When I talked to Jonah Hill a few weeks before SuperBad was released last year, I asked about a possible sequel. Hill responded “We talked about it. But also like the movie hasn’t come out yet. No one could go see it, and the talk would instantly go away of there being a sequel.”

And of course, SuperBad was a big hit, grossing over $169 million worldwide and who knows how much on DVD. So what are the chances we’ll get a SuperBad 2? Seth Rogen told moviehole that the studio has been after them to do a sequel ever since the film was released nearly a year ago, but they’ve ultimately decided not to make a sequel.

“They’re been wanting us to do a sequel to Superbad for so long – but we’ve held off,” Rogen said. “We eventually said No.”

But Rogen isn’t against the idea of sequels all together, adding that he would love to make another Pineapple Express if all goes well.

“If it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars, as opposed to the $26M we got for this one, we could benefit from that.”

And from what I’ve heard, Pineapple Express is already tracking pretty high. Everyone I know who has seen it has told me that people are going to love it. And I’m sure Sony will be asking for a sequel after opening weekend.

"And from what I’ve heard, Pineapple Express is already tracking pretty high."

    har har har
  • Superbad was supergood. The same counts for the first American Pie Movie. The sequels to AP all sucked big time. I don't want a second superbad either. Besides that, Superbad was written by Rogen when he was 13 IIRC...

His face is so punchable in that poster.

As much as I loved Superbad I don't think a sequel would ever work...I could see them all work together again on a non-Superbad project...
  • Pineapple Express actually looks funny. Maybe Seth Rogen isn't so bad after all.

I've actually seen Pineapple Express in a screening way back in February in NYC. All in all it was pretty hilarious, definitely a shoo-in for the Stoner Film Hall of Fame. If such a thing were to exist. Oh and I was sober at the time so it was actually funny. Too many stoner films IMO need you to be high to find it funny, not so with this one. They could have shortened a couple scenes, but I guess that's why they screened it back then.

Saw Pineapple Express back in May. It is absolutely incredible.
  • I've seen it and as far as Apatow comedies go, it's down in Talladega Nights territory. Here, I even reviewed it:

Good but not great. Okay, not particularily good either.

yea, there's just no point in making a Superbad 2. the last thing we need is another 'American Pie' wannabe with two theatrical sequels followed by nine straight-to-DVD movies.

Superbad was good. let's just leave it at that.

i think with their writing talents they could pull it off, but i rather them just write some even better screenplays and just keep cranking them out so i can get my laugh on.

there's nothing worse than a movie over staying it's welcome. besides, do you really think they could come up with anything better than "McLovin"???

damn! now i want to watch Superbad, urgh!

CMON! EVERY ACTOR IN THE WORLD PROBABLY GIVES A ONE OFF ABOUT A SEQUEL NOWADAYS, BUT YOU DECIDE TO WRITE AN ENTIRE ARTICLE ABOUT THIS GUY. GIVE ME A BREAK. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY TOO. SHOWS HOW UNTALENTED THESE GUYS ARE, $26 MILLION FOR A COMEDY ABOUT GRASS? AND THEY WANT $50 MILLION FOR A A SEQUEL?? OBVIOUSLY TO MAKE UP FOR THE CLEAR LACK OF TALENT AND ABILITY. CHEECH AMND CHONG DID IT FOR MAYBE THREE MILLION OR LESS. PATHETIC. HOPE THE MOVIE BOMBS AND ROEGN TAKES A HIT, AS FOR THE HOBGOBLIN, HE IS PUTTING HIS ASSON THE LINE, LOOKING LIKE A KID IN THIS POSTER, HE'D BE IN RUIN TOO. THEY ARE OK, THEY ARE NOT GREAT. STUPID NAME TOO. LATA!
  • fuck man i love super bad the should make the second one i should be on the movie im funny jk
    they should make part 2
  • jessicah
Pineapple express was funny but it wasnt hilarious, i mean it had its good parts, but really

    NO COMPARISON with Superbad.
dude theres no comparison, Superbad owned Pineapple Express by a gazillion.

Everyone knows it too, Pineapple Express was good but not as good as i thought it was gonna be

I mean dont get me wrong, Seth Rogans fucking hilarious but its Superbad!
he played the cop amazingly. No argueing! lol

Superbad deserves a #2 where there in College, thats only if its gonna be funny like the first :)
  • Mad Dog
i think its kinda gay cause super bad is a good movie and another one of it would be nice. i would like to see the same stars in a movie together. once again.
  • Tom
Instead of a sequel there should be a prequel
that would be awsome but i agree that if there was a superbad 2 there would be alot of pressure on it to be as good as the first one
  • Srg TooTall
Pineapple express wasn't just funnier then superbad it shoved a big cock up its ass. After watchn it, superbad just became tame, i know superbad is funny but pineapple express is fucking brilliant i mean how the fcuk did they end up in a gang war between triads and drug dealers a the end, and the soudtrack on pineaplle express is much better, AN FOR UR INFORMATION RED IN PINEAPPLE EXPRESS IS WAY FUNIER THAN MCloving, and plus u dont have stupid american humour in pineapple express like 'ohhhh duude sumen split period blood on ur pants (trouser for inteliegent people) and i know that pinapple express is written by americans but there acually intelligant and understand sarcasm which is rare in america they just had todump bits down for most of u retards. PINAPPLE EXPRESS RULES AND IF THEY DONT DO A SEQUEL I@LL GIVE THEM THE 50 MILLION

No way in hell that Pineapple Express was as funny as Superbad. Superbad rocked the entire teen comedy genera with unforgettable characters (McLovin), witty dialog, and a great plot/story line. Another thing that I won't forget is that it was one of the few teen comedies with genuinely GOOD ACTING.

Pineapple Express was funny (don't get me wrong) but it has absolutely nothing on Superbad. Pineapple Express has decently memorable characters, and there were a few scenes where I laughed so hard I almost pissed my pants. But Superbad is by far the superior of the two.

As for Seth Rogan declining the invitation to make a Superbad sequel. GOOD FOR HIM. He obviously has a brain. A sequel to Superbad would taint the humor from the first one, and would destroy the Superbad legacy. Whereas a Pineapple Express 2 (with good screenwriters, the same director, and a few new characters) could be pulled off. (Hopefully they won't name it Pineapple Express 2 though. They should think of something creative).

Superbad was on a different level than Pineapple express.. i was barely laughing in pineapple express.. superbad was the funniest comedy in 2007 and epic movie in all proportions.. for you to say pineapple express was better than superbad is like saying knocked up was funnier than the 40 year old virgin.. come on man get your stuff straight.. Also superbad made 169 million dollars in the box office. It's obvious they should do a sequel...
  • Chris
Superbad was amazing so well tought out till the last detail..i think all us true Superbad fans would love to see a sequel. but it must be as tought out as the first, NO big ending where evry1 falls in love and lives happily ever after!! the exact same characters have to be used and must be just another day in the lives of Seth, Evan and Fogell.. it would be horible though if they ruined it by making it cheap and like the american pie sequels!..if that would be the case then leave it the way it is.
  • I really couldn't see either one of these having a sequel
