i enjoyed superman returns, and think singer is competent enough to warracnt a second movie. yeah, the whole super-kid thing was lame, not really needed, but would love to see a sequel.

i agree 100% that they should let singer do his thing, plus i like routh in the role. we gotta remember this is the guy who gave us X2 - that alone should be all that needs to be said.

i've been wondering lately how many upcoming comic films are gonna try and duplicate the essence of TDK. i can see favreau & IM2 being the most guilty of that.

Hmmm... even though I enjoyed the Incredible Hulk Leterrier isn't exactly competent when it to human moments... and Superman,despite being about a flying super alien, is a human tale.

I think Brian Singer really nuked the fridge with Superman Returns and I would not want him to make a sequel. I know it would never happen but I wish he could take a mulligan and just go reboot it again. Most of my gripes come from Superlad and the horrible Kate Bosworth(who actually thought she'd be right? I'm used to Lois having balls... metaphorically speaking.

Still I'd rather see Singer try to dig himself out than see Leterrier directing anything.

PS - Chances are Leterrier hasn't been spoken to but he's hoping after making that 'slip' that it will create some sort of buzz that will actually result in getting him a phone call.

I was kind of mixed on Superman Returns...
I liked the tone of the film, and the non-traditional beginning.
I did not like alot of the storyline (super-kid, an evil plot involving real-estate sales on an island made of crystals, etc.).
It was good, but not great.

I would like to see Singer come back for a second one... like he did with X2, that turned out to be alot better than the first.
And next time, let's hope Bret Ratner doesn't get involved.

Anyway, i want routh back and Singer would be nice too. But Routh is more important. it scares me who they might hire if they recast. Routh is good, so keep him.

Bring back Singer, but with added action in the sequel, as has been promised. And definitely bring Routh back. He did an excellent job.

I liked the essence behind SR, and I'd love to have both Singer and Routh back, and be an all out action flick like he said he promised. The man's word is good we know that. Let him work his magic!

SINGER, he may have missed the mark on SR for the fans. But knowing now what the fans want Singer is 'more then capable' of bringing action and perhaps a darker sequel. Just look and his body of work on IMBD.

Truth must be told:
Superman Returns is a beautiful movie.

Most people who didn't like it, is because of the lack of action scenes. But the movie wonderfully written and directed.

Singer needed to make a reason for continue the storyline of Superman 1 and 2, and that was the best way possible.

I think he knows that the mass people want more action, and i know he is able to do that.

SINGER MUST STAY!!!! If some director like Michael Bay ou McG take over the film...... NIPPLE SUIT is what comes in my mind.

Oh, please. No reboot. Let Singer learn from his mistakes and give us a better Superman film, the X2 equivalent of the franchise (or better) with Routh in the role. I'd rather see Singer up the ante, which we've seen him do, than see Leterrier struggle with the heart of the film.

It's time to give Superman his reboot in Superman Begins. It's been 30 years since the last one. It is looooong overdue. Nobody is enthused about seeing a Singer sequel anyway. They never talk about Returns anymore, except to diss it and always make faces whenever a possible sequel is brought up. Might as well reboot it and try to get the public excited instead of apathetic. Sadly, I just don't see all the people who hated or didn't care for Returns showing up for its sequel.

I don't want Superman's next film to be an outright bomb following on the heels of Returns' disappointment. A double blow like that will put Superman down for the next 20 years.

While we all loved what Singer did with the X-Men films there is not much room for any argument that he totally hooped the Superman franchise. There is no excusing the Superbaby. That was ridiculous. Lois Lane was waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too young to be in that role, and aping the tone of the Donner Films left the movie feeling hollow. I am all for a reboot that actually has a Superman film with some tension and god forbid he should actually fight an actual supervillain instead of Kevin Spacey doing an impression of Gene Hackman. Lex Luthor hires goons? Really? That was a good idea? Singer needs the boot and they need new blood.

Bryan Singer needs kicked in the junk for ruining the Superman movie, did we really need another Lex Luthor tale? Its apparent Bryan has no idea or that script wouldnt have been such a mess! All these ideas all over the place and the child? Yea, kick him in the junk, he deserves it!

There were some things I liked in Returns, the airplane rescue scene was pretty phenomenal. Some minor things here and there. And I actually think Brandon Routh did a decent job as the man of steel considering the script, he was doomed from the onset.

I think a reboot is in order, ojh and to the X2 fans... you did watch the movie right? Why are we singing Bryan Singers praises for that?

i'm starting to get fucking sick of this "reboot" shit. like someone else said, let superman actually fight a villain who at least feels like a real threat. nothing against lex luthor, but there are other superman villains out there who could offer not just great action scenes, but also a great dynamic. plus, there's a lot more leeway with the superman series as far as suspension of disbelief goes. i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to include more of the "ridiculous" super villains to create a real sense of tension.

i didnt like Superman Returns, I also agree with arron, they really need a better villain than Lex Luther.

i agree with evan..i mean,there was at least decades that past before a movie was remade..hell sometime even before a sequal was made.they rebooted hulk and now they wanna do it with this?i know they rebooted batman but that was done in the late 80's.next thing you know,every movie that sucked or half sucked is gona want a do over..like the first one was just practice or something.i guess with todays technology in film,some companies want to see what they can do to make a movie previously released.. better.lets just hope that street fighter movie they're making is better then the first.lol anyway,i say let Singer do his thing again and just make it a sequal.i did enjoy the visual of superman returns and,yes some of the plot was corny but you can't always blame the director.they can only make what was givin to them..just like some good actors are givin bad raps for movies they play in that are just written poorly.

I've a seen plenty of people here that actually liked the film. I want to say that I respect your opinion, but I don't understand it, so if any of you would be kind enough to tell me, with good reasons why you think Superman Returns was good, maybe I'll understand better what're you thinking. I really want to know.

In my opinion, as well as most people I know, the movie was bad. Not because it lack action, but because of the non-canonical ridiculous main plots (the kid, weak Lois, the crystal island stuff, etc.) Also I think that Supes lifting a Kryptonite island was entirely ridiculous. Isn't this the same thing that just small piece of it, not even touching him but only close to him can hurt/kill him? Overall I think the script was lame.

Also, I think Kate Bosworth is not a very good actress, and I think she did a bad job in this movie, specially. Plus, the Lois interpretation that she was given to her to play didn't help her either. So please, do not recast her. Put 60 years old Margot Kidder again before recasting her!

Routh has to stay period.(period twice :D)

5 Supes movies with Lex, I think that's enough. Also people, please stop blaming Spacey for his interpretation, that's what he was ask to do, he only did his job. I think he's a good actor and he could have done something better if he was given something better.

And last but not least, Singer. If he doesn't do the main writing of the script I think he can come back, but if he does I hope he reads some Action and Superman before he does it. Also he needs to forget about the other movies, that was the 70s and 80s, we're in the 2000's, he needs to adapt and make a more 3D character, more appealing.

It's been three decades - 30+ years since the last Superman reboot. It's long past time. Superman deserves no less than the respect Batman got with his reboot in Batman Begins.

Perhaps Fincher can match Nolan's reboot with Superman. He's not opposed to genre stuff.

Bring Singer back for the sequel. No question.

And get one talented effects studio to do the CG this time. Don't farm it out to a bunch of second raters. Get Weta or the top ILM guys to work on it.

I too am torn. Where I was dissapointed with Superman Returns, I was not dissapointed by the performance of Brandon Routh (who I believe is a close second to the true Superman, Mr. Christopher Reeves.), I totally enjoyed his protrayl. It was Kate Boseworth, that awful offspring that he calls a kid, recycled real estate plot and the overabundance of CGI. The 1978 movie did a great job without any of those tricks and I still get choked up with pride when I watch it; they did not need the CGI on a lot of those shots, I can understand the need for the CGI cape in some scenes. Let's be real; come on, a full CGI Superman waving to us as he flys over the ocean?

I would have gone with letting Singer continue, but then I'm just afraid he's going to be continuing the tale of Super-Ba$tard (the kid) and another re-hashed plot. Let's let Leterrier take the reigns and bring this movie franchise back to the ground and not up in skies where folks with over-inflated egos (cough, Singer) can see the same vision of Superman.

The Bruce Timm Supes cartoon from the late 90's, thats how you do a Superman flick. You get the Parasite or Metallo, you leave Lex in the background stewing and plotting for the whole flick. I want an actual evil Lex in the next one, not some hammy campy bullshit like what Spacey delivered. I want a cold calculating manipulative son of a bitch business man, Lex is more Gordon Gecko than anything else. I want to see his paranoia about Supes being an alien and his desire to be Metropolis' favorite son. That Luthor mini series from a couple years ago, that's the perfect tone for Lex. And get a tougher looking actor in that role, someone with a presence, personally I would I think Bruce Willis, or a bald Kurt Russell could give Lex the edge he needs.

Also, Metropolis, can we please have the city semi futuristic like it is in the comics. I don't want to see any more of this nostalgic retro 50's shit that we've seen in the last movie. Its should be a beacon for the future not a stroll down memory lane.

I'm fine with bringing Routh back, but I would like them to bulk him up a little more, he was a little too slight in Returns and Supes needs some presence. If they decided to not bring Routh back, I'd love to see a Supes that's more in tone with how Alex Ross has painted him, a more stout figure.

Warner's has painted themselves in a corner with the poor plot choices from the last film, they can't just recast, they have to reboot to get rid of the Super Baby, and in order to give Superman a proper backstory, one where he wasn't a selfish ass who ditched humanity for years to go look for rocks in space, and no super-daddy!

It does suck to talk about a reboot just a couple years after a movie is released but they really did screw it up IMO. I say let Singer go he had the Superman movie he dreamed of and it sucked so I say let someone else take it on. Maybe Leterrier could do a good job who knows just as long as it isn't Singer.

Superman is a hard character to write for everyone knows that, he is basically a god on Earth so they really need to step it up with the villains. They can do plenty with his "humanity" without turning him into home wrecking stalker with an illegitimate son ...

While I did like Superman Returns (mostly for the Lois and Clark dynamic, not the Lex Luthor stuff, which was junk), I've always felt it was a mistake to make a sequel rather than a reboot of the franchise. While I haven't watched through the original films in their entirety before, it is my understand that after the first movie they get rather ridiculous, and I'm just not sure why you would want to try and build on a foundation that is already unstable.

Of course, the fact that we've just recently had a Superman movie probably precludes the possibility of the next Superman, even if it were to be a great reboot, becoming epic and iconic like it's 70's counterparts. It's just too soon.

I'd prefer Singer stay and Leterrier go do something else... like, antiquing.

Singer can do this now that he isn't under the crutch of having to focus on Lex Luthor. Lex is a terrific character for comics (and even the increasingly boring Smallville) but not a film which has to include a complete story arc in two hours.

All of you seem to forget what Singer delivered with X2. Look, he knows the mistakes he made with SR, he's come out and said he's giving us the film we want several times. He said hes going to make the action bigger, modernize it, pay less homage, and really make a great film. So I trust he'll handle it well.

All the Singer fans seem to want to turn him into a studio hack. He had complete creative freedom and gave his vision in Superman Returns. If he is on the sequel it's as studio yes-man since the WB execs will be dictating everything, from script, to tone, to set design, to casting and cutting the budget in half on top of it all. It's X-Men 3 all over again. Whoever is helming the sequel will be pure studio puppet with the execs pulling the strings every step of the way.

Ang Lee went from commercial disappointment to Oscar winning Best Director and kept his pride and his reputation. Singer won't be on the sequel because he has too much self-respect to be the next Brett Ratner. Once the stigma of Studio Hack gets stuck to him, he'd never recover. Dreams of following in Ang Lee's footsteps will be dead.

Anyone who cared about Brian Singer as a person or as an artist, more than some made up comicbook character, would want him off this sequel. Selfish geeks need to remember, Superman isn't real but Brian Singer is, and he needs to be far away from this studio-dictated sequel. Selfish geeks urging Brian Singer into becoming Brett Ratner is a repulsive spectacle.

I fail to understand how anyone could give SR a favorable mention. This movie failed in so many areas it still making my head spin. Definitely one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my 42 yrs. The plot/storyline was worst than awful. Casting was such a huge failure. And Brian Singer.... totally blew it. I don't give a rat's a** about Brian Singer's interpretation of what he believes Superman is. I want the iconic superhero I grew up with. Not the superman that singer had the audacity to place his own personal stamp to. The suit was horrible, actually resembling a plastic shower curtain as a cape. And Brandon Routh was terrible. He is nothing more than a 2nd rate soap opera actor. He in no way resembled the man of steel. Although, the only thing he had working for him was the christopher reeves impersonation. Reboot the franchise!!! Give us a new superman deserving of us fans! I was a huge fan of the christopher reeves superman, but not his clone. Kick Brian singer to the curb, recast and reboot. I know I swear not to pay one single cent to another brian singer/brandon routh superman sequel!

I remember the day when I went to see Superman Returns. I was so full of excitement and anticipation. Then the opening credit sequence started to roll. I knew from that point, watching the dodgy cgi tour of space and planets, that this was going to be less than awsome. The first time I heard a recycled line, I laughed and thought, ok, nice nostalgic tip of the hat to Donner's movies. But it didn't stop! The recycled lines kept coming!!

The action was dull, slow boring. The acting was uninspired and wooden and putting superman in a hospital bed, complete with visiting times for his nearest and dearest (Lois Lane-but not his poor mum) just hammered the final nail into the coffin.

Superman Returns was a crap, ego trip for Singer. Nothing about it bears any hint of originality and well thought out film making.

1:) I say get rid of Singer. He had his chance and screwed up big-time. Who gives a rats ass if he made the Usual Suspects and X-Men. X-men 1 and 2 sucked of mediocreness anyway, and he still screwed up Superman.

Get a director who understands action and how to use the characters supporting cast and villains to make him shine. Mark Miller is an interesting choice as a writer and I think Lousie Leterierre (??spelling??) may make a good choice, becuase he may be the only hope of fans seeing superman throw a punch at a supervillain, rather than cower in weakness and vulnerability every time Lex Luthor uses his brilliant intellectual prowess to clutch a chunk of kryptonite!

3:) Brandon Routh did a descent job playing Superman, but his Clark Kent was terrible and lacked the clumsy but secretly deliberate behaviour as demonstrated by the great and late Christopher Reeve. Example: Anyone remember the scene in Superman (Donner version) when Clark throws his hat onto the coat hanger, whilst smiling at Lois while she ignores him? The hat landed with perfect 'superman'accuracy, but the persona of Clark Kent is still in play. That little bit of Superman shot through the bumbling Clark Kent impression. Kal-el let his confidence and prowess show in an attempt to impress Lois Lane, but risked his bumbling Clark act at the same time. You got the impression that he was willing to take risks with his Clark act, that he just wanted to break free of it and be Super and get Lois to like him. That was greatness in character acting.

Get an actor with a large build to play Superman. Routh is to slim. I just can't believe he can lift an island, let alone the daily planet globe with those slim arms.

4:) Get an actress with 'balls' to play Lois Lane. Kate Boswarth was a disaster. In-fact, I thought at the time that Parker Poser would have made a much better choice as Lois. She seems like an actress who can deliver some fire to the role. Who the hell was Kate Bosworth before Superman Returns anyway? I don't remember hearing about her and havn't heard about her since. I fear she may have been one of those silly teen soap (one tree hill, OC) talentless dumbletons!

4:) No Lex Luthor. Period. Except to kill him off at the beginning, maybe. That would be good.

5:)Action! Destruction! Supervillains! ZOD! BRANIAC! Bring back the threat of Zod , Ursa and Non! Smash it up with Braniac! Give Doomsday his Hollywood debut!

Make the next Superman movie an action spectacular from minute one to the end. Destroy a few buildings, unleash heat vision blasts that show it's destructive power! Have superman being thrown through buildings and punching opponents into space and using trucks, cars and lorries to hurtle and smash at the villain! If it takes Loise Leterriere to do that, then sign him up NOW!
