uhg. not blur…while technically proficient i’ve always found their story telling skills to be somewhat below par. even in their shorts. har, punny!

anyhoo, they should give this to a european studio. like the one setup by the director of the triplets of belleville or a french animation house. someone with a different history of animation than the somewhat inbred north american industry.

hell, passion pictures in the UK would do it better than 99% of the north american studios.

The Goon is a really fantastic comic. My money restraints usually keep me just reading Marvel most of the time but I do splurge when I get the chance and buy Goon when I can. I’ve always thought this would make an awesome animated feature as it’s really funny and bad ass and there would be tons of cool ways to animate characters and monsters from the book. This is exciting stuff but I’m sure we’ll all have to wait a while for it.

This is really really interesting news. The Goon is an awesome character, and has some really great stories, Hell I’d say if it were live action Ron Pearlman would play him as well in a semi Popeye like suit. But this is even better news being in CG. And with Fincher on board this could be even better if done right!

It kind of funny because I was reading The Goon the other day and thought to myself how interesting it would be to see this as a movie. Honestly I’m all for them making The Goon into a movie. I’m not sure how I feel about it being CG but who knows, it might be a hell of a lot better if it is in CG. And for those who have never heard or read The Goon before you should really pick up a copy it’s a very fun read.

I have not read the comics… so I have no comment regarding it
but I really like Blur’s all-Cg visual style (still not perfect though mostly cause of their colors look pretty much the same) specially with their last few cinematics (1st shot of Empire Earth 3 and Tabula Rasa and all-Marvel-related stuff they had created)

but I hope somebody comes and takes the reign of the directing… since Blur desperately needs a director (If you disagree, please watch Gentleman’s Duel (or pertty much all their cinematics) which in all its glory, misses all its comedic punch-lines)

ps. what the hell happened to Rockfish??? It was announced 3 years ago… still no news about it!!! Shane Acker’s 9 was announced 2 years ago and its release date is already this year!!!

I’m surprised the /film crew hasn’t heard of The Goon. It’s a great read, and has garnered quite a loyal following. Eric Powell does a tremendous job with story and art, in addition to a lot of nice touches with his feedback, and details. This is a highly recommended read. However, it will be somewhat disappointing translating this to the screen, even with animation.

Also, If anyone thinks this resembles Sam Keith’s art in any way, shape, or form. Your eyes are broken.

You can easily tell them apart from a mile away. I will agree with the Hellboy comparison though.

Blur Studio has been making some great graphic and grittier type CG material for a while. And this sounds like something that would be perfect for them to do. And coupled with Fincher? This could turn out to be great.
