Remember that pointless School of Rock sequel we warned you about a couple weeks ago? Well it’s happening. Paramount Pictures has signed Jack Black to reprise his role as Dewey Finn in School of Rock 2: America Rocks. According to Variety, Mike White’s script follows Finn leading a group of summer school students on a cross-country field trip that “delves into the history of rock ‘n’ roll and explores the roots of blues, rap, country and other genres.” I want to believe that this is something more than just a money grab. I want to believe that White and director Richard Linklater, who is also signed on to return, returned because of the story and not just a bundle of cash.

Discuss: Now that you’ve had the chance to read a short plot synopsis, is there any chance School of Rock 2 might be a worthy sequel?

Could be better than the first?

Maybe? I dunno, I kinda like Jack Black, and tend to give his movies at least one watch.

    Fuck. That is all.

Sounds like a sequel that Steve Martin would do now.

Hopefully there is somrhing good in That.

Rap? Oh no. Thats going to lead to the inevitable Jack Raps scene.

    No. Simply no.

The idea at first sounds cringeworthy, but the first film was a pleasant experience — no insane swearing or bathroom humor (which is hard to get away from in this genre) and it had some genuine charm too. If this film can replicate that, well, rock on.

Now that I heard the plot it sounds like it MAY be good, but it’s still stupid that they’re making this at all.

this is aweosme school of rock is the best movie ever made and jack black role as dewey finn is his best character he has ever done

With White writing the script and Linklater directing, it could be good. I’d rather see those two collaborate with Jack Black on a completely new project, but this could be good. I liked the first movie a lot. And it’s rare that I like a movie with so many kids in it. Usually movies with kids devolve into a massive cutefest without any substance, but White wrote the kids as real characters. If it were a different writer and director on board the sequel, I’d avoid it all costs, but I’ll give it a chance with White, Linklater, and Black on the project.

NO!!! Leave that movie alone! It’s a classic!

You can’t plan a sequel to an awesome film like “Juno” or “The Goonies.”

sometimes there are movies that are so great by itself that they should NOT have sequels. that’s why we dont have “Casablanca part 2,” or “All about Eve, part 2″ either!!

Are they going to use the same kids, or get new ones? The kids they used in the first one must be about 17 or 18 by now.

You had me at “White, Linklater, and Black are all signed on to return”.

I’m down. I adore the first one.

    Here’s something to consider:

Jack Black is at the top of his game right now. Kung Fu Panda, working with Robert Downey JR in Tropic Thunder, the man is going places.

He doesn’t NEED to reprise his role. If he has agreed to it, my hope is because Mike White has penned a great script and made it worth going back.

    Here’s hoping.

Well Peter, I guess I’d have to answer your question with a question: Was the first School of Rock really necessary?

  17. Gravatar

the first one was golden. no need for a sequel. if they screw this up, i will never forgive them. They need to have like, a famous rock star in here, like steven tyler from aerosmith.

  18. Gravatar

i heard that on the trip they are gonna run into joey gaydos jr.(zach) and kevin clark(freddy) and they are gonna be a band

  19. Gravatar

no they are not about 17 or 18 the oldest one is like 16

  20. Gravatar

I dont no, but i don’t feel like meeting new kids, i like the 1s that acted in School of Rock 1

  21. Gravatar

I dont no, but i don’t feel like meeting new kids, i like the 1s that acted in School of Rock 1. R they going 2 be new kids in School of Rock 2?

  22. Gravatar

OOps sorry about the double message, my computer lagged :(

  23. Gravatar

I dont know. The original was AWESOME! And lately, all the sequels have been horrible. But if they can truly make a good film, then go ahead.

  24. Gravatar

ummm this movie is nothing without the kids. they need to get the original band back together or i won’t go to see this!

  25. Gravatar

i cant wait for this movie! the first one is one of my favourite films of all time, its absolutely hilarious :D I will be seeing this the first day it comes out!!! :D

  26. Gravatar

the oldest one is 19(Kevin) and the youngest is 15(Miranda).

This film is great and i dunno whats gonna happen in the second one but. IT BETTER BE GOOD!

  27. Gravatar

I’m only 18 and they are ALL younger than me so Kevin can’t be 19
they filmed the first movie in ‘02-’03 and on the kids commentary
they said that they were all ages 9 to 12 and by the way Robert is the oldest one and he was 12 when they shot the first movie I was 13 when they made it I’m 18 now but you are right Miranda is the youngest at 15 Kevin is only 2 years older so he’s 17 not 19
