Are Toaster Strudels the new popcorn? We’ll leave that up to the commenters, but the NYT reports that various IMAX theaters are now offering tickets for 6 a.m. showings of The Dark Knight to meet fan frenzy. If these screenings sell out—-theaters in Chicago, San Diego and Minnesota are reportedly participating—expect other IMAX theaters to follow. We previously reported on TDK’s ticket sales running ahead of Spider-Man 3.

Midnight shows suit the film perfectly, but we might have to leave our sunglasses on for a 6 a.m. screening. And the thought of a bunch of hyper sextuplets wearing Joker pajamas climbing all over us in the theater is a bit much, like some kind of parasitosis prank worthy of the Clown Prince himself.

Discuss: 6 a.m. or bust?

what!? geez, i thought 3am was going overboard. looks like i wont be seeing this two weeks after the release.
  • nick
i would happily go to a 6am show. heck 7-8am would be perfect lol.
  • Christopher Edwards
Yeah!, I am going to the First showing in my area in the U.K

Just hope that the reviews are true about this.
  • Captain Awesome
God damn. This movie is going to be a major blow-out it seems.

6 am would be perfect. You get out 2 and half hours later and then go for some breakfast. Talk about it over some eggs, bacon, and coffee.

    :)
  • GregoryV
for me, i'll wake up at 6 and wait in line for the 9-10am showing and be out for lunch. lol.
  • Aaron
    Cool!

But I wonder what's with the badly drawn sleepy joker pic? Is that goddamn deviant art?
  • Captain Awesome
    Aaron,

It's Hunter's inevitability that he will be dining on a shoe very soon.
  • I'm glad, I hope our IMAX theater here picks up on this and does as many screenings as possible.
  • Jetpackman89
I'm glad i bought my ticket like 3 weeks in advances. I knew this movie was going to be big but i didn't think it would be ....THIS BIG. I might as well see it 3 times that night then go for eggs and bacon in the morning. I can't wait!
  • Goldfoot
The theater I'm seeing it in IMAX at recently added a 3:30am showing, but there is no 6am. I told my friend I'd see it twice in a row if he wanted to, but I haven't heard back from him. Since I have a ticket for midnight I wouldn't go to a 6am showing, but if I didn't have a ticket I'd probably get up for 6am.
  • SEAN RADFORD
I WOULD CATCH A 6 AM SHOW OF THE DARK KNIGHT AT THE IMAX IT WOULD BE A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE ... THE AMOUNT OF MIDNIGHT SHOWINGS I'VE GONE TO 6 AM A LITTLE CHANGE OF PACE
  • krackajap
I'm pissed that the IMAX in Hawaii closed before they started playing Hollywood movies started to get released for it. I'd have to cross a god damn ocean if i wanted to see this in IMAX. Which also sucks cause airfare is ridiculously expensive now days....
  • nope. All you fanboys are so pathetic. Stop being so obsessed with Batman. It's not gonna show for one day, they're gonna show it for the ENTIRE SUMMER. Y'all have plenty of time to wait and catch the movie.

    Calm the hell down, fanboys.

    God.

I'm entirely not a morning person, so 6am for a movie, even TDK
is too early. I'd rather hit a 9:30am showing, which is what I plan
to do on Sat because there is no way I'm going to sit through it
on Friday with a bunch of dumbass people who can't sit still, keep
their mouths shut or cell phones off. I'd be likely to commit
    murder. LoL
Though when you think about it a 6am showing might not be a
bad idea...cause all those idiots would be sleeping.
  • JMoney
Please don't ever mention TDK in the same sentence as Spiderman 3 ever again

    thank you
  • charles
No way. I'm seeing it saturday night at the west palm beach IMAX. Tickets aren't even sold out for the midnight there.
  • Tendrillar
I'm really tempted. All the good show times are sold out already.
  • Zach
We bought tickets for 10 am saturday a few weeks ago. Can't wait!
  • A Better Class of Criminal
I just now bought tickets for 1:30 p.m. opening day. I can't believe it wasn't sold out, I must be incredibly lucky.
  • Andy G
    meli has it pegged.
  • AP
I'm all over this...every single show for this weekend is already sold out for the Chicago Navy Pier IMAX. My buddies and I are hitting the 6am there. It worked out perfectly - we're going to watch the film and then head straight to work/school for the day. The adrenaline of the film will get us through the day. Nothing like a little buttery popcorn and pop for breakfast!
  • Chip
The Pacific Science Center in Seattle is playing TDK at 12am, 3am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, etc. for opening weekend Fri., Sat., Sun.

Midnight is sold out, I bought tickets to the 3am but it looks like 3 and 6 am will both be sold out before show time.
  • sari
I saw Spiderman 3 in Imax at 6 am. It was the stupidest idea ever.
  • In response to Mr. Broomstick, this is America. I shouldn't have to exlpain that further, but I shall. Here, we, as Americans, have not only the right, but the obligation to do what we want, when we want, and as fast as we want. If there are enough proud Americans out there willing to exercises these rights, then it is only right that the theatre in response meets these demands.

IMAX is the way this film can best be viewed and the sooner you see it in this format, the better. If it's at 3am or 6am or 9am after it comes out then so be it. This is America!
  • brian
    Broomstick...

when i wait three years to see a movie there isn't a f-in way in hell that i'm waiting another day or more to see it. which is why i have midnight IMAX and regular evening tickets on opening day. and it's not just fanboy-ism, it's about seeing (what appears to be) a really f-ing good movie, which is rare these days
  • Jenbot
Thats hillarious because the IMAX Edwards in San Diego has a 3AM showing on thursday (really Friday), and since the movie is almost 3 hours long, people getting out of the 3 am one will run into people going in to see the 6 AM one, I don't think thats every happened before. Whatevs we will be there bright and early, fuck work, this is an epic moment in cinematic history
