Personally, I’ve loved The Dark Knight’s viral marketing campaign, but I’ve heard a lot of people complain that it is a big waste of time. Well guess what? The viral participants have finally gotten their reward - to see The Dark Knight early. That’s right, a viral e-mail was sent out from the WhySoSerious website alerting viral gamers that they could attend a free IMAX screening in one of 24 theaters on Tuesday night. Within an hour, all the free tickets were sold out. Have fun guys! You deserve it. It’s great to see that Warner Bros is rewarding the hardcore fan.

I've read people say that school ID's do count. They care about your face and your name on an ID. UNIVERSAL IMAX, HERE I COME!

Don't forget you can bring a friend!

Thanks for saying that we deserve it Peter. You know, for almost 2 years now I've been following this Viral Campaign in some way or another. I did incredible and oft times embarrassing things to follow it. There were even times when my marriage was on teetering because I obsessed over this ARG.

Well come last night most of the followers of this game thought we might get, at the very most the Prequel for download. As the time got closer to 10:00 PM EST most of us had made peace with ourselves thinking that whatever the Joker gives us as a reward it will be good enough for us, however lame or silly it might be. The advanced screening lingered in our minds but it was a pipe dream we all shared from the very beginning.

When 10:00 PM EST rolled over to the following minutes and we saw a link to citizensforbatman.org, some of our predictions were realized about the Bat-signal in both Chicago and New York being defaced by the Joker. Little did we know that the Joker had "Jokerized" every single Viral website unrelated to him and left in each a puzzle piece.

Well we all followed and finally cracked the anagram and now I can proudly say that yes, "I followed the viral" and I got a chance to see this movie 3 days before release in IMAX no less. Again, thank you for saying that we deserve it. I think we fans, we true fans, really do.

I thought it was one of the more creative viral campaigns for a film, ever. The only other one that comes to mind is the genius one Trent Reznor orchestrated for the release of Year Zero.

But they did such a creative job with this that it made the film spill into the real world. And it worked out really well. I'm glad to see the hardcore fans got rewarded with such an amazing gift for sticking with it.

I wish I could have done it :\

They have Grand Rapids, Omaha, and Edmonton, but not DC? Glad I didn't waste my time.

Well ive created groups on facebook surrounding The Dark Knight, spent almost all my earning from a small store i work at on Dark Knight memorabilia (primarily items surrounded around Heath Ledger's Brilliant Joker), ive driven many hours to have a chance to rally in the Dent campaign, and received almost all the viral gifts in the mail. To find out that i was the last person to have been able to receive a ticket for my city's Dark Knight pre-screening this Tuesday right before they sold out there along with every other city, well i feel blessed, Peter i share the same appreciation for Warner Bros. giving us hardcore fans this opportunity and excitement.

this is a great end to a great viral game finally a game where you get more than just a backstory, in that note i will play along next time and hope that this becomes a trend with movies

Excellent end to an excellent viral campaign. Gotta love how the Joker defaced every single site within the ARG. Kudos to WB for being so creative and rewarding that fans.

In the eternal words of the prisoner from Monty Python's The Life of Brian... "You lucky bastards!"
  • I found out 2 hours too late. I'm crushed, but I'll survive... and I'm going to dress up as the Joker and show up to the Tuesday night screening hoping beyond hope, someone has come alone and wouldn't mind letting in a fellow joker.

This breaks my heart. I really need to get the internet at my house.
  • Oh dammit. There's a screening in my city.

Now I wish I had done this..
  • Damn.. no more in Orlando, that what I get for not sitting in front of my computer refreshing the web page at a constant rate for 8 hours strait... Ah... to live and learn...

I got an email, went to the site, but was too late for the San Diego viewing. This was about 15 minutes after the email went out. I am still sad.

    This is bull.

After the viral campaign officially ends, I'd like to know how much was spent by Warner Brothers on it.

What about the phone call? At work I checked my phone, one missed call, i checked out the number and it was 000-000-0000. "Fuck, it's Harvey Dent."

Got a call again on my way home. Seemed to be a live news report about traffic being subverted (presumably due to the bank robbery at the beginning of the film).
  • I totally got the phone call today too at 5:43 pm central time. Something was mentioned about 2 days left? Think there are any clues with it?
  • Dave
    No DC/NoVa showing, huh?

I guess it's a good thing I already got my tix for the Udvar-Hazy IMAX on Friday...
