Cheetara is pissed! The image on the upper left is from a staff T-shirt given to an AVATAR crew member by actor Sam Worthington. This is apparently the first look at the alien race called Na’vi in James Cameron’s 2009 3D Movie (that Will Eat the World). In the film, Na’vi live on a planet called Pandora and they’re described as a “humanoid race with its own rich language and culture.” Marketsaw scored the image. Let’s do some bullet points…

  • The Na’vi specimen has six camel toes.
  • It has a cat-like tail, unless that’s some type of organ.
  • It apparently has two little horns or two little ears. Somebody’s going to make the first AVATAR LOLcat in the comments. Oh god.
  • Supermodelish figure and hair recall Cheetara from Thundercats
  • It is carrying a bow-and-arrow.
  • Shoulder pads. It’s the future.
  • 5th grader fantasy alert.

In the film a paraplegic Earthling/ex-marine teams with the Na’vi to defend their planet from other Earthlings who want to exploit its natural resources. Now, the logline is already pretty bizarre if you ask me, so I’m not going to flip on the image. However, I’m not a fan of tribal tattoos and the accompanying T-shirt graphic below really frightens me. Is that the logo of the most revolutionary movie since Citizen Kane or the logo for a nu-metal band that your first roommate in college is obsessed with?

Discuss: What do you think of the first Na’vi image from AVATAR? Should we keep typing AVATAR in all-caps to emphasize its intergalactic domination over all movies ever?

  • Matt H
Maybe I'm a little weird... but that logo looks like ovaries.
  • tuesgone
Totally agree...by a female who knows.
  • Matt
Looks like Ziggy Stardust to me.
  • Matt H
Ah. My evil twin Matt. We meet again.
  • edward
    it's a silhouette hunter, that's just too easy. you're overreacting :c
  • good grief, let's hope this is the work of some dude at the back table of the art department who was hung over from the party the night before and forgot the art for the t-shirt needed to be at the printers in 10 minutes!
  • Webb
    hahaha 6 camel toes.
  • REAL6
    5 Hymens
  • J.D.
Matt H is right. First thing I saw in the tattoo was the female reproduction tract. The alien planet is probably all female.
  • Matt
The 'tail' could actually be an arm...but that'd be just silly.

Avatar is not going to eat the world, it's not a "timeless romance" like Titanic was, it's a freaking sci-fi movie.
  • IAmTheBatman
    I can haz cheeseburger?

    Also Six Camel toes? WTF?
  • cogezek
    they're more like...moose...knuckles...don't you think?
  • Why do the aliens from such a "revolutionary sci-fi" look like supermodels with different colored skin and/or tails and pointy ears? Have we really not grown since the original Star Trek? Like, at all?
  • Steelo
"Let go of your hate Luke"
  • Reminds me of the Snakes on a Plane poster to be honest:

I'm kinda old, er, slow. Yeah thats what I meant to say. Just heard of this today. I LOVE 3D Remember seeing the first Friday the 13th back in 80'. Off subject, kind of, I remember seeing" Earthquake" when it first came out in theaters when I was a kid. The movie, if the theater was equipped, came out w/ a rumble feature whereas every time the screen showed the quake damage, you could feel it on the seat. Too cool, but expensive much? Haven't heard of that being around since.
  • tuesgone62
I forgot something, for those of you who didn't know, the first Friday-13th was in 3D. There, I feel better now.
  • Joe
something tells me i'd hit it
  • @ s mcgruff

no man, don't you know anything about marketing? the important thing to do is to talk about how amazing your movie is going to be so you don't have to do that. it's about taunting the audience for as long as you can, dangling the carrot just out of your reach so when it's time to drop this (possible) stinker, the audience will delude themselves into believing that all that waiting wasn't pointless.

i haven't heard anything about this movie that hasn't convinced me that this won't be anything but a fancy tech demo. i don't think i've heard of a movie so hyped based on the technology that''s going into making it since 'final fantasy: the spirits within'. even with a great cast, i really don't think this will be a particularly great film.
  • Tom
The hype on this film IS a little too much. People on IMDB message board already discussing how many oscars the film is going to bring in, please....

Still cant wait for it though
  • That looks just... Bad.
  • Graham
the only reason titanic made as much as it did was because it had pg 13 boobs
  • S McGruff
aaron, i definitely get the reason for not releasing any stills. i mean seriously, the movie is over a year away- i doubt we get anything for at least another 4 or 5 months.
  • Captain Awesome
haha, I love the comments regarding the design when all you see is a "silhouette". Yet, it's not even confirmed that this is even the actual final design of the alien itself.

If I we're Cameron, I would do just about anything to stave off any media circulating for these guys. And even fuck with the general public. Isn't it general knowledge that just about every big project does something like this?
  • Aaron
Bah! There's another Aaron too! An evil twn? Or the better half?
  • 790
I see a little of Boba Fetts. Mammouth tusk emblem there.

This film dosnt do anything for me. The fact that its 3D, only confirms I won't see it.

There talking about Oscsar for this on IMDB, what you talkin bout Willis ?
  • oh. i guess i'll be the evil twin. i've always wanted to be the evil twin. if it makes things easier, you can refer to me as lowercase aaron.
  • gocitizen
Cameron is one of the only "high level" directors that writes his own stuff. I give him every credit and every chance to try something that might fail. Forget about the tech stuff. It's pretty irrelevent. We're getting a sci-fi movie created by one of the guys that does this sort of thing better than most anyone else.

Relax on the sillouette image of something that may or may not be relevent to the film.
  • Captain Awesome
    Pretty much what gocitizen said.
  • Luke
This is James Cameron, folks. Even if these Na'Vi do remind you all of Thundercats or whatever now, they will be completely awesome on screen next year. I bet you anything. Of course, since this is James Cameron, we really shouldn't get our hopes up. In fact, we should all be going into Avatar with a little bit of fear and skepticism. That's how I went into see Titanic and guess what, it's now the most successful film of all time (without adjusting for inflation of course). Cross your fingers, everyone. This could be the new 2001 we've been waiting for.
  • My guess = in the literal sense, it's an avatar of one of the leads.
  • 790
I hear ya Luke, but I think Camerons lost it.

    Well see ????
  • Captain Awesome
I don't think Cameron's lost it. I mean while he did leave sci-fi for a bit. He still has been keeping himself busy.

After all these years of horrible sci-fi and shitfests like AVP. I welcome him back with open arms.
  • 790
Well Captain Awesome I hear ya, but its been 17 years since T2, his last great film , I don't GAS about Titanic...... Sorry that was the chickflick phase of Cameron's career (IMO).
After that he fell in love with the Ocean and made a few underwater films that also I couldn't GAS about.
Now from what I can tell he's (in gaga love with 3D) putting together this fantasy film based on aliens that look like extras from (Cats).
It just makes me cringe is all........ :-)
  • LOL
    I can haz too hornz?
  • TitanSink
This movie is going to bomb so bad ...
