Over at his official site, director Dario Argento has posted nine first-look stills and the poster for his ‘09 American release, Giallo, starring Adrien Brody.

First impressions: Look at that poster! It’s schlock-tastic, like something you’d find in the storage room of a bodega; In odd contrast, Brody looks like late period Al Pacino in the stills; Vincent Gallo is no doubt scoffing into the wind. Here’s the logline: Giallo centers on an American flight attendant (Emmaunuelle Seigner) who teams with an Italian investigator (Brody) to search for her missing sister who has been abducted by a serial killer known only as Yellow, or ‘Giallo.’ He likes to cut up beautiful women.

More stills from Dario’s site and another poster via Wikipedia after the cliffhanger…

Discuss: How does the Giallo poster make you feel?

And if you ventured this far, here’s a pic per the Brody/Pacino circa 88 Minutes comparison…

  • I will pay to see this film if only to spite that Clamitia trap Vincent Gallo.

I love Argento but he needs to stop casting his daughter in his movies it's creepy as hell, considering she usually does nude scenes. It also doesn't help she can't act her way out of a paper bag. This sounds interesting going back to his days of "Tenebre" and the "Bird with The Crystal Plumage". I just hope the man gets a budget because his last projects looked like they were shot with a TV camera, someone needs to introduce him to the wonderful world of HD cameras. Again I'm a big fan of his work, yet Mother of Tears left me wondering if he can ever make a solid horror or thriller as he has in the past.

That's one of the worst posters i've seen in years.
  • Christopher Marc
The poster is lacking, I'm sure it's not even a real one...the posters for Mother of Tears, were actually impressive so I'd say it's fake...considering Brody's goatee isn't present on the poster
  • Ryan
That is one of the most boring posters I've ever seen.

    Nice try at spelling 'chlamydia'

    @ Christopher Marc

Well, if any director would post a fake poster for his own film on his website, it would be Argento. What you're getting at: We def won't catch this poster in U.S. theaters. Also, unless I'm mistaken, Asia Argento dropped out of the project after Gallo dropped out and blamed it on her casting.

    @ The Dude

    Nice try.

    @Hunter

I was speaking of the many other roles his daughter has portrayed in his films most recently Mother of Tears.
  • gah
Is that poster for real??? Ugh, terrible. Not even direct to video good. Someone needs to take a photoshop lesson.
  • gah
    @ Hunter
Also, are you ever going to partake in the slashfilmcast?
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @ gah

Thanks for asking. My agent is currently in early talks with /Filmcast about a possible role on the show. As with anything, money talks.

My idea was to appear carte blanche if they allowed me to get corn-syrup-murdered by a runaway ICP Juggalo, or smoke a bong on the air and talk about Zelig, but both of those ideas were said to not be funny. Start a petition!
  • Liz
    Hunter -

An ICP juggalo? Isn't that redundant? And what would a juggalo possibly be running away from? Is the corn syrup from a bottle of Faygo?

    I have so many questions.
  • Mitch
the poster makes me feel homosexual.
  • john
WHY DONT THEY JUST CALL IT "YELLOW" ???
why call it something everyone will mispronounce???

    i hate "artsy" titles.......
  • jfive
Yep i think its safe to say shes dead and the poster is pretty lame.
  • doolingus
    FAKE!
  • John,

They're not calling it Yellow as the word Giallo has a whole host of meanings when it comes to Italian thriller movies. It's not "artsy"; do some research before you go shooting your mouth off.
  • balsam
i think that the AndyWharol Knifes poster is a fake, becouse it would be a copy of the cover of one of the biggest italian best selling book of recent times Gomorra

  • Hickok
    john,

you idiot, why would an Italian director call his movie "Yellow", instead of using the Italian word for "Yellow"?
Do you think that Argento's latest movie was titled "Mother of Tears"? Well it wasn't, it was titled "La terza madre", and "Mother of Tears" is the international title.
  • Plan_9
As for the term 'giallo', in this context, it wouldn't convey the meaning 'yellow" to Italians: long before such films were made, 'giallo' was already the name by which popular, inexpensive editions of thriller/detective novels were known because of the use of cheap paper dyed yellow in their manufacture (plural: 'gialli").
One can even see a stack of them in the Argento film in which a dwarf giallo author is suspected of being the murderer (sorry, but the film's title has slipped my mind).

I'm favorably impressed by the poster. It's evocative of the opening sequence of "Deep Red" (not to mention the attempt on Warhol's life), and, having seen it, I'm far more likely to pay extra to view the film at a theatre.
