The New York Times has a photo from the set of McG’s Terminator Salvation. Looks like they blew up a 7-Eleven in the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The story also reiterates the sequel’s rumored budget of “more than $200 million”. I understand the knee jerk reaction most people are having to the idea of a fourth Terminator film, but I’ve been hearing some really great things about this production.
Update: Videoeta has more photos from the set, I’ve included a couple below.

lol it ended with t2 for me sorry.
July 4th, 2008 at 2:16 am
Still don’t like the title (why it can’t just be T4 is beyond me) but I’m jazzed about this film.
Also I’m pretty over people putting films like Terminator 2 up on pedestals. They’re just movies kids. What’s more sequels and remakes don’t erase them, and nobody’s forcing you to watch what comes next.
July 4th, 2008 at 2:22 am
“knee jerk reaction”
lol, seriously?
July 4th, 2008 at 2:24 am
yup - I was tolerating T3 until Arnie was hanging from the crane and he crashed into a bus - then came the comical “thud” sound effect and a little bit of me died inside…. hopefully this new one is dark and edgy like the first two !
July 4th, 2008 at 2:25 am
No shit. T3 made me lose my hope in the movies. Lets see if we can get some robot-retro kick-ass stuff without Arnold.
July 4th, 2008 at 2:29 am
Another blog/board has an idea who Helena B. Carter will be playing…one of the only major female villains in the Terminator universe is Serena Burns….I’m starting to look forward to this movie the more I read up the extensive Terminator mythology, I know this movie could be a huge bomb…but the whole universe is rich and layered…I can understand where Bale could compare it to Batman Begins….I just wished they’d release more concept artwork so we have an idea of what angle they’re going for….

I want solid action. As long as there’s not bullet-time-shit like in Charlie’s Angels and no “worst-CGI-ever”-shot like that CA-scene where the helicopter fell off I would be happy.
Seriously: Terminator has to be 80ies-style-action. No humour, just HUGE explosions, brutal killing and bad ass action.
July 4th, 2008 at 3:27 am
guess i cant have an opinion M&Co ?
July 4th, 2008 at 4:06 am
looks like my back yard…hang on!!!!
July 4th, 2008 at 4:12 am
I know I’m *crazy*, but I never really was a fan of T2. I actually liked T3 - and if Christian Bale is starring in T4, what’s not to like? It’s finally going to be about the robots!
July 4th, 2008 at 5:07 am
That is correct john.
July 4th, 2008 at 5:21 am
Just stop ruining terminator please…
July 4th, 2008 at 5:55 am
I thought that was an AT-AT in the photo - as if Luke Skywalker landed on Earth and the Empire stooges had a giant battle with the Terminators.
Quit saying you wouldn’t watch that.
July 4th, 2008 at 7:03 am
BTW, the article wasn’t about it being a bloated, more than $200 million production; it was about how the producers planned to deal with a potential strike. The budget comment was pretty incidental.
July 4th, 2008 at 7:07 am
these movies suck..alot
July 4th, 2008 at 8:31 am
It’s a little disheartening to me that this story is about the film strike and T4’s potential going forward in the face of that and you choose to not only to neglect all of that, you just concentrate on a new picture. It says a lot.
July 4th, 2008 at 9:33 am
What’s not to like? Has everyone forgotten who is directing this piece of garbage? McG is the director that has brought you cinematic gems like Charlies Angels, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle, and We Are Marshall. I thought it was impossible to screw up that script but he did.
Speaking of the writing we got the writers(John Brancato and Mike Ferris) of Primevil, and Catwoman. Am I the only person who looks at track records before I get a huge erection looking at a destroyed 7-eleven. Isn’t this just really tasteless product placement?
@Alex
I completely agree. But seriously what did you expect? These guys(along with every other film fanboy site) pandered to the AMPTP during the Writers’ strike as well. I thought they just hated writers. Turns out they just hate unions. ;)
July 4th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Looks like they ripped off the set from resident evil 3
July 4th, 2008 at 10:33 am
This picture made me look at things different, maybe it will be good.
July 4th, 2008 at 10:41 am
I said hulk2 would flop - and be shit.
give t4 a shot.
July 4th, 2008 at 10:46 am
@EDC
Wasn’t Incredible Hulk shit? Ok. maybe not. But it certainly was forgettable. Maybe we’ll luck out with T4 and it’ll just be forgettable. ;)
July 4th, 2008 at 10:56 am
@ Gorman
We pandered to the AMPTA? Haha, you’re joking right? Also, we hate writers?! [Shades of Dave Chappelle's KKK skit] You’re talking out of your ass.
July 4th, 2008 at 11:11 am
@Hunter Stephenson
Funny thing is I was joking. Sarcasm doesn’t come off well with only an emoticon to give a hint. However the talking out of my ass is still completely true.
In seriousness, what would would be the point of you fellas reporting on the potential SAG strike if it hasn’t happened yet? Plus I have to assume 90% of you guys like myself probably have a stack or two of screenplays next to your desk.
Since I got your attention though. I’m just curious if you gentlemen are taking part in the boycott on Variety (in terms of citing them as sources). It’s a nice idea I have been hearing but ultimately I don’t think it is going elicit a (mature)response from them.
Now excuse me, I must be on the wrong site. I thought this was the Michael Eisner fanclub.
July 4th, 2008 at 11:31 am
1. T3 wasn’t that bad. had some great action sequences
2. McG is awful (refer to: Charlies Angels 1 and 2)
July 4th, 2008 at 11:35 am
@ Gorman
Ah. Gotcha. Your new point about a SAG strike is spot on. If it happens, obviously we’ll cover it. As it stands, it’s summer/July 4th, we’ll let Nikki Finke bum everyone out for the time being.
note: ( ;) )
Variety / THR boycott: Yes, Slashfilm is partaking and fully supports it on numerous levels—we have for a while now. We no longer link to those dead tree trade publications. Per a mature response/reaction from them: of course not. It’s like explaining Firefox to your parents. Who cares. In the end, we win. Also, Vanity Fair called Slashfilm the “new Variety,” so it’s not just the “mom’s-basement-set” (to paraphrase Peter Bart) that feels this way. For the record: Slashfilm has nothing against moms, quite the opposite.
July 4th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Everyone in here crying about how bad this is going to suck. Then a high octane, edited to hell trailer will be released. These same people will then post how it doesn’t look half bad and they can’t wait. At which point they will all pay to see the, just to log back on here to cry about how bad it sucked.
What’s wrong with you people?
July 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
I know im just repeating this but lets just wait and see….mcg hasent done anything good to date and the writers sucked but lets give them a chance….new begingin with bale staring so lets give them a chance(remeber ron howard did do splash)
But this movie could suck and could be the batman and robin to the terminator franchinse or it could be the juice to start a new wave of fans and be some cool post applocolypto sh!t!!
July 4th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Many people are forgetting that Jonah Nolan did the last rewrite on Terminator Salvation. Remember, he’s the guy who wrote Memento, Prestige and The Dark Knight (which everyone who has seen is calling a masterpiece)
July 4th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Jonathan did the last rewrite?! COUNT ME IN.
July 4th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
fallout
July 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
They could have shot those scenes in the California desert. There’s dead towns all over the Victorville area that look just like that.
And how do these shots convey how good the movie will be?
Incredible Hulk forgetable? Man I thought that was one of the best films this summer. And T3 kicked ass , all allways defend that film cause it rocked !
July 4th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
LOL!!!
I live in New Mexico. Work on the set of this film (Project Angel anyone). One things for sure…
Christian Bale is shorter than I thought he’d be.
smh
July 4th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
No wan mess’s width the Jezzus!
Yeah I said the same thing about Arnold when I saw him in person.
So “Project Angel”, that refers to the rumors that we heard concerning a retro T-800 model called Markus. The same one that becomes John Connor.
Blaaah.
So Jezzus, I have a question? Are they shooting at night or daytime?
July 4th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
How the heck did I miss the info that Jonah Nolan had a hand in the script? I am getting old…
It’s kind of unclear how much he has worked on it(’going over it’ doesn’t exactly sound like a page 1 rewrite), but just knowing he was involved(The Prestige is one of my favorite flicks) makes me willing to risk taking a bite out of this turd sandwich.
July 4th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Don’t bite that turd sandwitch Gorman.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
July 4th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Gorman: I’m not sure it was a page 1 rewrite, but I think it was reported somewhere that he he spent a couple weeks working over the script.
July 5th, 2008 at 9:13 am
This set is just about a half a mile away from ABQ studios and I think these were being shot in mid-day to late afternoon. I know that when they blew it up, which was CRAZY, it was in the day.
The rest of the time was spent at ABQ studios, in the underground flooded sewers.
And about these PG-13 rumors….all I got to say is…
;)
July 5th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Oh and up until now, I’ve only seen the T-600’s in action (plural)
July 5th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Thanks for the news Jezzus, can you tell us what the T-600’s look like. Are they using actors with rubber looking skin or some type of Stan Winston creation? Any other info would be appreciated! ;-)
July 5th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I’m sick of everybody ripping on T3. Yes, T2 is undoubtedly the best in the series, and no, T3 didn’t have the same impact effects-wise as its predecessors. Still, the whole story about the inevitability of judgment day was intriguing.
I think T4 has the same writers as T3, which to me is a GOOD thing. Can’t wait to see where they take the story…
July 5th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
The T-600’s are built by these huge mechanical arms that are now under the control of the machines (skynet). They run on tracks and are the predecessors to the ones that can actually walk. which I’m guessing are the ones we see at the beginning of T2.
They have the mock ups of all the vehicles and robots that will be in the movie under TIGHT security. My friend has seen them though and he said they look really cool.
The last time I saw a T-600 was when it was popping out of the water in the sewer/flooded area. They spent a lot of time filming this scene. The way they escape the area is cool. It involves a water charge.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Hmm so the T-600’s arnt human looking? From what you say Jezzus they run on tracks ? If that’s true that’s inconsistant with what Kyle Reese tells Sarah in T1. ;-(
Please keep us updated Jezzus.
Thanks.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Well, I haven’t read any part of the script. Just what I have seen.
The ones I saw might not be fully functional yet.
I posted up some photos, not sure if they have to be approved or not….
July 6th, 2008 at 4:25 am
McG?!! He should go back to music videos where he belongs.
The “Charlie’s Angels” movies make me shudder in horror.
July 6th, 2008 at 6:08 am
Yeah the T-600’s should in a twisted kind of way look something like Jason from Halloween. ( Rubber skin ).
Keep the updates comming, The_Jezzus!
July 6th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
How am I the only one who noticed that the bullets that hit the sign didn’t penetrate? Did this set designer never drive down through rural America?
July 6th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
BaronSolid, didn’t you hear that street signs in America are all bullet proof now, so that in case of robot attack that can also double as shielding from T-600’s.
Serioulsy, how many other things are they going to screw up in this movie?
July 27th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
I LOVED THEM ALL. AND WAIT TO SEE THIS ONE.
July 28th, 2008 at 4:20 am
Rise of the Machines was personally for me a massive failure and contrary to what the first and second films were trying to achieve. Hopefully Salvation follows on from Judgment Day and continues along the same brutal, cold & dark lines as the first 2 films and the very same lines as ‘the Sarah Connor Chronicles’ is! I’m not convinced as a fan of the first 2 films Christian Bale will be able to carry off the role as John Connor but if this is only to be a supporting role time will tell :)
