4,591 Internet Movie Database users have already rated The Dark Knight, which currently sits at a 9.7 out of 10 (or a 9.0 out of 10 from regular IMDb voters). That puts Nolan’s sequel at the #4 movie of all time slot on IMDb’s top 250. It will be interesting to see how this rating holds are a bigger sampling of users register their votes.
This is the second movie this year to open extremely high on IMDb. The other being WALL-E, which earned a 9.3 average user rating (5,300 votes), earning itself the #9 position on the coveted list. Three weeks and 33,000 votes later, WALL-E is holding steady at a 8.8 rating, good for a #22 placement on IMDb’s charts.
The Dark Knight is also highly reviewed, earning a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 154 reviews. This puts the film as the second best wide release of 2008, under only WALL-E (with a 97% rating). Again, it will be interesting to see how this holds up as more reviews come in. However, I only expect 50-60 more reviews.

why are all the NY critics hating on this film?
July 18th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Jank -
Probably cause it was filmed in Chicago and not NYC.

@ peter
in about 3 hours, i think i’ll be joining you in dethroning spider-man 2 from the top slot as my all time favorite comic book film.
i’m curious though, why so many people are saying it’s one of the ‘greatest comic book films’, but won’t say it’s one of our ‘greatest films’… i guess time could change that? either way, over the past year or so, i think TDK has become more than just 2 1/2 hours in a theater, and that’s an accomplishment on its own.

If this movie makes $500 million domestically, I will bite into my own forearm.

Just got home and I have to say it lived up too or beyond the hype for me.
Joker’s magic trick when he meets with the criminals was great. Heath’s Joker is amazing, it made you lean forward in your seat to see what he did next.
Aaron Eckhart’s Harvey Dent/Two-Face was really good as well.
A good mixture of action, drama, suspense and a little comedy. The truck stunt was probably one of the many highlights that stood out.

I too, just got back from the midnight showing (after washing off the joker make-up). Easily one of my favorite movies of all time. This film was simply astounding. Performances from all the actors were great, especially Ledger - One of the most original takes on an established character. The trailers didn’t even show half of the brilliance that his performance was. My expectations were greatly exceeded on all levels.

Went to the 12:05 showing in Hanover, MD.. was packed, sold out. Got there at 12:04 and had to sit front row.. but even that couldnt ruin this movie. Right off the bat probably top 5 movie all-time Ive seen. Its nearly 3 hrs long, but it goes so fast because its just that good. I agree with the guy who said he loved the Jokers “magic trick” .. all I can say is “and its gooone” lol..classic. This may come off as rude or ignorant and I dont mean that in any way, but after seeing Ledgers performance it makes it just a little more sadder he died. He truely was a GREAT actor..and he proved it and cemented his legacy with this movie..absoluetly fantastic.. highly recommend, although not for children.

I’ve never seen a movie opening in IMAX so packed with people and i’ve never seen people dress up for a movie since harry potter and star wars.
The movie was epic, well written, full of great twists and was was to watch. I wish it was longer. Yep, it’s 6:45 AM. goodnight.

You have to hand it to the fanboys for getting online and voting before seeing a movie (and then again after seeing it at midnight). Big ups on the dedication.
(But seriously… come on.)
