I've never understood why people hated Miami Vice. The director's cut made really made me appreciate it. But Heat is my favorite, most definitely.

Can't see Chris Bale as Melvin Purvis, especially after Ben Johnson in Dillinger.

Heat and The Insider were his best films. I think this one has the potential to be the best though. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale...who isn't going to see this?

The Insider is my all time favorite movie.
There are not enough words to describe how many great things are going on in that flawless movie.
The music, the cast, the story, the cinematography, the editing, the list goes on.
This movie, which I saw in the theatre in 1999 made me re-think movies and their impact, and made me want to work on film, having been a designer and musician my whole life.
I moved to LA about 2 years after seeing this film, that's how much of an influence "The Insider" was and still is.

I enjoyed Heat and The Insider.

Collateral, to me, is sort of an almost-classic, type of film, alongside other unappreciated gems like Stranger Than Fiction and Catch Me If You Can.

I think Public Enemies has wild potential, and with powerhouses like Depp and Bale at the forefront, this could be the most profitable and the most entertaining of Mann's films.

I can't wait. Nice to see the supporting cast rounded out by other great actors like Billy Crudup and Giovanni Ribisi.

Freddie,

Considering Mann's potent catalog before MV. I'm pretty sure he's already been excused for that one and maybe a couple of more :P

Michael Mann is probably my favorite director. Heat is my favorite film of his and considering Pacino, DeNiro and everything else, it's probably his best work. Rounding out his crime films you have Collateral and the non-mentioned Thief (come on guys) that are both absolutely superb. Then you have The Insider, absolutely fantastic and then how can you forget Last of the Mohicans? Rounding out his resume are fantastic films like Manhunter and Ali.

Now we get to Miami Vice. Seeing as Man is my favorite director, the thought of a revamped Miami Vice had my anticipation as high as Dark Knight levels. From the trailers, it looked like it was going to match them but man.. it really didn't It looked great but the story, character development.. all blah. I was pretty disappointed.

Like others have said, with Bale and Depp and a killer idea.. sounds like he will have his chance for redemption with this one.

I think Mann's best is a neck and neck between The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Collateral, Manhunter, and The Insider. That's tough for me to choose...

I'll go with Heat for now since he managed to be the first guy to get DeNiro and Al Pacino against each other on screen. Not to mention influence just about every heist film after that.

Collateral is my favorite Mann film. The way Mann shoots LA in that film is spectacular and unlike anything I've seen in any of his other work. The flick also features a small cameo by Javier Bardem, who was then largely unknown to American audience. I just watched it again a couple nights ago and really love Jamie Foxx and even Tom Cruise's performance. Kind of makes me wish he wasn't insane because he's really good as the sociopath assassin Vincent.

As far as other bank robber-centric movies, obviously Dog Day Afternoon has to be atop that list.
