I love all of Aronofsky's work.... and that's why I wish he'd stay far away from this type of studio work.

Go back to being a writer/director of your inspiration and leave these studio reboot/sequels(unless it's your franchise) to the hacks that deserve them.

You know what would be cool? If DC released animated versions of the Batmans that never were.... Aronofoskys Year One... Burtons 3.

Even Joels Triumphant.

It'd be really cool if this was both set in Detroit and filmed there - after all, the Michigan state legislature just passed some new legislation aimed at making it cheaper for film crews to make movies here.

Aronofosky should definitely do this. I think this project would be a waste of time if they do anything besides indie director + R rating.

And on a sidenote, I'd love them to film this new RoboCop in Dallas like the first one. Extra time!

Um.........how can this new movie take place in the "present day", if it is set 20 years AFTER the first Robocop movies, and those took place in the future????????????????

I'm fine with a sequel, the original is just too much of a classic. As long as this version has the same score I'm all in.

Wonder if they could at least fit Murphy in a cameo?

"...The PG-13 RoboCop 3 notwithstanding, Detroit is still Detroit, after all." Looks like Detroit is actually Los Angeles now. heh...

But in all seriousness, I think a sequel set 20 years after the end of the Robocop program is effectively a re-boot anyway. Robocop took place in the future, so, this is the future of the future. With the kind of CG that'll be possible for a movie coming out in 2010, and a director like Arnofsky, it'll be sweet.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the fountain. love stories randomly thrown in sci-fi movies don't bother me much, because its nearly impossible to see a hollywood movie -at all- these days without an extraneous love story wiggled in. It was well acted, had a cool concept centering around the fountain of youth in 3 different periods, and had some great visuals in the form of the nebulous space backdrops.

Hunter,

Yeah I wonder how much it would have changed though. Since it happened to The Fountain as well. Batman does need a big budget. So I'm not sure. But it seemed like Aranofsky's take was a lot more "organic" in design.

If he does direct this Robocop "sequel" then I'm game.

@ CA

My understanding of Aronofsky's take (obviously based on Miller/Mazzucchelli's comic, one of my faves) was that it would have had a budget of $20 million (imagine), an R-rating, and Batman would have been stripped of most, if not all, of his tech - even for his rookie year. It was described as a "detective story," and maybe I'm delusional, but I recall Aronofsky pitching a scene(s) in which Batman ventured through the subway system late at night like a fucked up vampire.
