I have just confirmed that the movie trailer for Scott Derrickson’s The Day the Earth Stood Still remake will be attached to prints of Hancock, which hits theaters next week.

The contemporary re-imagining of the 1951 science fiction classic stars Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor’s appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson (Jaden Smith) get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described “friend to the Earth.” Kathy Bates also stars. The Day the Earth Stood Still scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th 2008.

I hope its good. I want it to be good.

    Klaatu barata nikto!

I hope to shit this is good.

... I'm prepared to be disappointed, though.

I mean, there's no way in hell it'll be anywhere near as good as the original, but may it please be at least watchable.

One thing's for sure, at least this is a remake of a movie that's 57 years old, and not, say, 16 years old.

57 years is acceptable, but damn it, I just want that film to be what it is in history. They obviously have to change quite a bit to have it play for a 2008 audience. So the big question is: What did they change?

Of course, it would be pretty funny to hear Keanu deliver the same 1951 dialogue.

Next thing you know they are going to step on Forbidden Planet. Bastards.
  • Oh nice. I'm curious what it will be like.
  • Truecoat
I heard they don't have the robot, wtf? That's a key part of the movie.
  • J.D.
I'll pay $10 if I get to see Jaden Smith vaporized by an alien.
  • big daddy
aw, what did jaden smith ever do to you? i dont know about keanu playing klaatu, im not a big fan of his shitty acting, but at least his name is similar. Jennifer Connely is hot, so it might be worth it for that, and i have been wanting to see a good alien movie again.

Remember guys its not a Keanu movie until he gets to say whoa or makes the obligatory Bill & Ted reference.
  • Joe
    Going to be terrible.

"whoa, dudes! this planet earth of yours is heinous!
my robot "Stallion" has, like the power to go bogus on your little green planet!!"
  • LOTNorm
    @John

    That's non-non non-non heinous.

Friend showed me the trailer at his work tonight. Awsome scene with Keanu strapped in some chair. Very freaky. Him and someone (I know I've seen him before). I wasn't too happy with Keanu's closing line but the rest of it looks awsome. This looks like it's going to be a tense one. Great VFX!
