Warner Bros has released the first official teaser poster for the new Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man. Click on the poster below to see it in high resolution.
Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a man who signs up for a self-help program based on one simple principle: say yes to everything and anything. At first, unleashing the power of “yes” transforms Carl’s life in amazing and unexpected ways, but he soon discovers that opening up his life to endless possibilities can have its drawbacks. The movie also stars Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, Rhys Darby, John Michael Higgins, Danny Masterson, and Terence Stamp. It’s also interesting to note that the film’s official website will be located at YesIsTheNewNo.com.

i saw an interview with the guy who wrote this, based on when he did this. as soon as he decided to say yes to everything, he got a phone call from tele-sales selling windows. obviously he had to say yes! an the guy on the phone was so surprised tht sum1 actually said yes, he asked “is this a joke?” so luckily he got out of it by having to answer yes again!

I smell fail, epic fail.
Jim Carrey looses /film

@dan
kind of a reverse liar liar.
liar liar = at first lying makes his life worse then it gets better via his son.
yes man = at first saying yes makes his life better then most likely gets worse
Either way i think the last movie Carrey got my money from is Eternal Sunshine and it looks like its gonna stay that way.

Why do people still cast Zooey in movies? She’s an awful, awful actress.

No. Man.

@Coral
I know, she sucks! I watched The Happening a month ago I just wanted to kill her, she can’t act.

I personally can’t wait for that film he’s doing with Ewan McGregor. Give Carey interesting material like that and he’s gold otherwise it’s commercial garbage.

Zooey is great! She should have been Lois Lane.

This is going to be AWFUL !!! Do yourselves a favour and read the Danny Wallace book, it’s a non fiction diary account of his year saying yes. VERY VERY FUNNY I just can’t see how this is not going to be anything apart from an epic fail..
That said I want to see how they do the Hypno dog :)

How the hell can you people say this movie is gonna be “AWFUL” and suck when you haven’t seen a single video clip or trailer? Give me a break.
As for the claims that this is a Liar Liar clone, again I think you need to wait for a trailer. I honestly don’t see how this could be similar to Liar Liar considering its a different story and type of character. Everyone started saying how Get Smart seemed just like Johnny English (even after the trailers came out) and then when it came out it was nothing like it. People are too quick to judge.

In Liar Liar he was forced to tell everyone the truth and hilarity ensued; in this one, he will tell every one yes and hilarity ensues. It just seems very similar to me. Maybe not an exact “clone” but similar enough to me.

Tony - because they think the premise isn’t very inspiring/interesting. It’s a little unfair to judge a movie before having seen a clip/trailer but people will form an opinion from the information that’s available to them.
I think with Jim Carrey you’re generally guranteed a likeable character with good comedy and wit. Although different in their acting I tend to think of him and Will Smith as actors that can take an ‘average’ film and make it memorable/enjoyable because they bring something to a performance that gets passed the failings in a script.
It sounds like a decent movie. It’s not going to better Eternal Sunshine… but it seems like it would be very enjoyable for what it will be - a comedy with a bit of light-hearted humour, a reasonably novel promise and no doubt a message about good human values.

Carrey will start the movie as somewhat successful but feels disappointed with his life or has just faced a big disappointment (lost job, relationship, etc.). Something unusual happens (he can’t lie, gets the power of god, decides to yes all the time) and it transforms his life. Wacky, fun highjinks ensue for a while, then he realizes there are true, serious consequences. Ultimately, he learns an important lesson because of that unusual something. Carrey ends up a better person, gets the girl and/or respect from his son. There will be moments for Carrey to show off his crazy, talking-ass, twisted limbs and facial expressions humor, and a few moments of tender, “feel good movie of the year” pathos. I figure a $50 million dollar opening weekend and has staying power through the holidays. Carrey cashes his $20-30 million dollar check and looks for something quirky and interesting before doing another one of these films. Hopefully he’s learned to stay away from Joel Schumacher.

Actually, fstop18, Jim Carrey has received no money upfront for this film. Its been widely publicized that he will make $0 until the movie gets back all of its budget and other costs first.

@Tony, I think all that means is that he expects the formula to work. An LA Times article from April 21st talked about how Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas all did the same thing, didn’t take money upfront but took a percentage of the gross once box office benchmarks were met, and let’s face it, there was no doubt they would be met. Here’s info from the article (is html allowed here? I’ll try another time)…
“It’s good for both parties,” said media analyst Harold Vogel. “If the talent has a true belief in the movie, they are taking a little more risk by getting no significant compensation upfront but a much larger share of the ultimate profitability,” he explained. “It makes sense for studios, which are cash-constrained.”
With the economics of the movie industry becoming less lucrative in recent years, the studios would prefer to have talent shoulder more of the risk. One way is getting expensive stars, directors, writers and producers to defer their customary fees and forfeit their cut of box office dollars from the first ticket sold, known as first dollar gross.

JIM CARREY is the new EDDIE MURPHY!!!
his films SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the film is any near as good as the book, it should be a laugh. You people judge too quickly based on absolutely nothing. It’s too bad Danny Wallace didn’t play any part in the screenplay.

@Brianne, not to speak for everyone, but I think what people are reacting to is the likelihood of this being just another watered-down, formulaic, Hollywood movie that teaches us a sitcom-like lesson about how important family is or that you should believe in yourself or be happy with your life. As you pointed out, this film is based on an offbeat, funny, true story, but the book’s writer had nothing to do with the film. Most likely that means a movie studio bought the rights to the book and hired a screenwriter (or many) to write a film loosely based on the book (the saying “yes” to everything idea could be the only thing that remains) that fits what you would expect from a Jim Carrey movie released by a major studio at Christmas time. If the book didn’t have a love interest, it certainly does now.
There’s a book by John Gregory Dunne called “Monster: Living Off the Big Screen” about how he and his wife (Joan Didion) wrote the screenplay for the forgettable Robert Redford/Michelle Pfeiffer film “Up Close and Personal”. Touchstone bought the rights to make a film about Jessica Savitch, a prominent female news anchor in the 1970’s. Her life is a very dark story of failed marriages and relationships, and drug problems that even affected her on-air performances. She drowned in a car accident at the age of 36. Knowing all of this, Touchstone bought the rights anyway, but then decided that her life was too tragic and depressing, especially when major talents like Redford and Pfeiffer were becoming interested. What ended up on the screen, after 8 years of rewites, was a “Star Is Born” type love-story about a rising star and a falling talent that really had nothing to do with Jessica Savitch at all.
The point is that’s what can happen to interesting stories and ideas when they are turned into major films with major stars. Maybe that won’t happen in this case, but I don’t think I would bet on it not happening.
