, knowing this would be “based on” and not a direct adaptation (people hope for that crap way too often). Posters don’t say much. If I get good fight scenes, I’ll walk out less pissed that I spent the money. But, I’m guessing it’s going to blow. I hope I’m proved wrong.

  22. Gravatar

So this is the “Twilight” for little boys?

  23. Gravatar

i’m even more convinced than ever that this movie will be total dogshit.

  24. Gravatar

i bet this movie will make over 9000 dollars.

  25. Gravatar

and i’m sure well over 9000 people will see it.

  26. Gravatar

i’m sure this movie will receive over 9000 poor reviews.

  27. Gravatar

over 9000 parents will regret having children when this cinematic abomination comes out.

  28. Gravatar

i check slashfilm over 9000 times a day.

  29. Gravatar

how many times can i post in here? over 9000.

  30. Gravatar

steven seagal could pwn over 9000 n00bs.

  31. Gravatar

    UGH^

I don’t care, I’m still excited to see it. I can’t base whether its gonna fail or not based on posters and production photos. I wanna see some footage first—but still!!….I’m excited.

  32. Gravatar

i’m pretty sure that poster is shooped. i can see over 9000 of the pixels.

  33. Gravatar

    2009? that’s over 9000 hours away!

  34. Gravatar

How about 9000 hardcord supporters of this abomination joining the boycott after seeing this poster?

  35. Gravatar

let’s see if the greatest action cartoon of all time
can be greatest action movie of all time…………

  36. Gravatar

How can this movie possibly be good. They’re placing Goku, a boy who grew up in the mountains, in high school. He fights a bully called Carrey Fuller for Carey’s girlfriend Chi-Chi when in the true DB story, Chi-Chi only had eyes for Goku. Not to mention they casted the wimpiest/skinniest guy in Hollywood to play Goku. The casting is just as bad if not worse than the casting for Venom in Spider-Man 3.

Oh and did I mention James Wong, writer/director of crappy movies like Final Destination 3 and The One is writing and directing this movie? When will these movie companies get brains and realize this stuff can only work in animation or CGI.

  37. Gravatar

Fanboys need to relax a bit and realize that there is almost no conceivable way to replicate the anime series in one movie. If anything they should praise the differences and welcome the fact that they are creating a movie loosely based on the series, in order to bring more people to give the dragonball saga a chance. I don’t get how people flip the fuck out over something like this. It’s a movie. It didn’t magically erase all of the great memories you had of the show and replace them with memories of this movie. Give it a chance, accept the fact that its different, and get the fuck over it. You may have a family or friend or two want to watch the show with you now if they like the movie. who knows?

  38. Gravatar

^ Agreed, besides we can’t judge any movie based on pics and some posters. We can’t say if it’ll be good or bad, simply ’cause we don’t have enough info.
Dragonball ended more than 20 years ago, and who knows, maybe this movie could give it a new rise in popularity.
But still, we should at least wait for a trailer before dissing or approving the movie …

  39. Gravatar

I used to love this show…. :( I have no clue what to expect from this movie but I REALLY don’t like the plot changes they’ve made. I don’t care if they ‘adapt’ it for a movie, that’s fine with me. They just seem to have lost the feel of the Dragonball world.

  40. Gravatar

whooosh. this poster looks cool. u ppl will get used to this goku. im sure

  41. Gravatar

STOP KILLING MY CHILDHOOD, YOU EVIL BASTARDS

  42. Gravatar

    @ Patrick

My point exactly. You’re a prime example of a close-minded fool, any fanatic is a bad fanatic. Your comment is a waste of bandwidth.

  43. Gravatar

    @ a.j.

i see your point and get what you mean.
but from an artist’s perspective maybe, what do you think akira toriyama might think of this? as much as it’s true converging dbz page per page would be ridiculous on screen, it doesn’t mean that that’s license to ruin a franchise altogether.

my impression that this movie would suck still stands given what i’ve seen so far - with or without comparing it to the original.

  44. Gravatar

    Just watch Volcano High instead.

  45. Gravatar

you know im in the middle on this one. it totally looks gay and from what i heard about the storyline change makes me even more doubtful. im hoping im proven wrong, but doubt that too. eh damn it, i hate that it takes so little to fuck up a good thing. like mr. 9000 and the lost childhood guy, i dont think too much so far. posters decieve though, so lets see……

  46. Gravatar

    @AJ

Open minded people, in your definition, are the type that simply lets people shit all over them

  47. Gravatar

You people are saying this movie is gonna be bad based on what?
a few pictures, a leaked screenplay that may or may not be fake, and a few rumors…
I’m not saying this movie is going to be good, but neither bad; i understand the fear of Hollywood ruining DragonBall, but it is still too early to judge.
Wait for the trailer, and even go see the movie when it comes out, it wont be the same story we all know, it is an adaptation after all, but that doest mean its gonna suck.
We don’t have enough info to judge this movie, thats all i’m saying ;)

  48. Gravatar

One of the biggest jokes out regarding this flick is that people who said the casting won’t look bad started saying the official shots will be great when the set pictures were leaked, then when the official shots came out they began declaring the promotional graphics would be terrific, now that the posters are out they’re proceeding with saying the trailer would be amazing, and when the trailer gets released they will insist the actual movie would be the greatest adaptation of all times, only to end up jumping off cliffs in embarrassment when it got screened.

  49. Gravatar

A Japanese’s impression of this movie after seeing the poster:
    http://img.blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ybi/1/63/f8/takeshioekaki/folder/108146/img_108146_56285128_6?1217530317

  50. Gravatar

This movie should had never been made, if they are going to make a Dragonball movie, it should be in CG.

  51. Gravatar

I Agree with what most people are saying Goku in high school is pretty shit but theres no point in making the movie story exactly like the cartoon story otherwise we will all know the story line and what happens
so now we dont know what to expect i think we have to give a chance and as long as the fighing scenes are as good as the cartoons we’ve got a classic on our hands ;)

  52. Gravatar

    @AABBCC
But what’s the point of adapting a story if they aren’t going to keep anything Dragonball like they’re doing right now?

  53. Gravatar

justin chatwin ain’t even “buff,” how is he gonna play as goku?
