Empire has the movie trailer for Guy Ritchie’s new film RockNRolla. When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs, and all of London’s criminal underworld wants in on the action.  Everyone from a dangerous crime lord to a sexy accountant, a corrupt politician and down-on-their-luck petty thieves conspire, collude and collide with one another in an effort to get rich quick. I’m not quite sure what to think about this new trailer. On one hand it looks like a return to form for Ritchie. On the other it almost feels like Ritchie is doing an impression of his old self. Don’t get me wrong, it instantly looks 100 times more cool at Ritchie’s 2002 bomb Swept Away. Watch the trailer below and as always, tell me what you think in the comments!

Starring Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jeremy Piven, Idris Elba, Tom Wilkinson, RockNRolla is set to hit theaters on October 31st 2008.

Blimey govnor it's Lock, Stock and the Missing Painting...

What's that line about a stopped clock telling the time right twice ?

After this Guy, you gotta find some new tricks.
  • Looking good. Love the new actors as well (Butler and Wilkinson for starters)
  • GR is a one trick pony and this trailer proves it.
  • jb
Looks interesting enough to check out. The slapping sequence and the presence of Thandie Newton make up for the fact that the whole thing seems to be based on a painting.
  • Tristan
    looks intertaining to me.
and i'm lovin' the art style of the poster in the trailer, so badass.
  • @ Tristan.

Me 2.. That poster is awesome. Best poster I've seen in a long time...
  • Vobe
Looks pretty good. Very much Guy Ritchie's style. But i gotta admit it though, i think he could end up repeating himself with RockNRolla.
  • The Jezzus
That shit looks bad ass. Don't know what y'all are talking about.

Plus Id take a Guy Ritchie movie over 100 Soking Aces or other Guy Ritchie wanna be movies.

    Rock and Rolla!

While Jeremy Piven gets on my nerves. The film does look good so far.

Didn't know Karel Roden was in it. He's great.

This has a rising British star in my eyes, he's called Toby Kebbell, you see him towards the end of the trailer quite a bit, with the big shades on. He played Paddy Considine's brother in Dead Mans Shoes. This may push him into the limelight enough to get him in bigger pics. Not too big though :-) Reminds me of Brad Pitts Tyler Durden in Fight Club
  • YoungZe
Need to see this one. :?
  • Ghost
He was also in Control as Joy Division's manager wasn't he?

Looks great, but definitely seems like he's painting with the same colours as his old days, (painting pun intended).
  • Christopher Marc
Toby Kebbell was great in Control, Stoned and in Wilderness (basically a remake of Straw Dogs)...It's nice to see him in a large commercial film like this he'll deliver the goods and steal scenes.
  • Christopher Marc
Toby wasn't in Stoned and The Backwoods (which I thought was Wilderness) I got him mixed up with actor Paddy Considine who looks similar...anyways he was excellent in Control
  • I was hoping revolver would be Ritchie's return to form but I was sorely disappointed. One can only hope that this turns out well.

I think it does Ritchie a disservice to completely discount Revolver when considering his recent films. It didn't hit the mark, but that was because the two lead actors couldn't carry the ending, not because it wasn't a visionary and very well directed film. It hurts me to think that he stepped out and made such a great piece only to have it constantly shit on or completely ignored. If you've not seen it, do yourself a favour and do.....the car accident scene is worth ten rewinds.

interesting thought - before Madonna, Guy Richie makes Lock Stock and Snatch. After Madonna, he makes this. During Madonna we get crap like Swept Away and Revolver and him dropping out of Layer Cake. Young directors, watch out for whatever overbearing queen B pop star you want to marry. They might cut your balls off. But judging from this, you can get them back.
  • Captain Awesome
    Ohiofile,

He was pputtin' the pussy on a pedestal!
  • Christopher Marc
    @Ohiofile

I know exactly what you mean...plus if you were Ritchie where he was before he met Madonna wouldn't you be trying to hookup/marry someone a lot younger and actually good looking??...lol...if marrying someone was going to almost destroy my career I'd want a cranky supermodel or actress not a has been 80's pop star I guess Cyndi Lauper was taken...
  • Before Guy Richie.. Madonna looked like a woman. Now she looks like a tranny madonna impersonator.
Perhaps Guy has some issue's to deal with before he makes another film.
  • odd
where is brad pitt as the pikey? oh shit this isnt snatch? couldnt tell the difference.
  • sherlox
What a f*ckin hack... this guy is makin snatch all over again..... One Trick Pony... God does this guy frustrate me..... going to the well with the Rappers again.. Ludacris is just that... Same graphic style in the trailers..

He reminds of musicians who make a hit and keep trying to recreate it (ie Rob Zombie)... it's what I sarcastically refer to as a "well developed style"

It's like he tried to take a bunch of little scenes from his other sh*t movies and make them relevant in this one... Revolver sucked.. you could see it comin a mile away...and once and for all ... lock, stock was feces too.

Snatch was this guys only decent flick and that's cuz the actors saved his ass... and dont tell me it's cuz of his direction, cuz he couldn't direct Andre 3000 through traffic... let alone a movie scene...

Gah... go bang on Madonna and leave the film world alone.
  • simon
what's wrong with a one trick pony if the one trick absolutely kicks ass?
  • I think it looks good...I love Snatch and Guy Ritchie always has some fun movies...check more of our thoughts at www.fusedfilm.com
  • evilnik
i love lock stock, snatch and i did enjoy revolver on the second viewing.(don't ask why i sat for the second viewing :P...but it paid off).....rocknroll alooks like he back to what he does best!
  • gocitizen
looks badass. I'll take plenty more of these stories as long as the stories are good. Those titles are sweet.
  • Manfred Powell
I'm probably the only person in the galaxy who thinks that Revolover is Richie's best film :D

Not that it's perfect - it's Guy's flawed masterpiece. But you can see he's pushing himself and his craft, and the result is absolutely fascinating.

I get the feeling Guy can do this cor blimey stuff with his eyes closed. But it was Revolover that really had him pushing his craft. Perhaps even a little too far.

I'm sure this new film will be thoroughly entertaining, and I I'm sure he's making this to slip back into his old money making niche. Kinda like Tarantino did after Jackie Brown.

The Cast looks fantastic, the crime is intriguing and I have to say, most of Guy's work isn't too bad. Snatch, Lock Stock and Revolver were amazing. I am wicked psyched to see it for all these reasons and the crazy ass camera affect that locks onto the faces... The typography and overall use of text in the trailer are pretty tight to creating a gritty hard and yet almost video gamey surrealism. I think its going to be wicked.
...Thandie Newton is wicked yummy as well.
  • yh
Lock Stock kicked ass, and Revolver honestly wasn't bad, it just wasn't what most people were expecting. The thing about Rocknrolla that kinda bugs me is that it looks like Lock Stock but with a different prize and a different cast, but the same story. Hopefully the story plays out differently than previous Guy Richie films. The trailer and poster however point to goodness.

    Fucking awesome!
