This trailer looks amazing! Made go out and read the book. Just hope it motivates others to do the same. I think it looks great and should appeal to a wide audience.

Reading the book only made me want to see it more. Can’t wait fof March!

Btw, I hadn’t heard the song before but it works.

“The Beginning is the End is the Beginning” by the Smashing Pumpkins. Not to be confused with “The End is the Beginning is the End” which is the faster version with different lyrics used in Batman & Robin (I just threw up in my mouth a little).

Looks like they caught the look and feel, no doubt there. In fact, it looks SPOT ON (some characters actually feel less goofy, like Niteowl). The problem is whether the story would appeal to a broad audience on film. V For Vendetta was a lot simpler and that had to make do with a cult following, not wide audience approval. This trailer does not put across how incredibly wordy Watchmen is.

Then again, Dark Knight’s more edgy approach could help boost Watchmen. Still, I don’t know. Watchmen isn’t a superhero story. It’s a story about superheroes. Big difference. Will enough people watch it to justify the money it cost? But as a fan, does that matter?

I hope it does well. Then we must petition Schneider for a Lobo flic!

I’ve never heard of this before but when I first saw this before Dark Knight it looked awesome, even if I didn’t understand it at all. Combined with that song it almost gave me the chills.

Could someone tell me the basic premise of this movie?

without the fanboys….this won’t have a large viewing audience, to someone not familiar with the story, someone like me, this trailer is a huge mess….

perfect example of this: at the midnight showing of TDK the audience ERUPTED after the trailer, at 9:50pm on friday…..crickets. hate to say it, but if this film even remotely fails it could be the last movie the comic kids see of their dreams realized to 35mm (or imax i guess now)

alan moore’s name isn’t anywhere on this because he refuses to have anything to do with the movies that are based on his books. frankly, it wouldn’t matter how good or accurate the film was, so no, it’s not necessarily a bad sign that his name isn’t on the trailer.

the fact is that more people watch movies than read comics. it’s not that the story needs to be legitimized, but if the story is compelling enough, and you can do something to bring it to a larger audience, why not?

seriously, i have my doubts, but to call this movie out based on a very, very brief trailer is absolutely ridiculous.

p.s: hate on the smashing pumpkins all you want. for this trailer it works.

Kinda looks like they missed the point. It looks beautiful–they just recreated all of Gibbons’ artwork for the movie–but it just looks like the same action-packed superhero movie we’ve all seen before. I kinda feel like Watchmen was told in the perfect medium already: comics. Why do we feel the need to recreate comics panel by panel? It’s like they’re not legitimate unless someone makes them into a movie. Also, why go through all the trouble of recreating 1985 manhattan and use a crappy contemporary smashing pumpkins song in the soundtrack?

Anyone notice that you can’t find Alan Moore’s name anywhere on this? In the credits below the trailer it just says “Based on the Graphic Novel Illustrated by Dave Gibbons.” Bad sign.

holy shit, I never expected they’d show us so much. I thought they would save showing Mr. Manhattan for a later date but he’s shown a lot in the trailer, even his creation. I am definitely excited for this movie now.

I’ve got to say this trailer makes me really excited at seeing this realised just how it should be.

I think Snyder did a good job in translating the 300 movie from artwork to celluloid. Although it’s true to say I never read 300 a special feature on the DVD I have showed the relevant art work related to a scene from a movie. I felt his eye for translating the image on the page to film was very good.

Also from some previous shots I’ve seen on the net (Newspaper vendor and comic book reader, come to mind) look like good representations of the artwork.

When I saw this trailer I just thought “this is exactly like the book” and I can say I feel the imagery is just right (althought I agree aboud Ozymandias being the only costume that didn’t feel right).

Now we have to hope that the narrative remains strong.

Saw this before The Dark Knight in IMAX. I’ve never read Watchmen, but I knew a movie was being made. I completely forgot that Zack Snyder was directing it, but even before that text came on screen, I was really intrigued by the trailer. Looks really good, and I’m definitely going to have to see it.
