It’s official, Rotten Tomatoes has declared WALL-E to be the best-reviewed movie of the year so far. It beats out Iron Man (93%, 209 reviews), the previous best film of 2008. WALL-E currently has a 96% fresh rating with 149 reviews. To update our previous story, the film also added another 4,000 votes on Internet Movie Database, bringing the film’s average user rating to 9.2 (8,972 votes). While many expected the film to drop from its #9 placement on the top 250 movies of all time, the latest Pixar movie actually moved up to #6!

I haven't seen Wall-E yet so there really is no point in saying this but on the basis that I did see the previous Pixar films and thought that they were all good, some great but I was never really blown away by any of them.. I just can't see how such a wide range of reviewers (critical by nature) love this film. Again, it is very possible that this film is this great but I can't help but be skeptical and think that people are just getting caught up in the hype.

Oh well, if it is this great then that's awesome that another fantastic film was produced for cinemagoers that most of us are.

P.S. I hope it doesn't top The Dark Knight. This is pretty much where the above post comes from.

I really enjoyed the film. Just like Iron Man it actually delivered with the hype. Its deserved.
  • jank
    seen it.
it was good but not #6 of all time good. that's just ridiculous.
    it's hype.
  • igroveman
looking forward to seeing it... although, I thought Iron Man felt more like a 64-67% to me.
  • Henry Jones Jr
I consider both Iron Man and Wall-E to be over-rated. Good movies but not great movies.

I think in the context of this year so far to date, the ratings for both IM and Wall-E are well placed. For me these two movies are my two favoriate of the year.

To be fair, the quality of movies out this year is quite poor...so many crappy releases and I don' t see the quality getting any better (TDK should be the exception).

This doesn't shock me. Afterall, we live a world where "Titanic "is the biggest film of all time.
  • It was good.

i'm thinking only TDK or Benjamin Button will be able to top wall-e.
  • Jerry Speelberg
benjamin button? Interesting what you hold high and mighty :p

    lol

Wall-e's a kids film. Most movie goers won't even ever see it. There, Im said it. Now will you all rejoin me in reality. Thanks.
  • soundoftheground
what is this movie even about? i literally know nothing about it.
  • Steve
Umm, do you guys have any news about the new Wall-E movie? I can't seem to find any on this darn site.
  • Jerry Speelberg
Too bad Indy 4 didn't fly /film out to the set for a one-on-one interview with the creators like wall-e did. then the Spielberg and team behind it might be getting due props here, instead of dissed. :(

Great WALLE just surpassed Shindler's List. I bet a good 90% of the people that gave WALLE an exceedingly positive review are much to young and/or "film stupid" to have even seen Shindler's List, let alone understand why it is massively superior to WALLE; thus giving a perfect example of the fundemental flaw in IMDb's voting system: It assumes people are intellegent.

    ... and adults.

Btw, just got the phone with my niece. She says she had just given Wall-e a glowing review on imdb.

    She's 10.

Benjimin Button I havnt read the book and I'm betting the all the love for it comes from the book. Thr trailer looked incredibly boring and tired.

I see TDK on that list in a few weeks.

That list dosnt mean sh-t anyway.
  • Sean
wait. wall-e above schindler's list, empire strikes back, casablanca, and twelve angry men? i dont think so.
  • gocitizen
By calling a film "a kids' film" simply because it is animated, a person seriously discredits themselves from having anything intelligent to say about film.

IMDB is a straw man where this post is concerned. Paid critics (nearly all) have weighed in on their feelings concerning Wall-e. Arguing that point is a little disingenuous.
  • El Scorcho
First of all Wall-E was a very excellent movie. Not as good as TDK is gonna be but one of the best of the summer. It's also definitely not just "a kids film."

Also I'm really excited about Benjamin Button, David Fincher is one hell of a director and his movies are always ones worth getting excited about. Sorry Speelburg, but Wall-E trounced Indiana Jones and the kingdom of "lets pad george lucas' pocket with green while he stomps on Spielberg's creative control"

In fact, I do believe I sense a little resentment from someone who watched Indy flop while a little robot won over the critics and the box office...

Actually, I was one of the few web journalists tat was flew out to the Indy 4 set, you can find the article in our archives. We met with Spielberg and everything. Pixar DID NOT fly us anywhere for wall-e. We had to rent a car and drive to the Emeryville campus.
  • Jerry Speelberg
Indy flew you out, and you attack them needlessly twisting quotes??? wtf?
  • @the Schindler's List vs Wall-E haters.

Schindler's List is without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time, one of the few films that can make me cry time and time again, that said, Wall-E is such an amazing film that even though Schindler's List would make my top 5, I'd still say Wall-E deserves its spot on the boards, its that good. Not only that but its an iconic movie that defines what an animated film should be, and seperates itself from every other one ever made.
  • Chip
OK, first off, I LOVED this movie, and it now one of my favorite films of all time, but I don't know about it being number 6 on the list.

RE: Actually, quite a bit of people (myself included) don't really like Titanic at all. It has a 7.2 rating on IMDB, as more people now are beginning to think it is overrated. It may have won a Best Picture Oscar, but I really don't think it was that good at all. The acting was pretty bad, as well as the script. While I'm not knocking the actual story of the Titanic sinking, the film just didn't bring me in. I wasn't sad when the people died or anything. All Titanic really feels like is a big, goofy summer blockbuster.

btw, I think that Wall-E deserves a Best Picture Oscar much more than films like Titanic. In my eyes, Wall-E is a far better film. And it actually does something different, just like Toy Story did when it first came out. Not just the animation, but the type of story it tells and the way it is executed. For me, Wall-E certainly lived up to the hype.

Also, anyone who calls Wall-E a kid's film completely missed the point. I don't usually say this to people, as it can be annoying to be told "you missed the point" if you didn' like or love the film. But Wall-E is not a kids film. It is appropriate for kids, hence the G-rating. I honestly think that the MPAA needs to come up with another rating, lower than G. Something like KO (Kid-Oriented) or something (I know that's not the best name).

People tend to assume that a G-rating automatically makes a movie "a kids movie". A G-rating means that it is not only appropriate for older people, but for kids as well. I'm pretty sure that "General audience" isn't a synonym for "Kids".

Oh, and also the people who say, "It's just a cartoon". I absolutely DESPISE that phrase, about as much as Brad Bird is peeved about people calling animated a genre instead of a medium. Saying it's just a cartoon is like saying, again, that animation is a genre instead of a medium. Wall-E more than proved this wrong, and thus is not "just a cartoon". It's a film, and a great one at that. It's certainly the best I've seen this yer so far.
