One is the feted composer of films like True Romance and The Dark Knight, the other is the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and a killer composer in his own right (Ghost Dog, Kill Bill). What do they both have in common? They both made appearances on the latest Slashfilm Muxtape! And in yet another example of the /Film Effect, Zimmer and the RZA have combined their magic to score Vin Diesel’s Babylon A.D., the sci-fi chaser opening late August that has taken forever to get released. Here’s what the guy also known as Bob Digi told an alt newspaper…
“The RZA’s team and Hans Zimmer’s team have combined to create a hybrid kind of score for this movie that’s based in the future. So I think it’s going to be a good vibe for the audience out there, and it’s a good movie anyway – a very thought-provoking movie,” said The RZA (who got away with a lil’ third-person, but he’s The RZA, so hey!)
And add one more name to the film’s composer pot, Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for System of a Down aka “kids these days, I’ll tell ya.” That seems like a lot of effort/talent for a movie that hasn’t exactly put Geekdom on drool alert. RZA added that Tarantino has been holed up like a squirrel for many months—working on Inglorious Bastards, probs—and that he still mentions doing something more with Kill Bill, but, like a girl who leaves ya hangin’ on the phone, we all know how that goes.
Discuss: Where is Babylon A.D. on your radar? Anticipating the score? What’s your fave work by Zimmer/RZA?

I am interested in the movie.
As for Zimmer. It would have to be when he teamed-up with Lisa Gerrard for Gladiator.
For RZA, Kill Bill.

I also just remembered, Zimmer did Batman Begins with James Newton Howard. That’s another great soundtrack.

I like how you listed True Romance, because that has to go down as the most mismatched score in the history of cinema. It would’ve worked perfectly if it were a Hugh Grant comedy.

RZA did a awesome job with kill bill. but by far the 36 chambers album is RZAs best. the Zimmer and RZA collabo sounds like a great team-up. i would prefer Amon Tobin but i think RZA is a good choice for the nature of the film.

Oh shit!! I’m in! I don’t even care.

@ gah
I disagree. I liked the carousel-like nature of Zimmer’s score. It nicely reflected the couple’s child-like innocence and quixotic mission/intimacy. Plus, the score was clearly an ode to Badlands.

RZA is a genius so this could be greateness. The score for Ghost Dog was nothing short of awesome and Kill Bill was great. I’m definitely interested.

I liked his Toys score a lot. He did a bang up job on Kung Fu panda this year. Pirates’, Gladiator and Batman Begins, those are his tent poles.

This composer dosnt mean anything to me, but I’m totally into the film.
I’ll pretty much see any film Vin is in as long as its not “The fast and the retarded”.
Want another Riddick movie and 360 game.
LIKE YESTERDAY!!

i’m not a big fan of VD, but looking forward to this film. Looks like some cool art design, etc. Not enough sci-fi films get released.
he’s no Alexandre desplat, but Zimmer has done a lot of great work. His best is The Prince of Egypt. Subtle additions may make At World’s End slightly better than Curse of the BP. Batman Begins is epic/perfect, but i’m going to give some credit for that to JNH.
