Yes, the style in which he films is instantly recognizable, but his (read stolen) source material is thinly veiled and never given its full credit. Sure, he may mention from time to time on DVD special features the names of the movies he often mirrors, but states shortly thereafter that "all directors steal, there is no such thing as an homage." (pardon the lack of exact citation, I think it was in the Charlie Rose interview on the Pulp Fiction DVD) Keep in mind, however, that his obvious wealth of cinematic history knowledge and the sheer volume of things he has seen is flat out astonishing, as is his success story in general. Nevertheless, I don't feel that establishes him as a notable talent, nor does it sway me to look forward to the byproduct of a series of greater movies mixed with obscure dialogue. TDK ftw.
