Twitter has been flush with positive, early endorsements, Slashfilm’s included, for Wanted, the R-rated bulletime fiesta opening this weekend based on Mark Millar’s lauded comic book miniseries. A veddy confident Millar has announced via his message board that the studio is already putting its sequelitis into action, and then he aimed his gold-plated Uzi at Wall-E…and fired!

“PS: Wanted 2 already being planned and they’ve asked me how I can develop some of the other stuff from the book into the sequel. We’ll see what box office is like at the weekend, but everyone knows this is going to make a LOT of dough. Wall-E permitting. Fucking bastard of a wee robot.”

Back in May, when it was far more iffy whether Wanted would rock the box office coffers, we reported that writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt were already locked in to write Wanted 2 for Universal. The original currently has a 7.7 rating on IMDB after 1,000+ votes. A new R-rated comic book franchise that’s worth a damn, could it be?

Discuss: How do you expect Wanted to do this weekend? Are you offended by Millar’s accusation that Wall-E is “wee”?

Shock, horror! If any of our readers want to PhotoShop Wall-E shooting back at Millar while partying in a Jacuzzi, I will include the best/first creation in this post with credit! UPDATE: Slashfilm reader, cinexcellence, created the madness below and is forever immortal. Great job dude!

  • Tom
This Wall-E hype is making me sick
  • Wanted looks so bad. I will go see Wall-e over Wanted any day.
  • Tjardus Greidanus
What a sensational-fucking headline. He was obviously joking around. Nice journalism, Hunter.

With that said, I will be going to see Wall-E this weekend, and will wait for DVD for Wanted.
  • Millar wasn't insulting Wall-E, he's only mentioning how big of a movie it'll be for a small robot. It's the sly Scottish/British humor actually giving Wall-E props :P
  • Dan
    As Indy would say, "Russians....."
  • Hunter Stephenson
I really hope the comments section for this post unravels into a debate about the interpretation of Millar's quote and journalistic ethics.
  • kempsitsdacows13
he said he hopes wanted does well, wall-e permitting... then he calls it a fucking bastard of a wee robot. i wouldn't call that an insult. sure it's a bad name, but it seems more like he's pissed that his movie has to overcome something as good as wall-e.
  • TheMarquis
    Wall-E FTW
  • Nick
I haven't seen the film yet, so I won't pass judgement. I can, however, say how annoying it is when it's repeatedly stated that a movie is based on a comic, when the film COMPLETELY changes the premise of the book. The whole "kill one to save a thousand" bit from the trailer is the exact opposite of the storyline in the comic, where the villains kill, rape, steal, etc. just because they want to, because it's fun for them, and because they can. The only thing this movie appears to have in common with the comic book is the title and the character's names.
  • The only f' bastard are the retards that adapted Wanted. They are pussys.

In the other hand, i saw Wall-E last Saturday and only one word it's on my mind for that 'wee': Masterpiece.
  • Nathan
It'll be a battle to the box office.

Sci-fi geeks, pixar fanboys, and families versus semi-retarded teenagers and violence starved young males.

I'm a young adult and I am hitting a midnight showing of Wall-E. I'll catch Wanted in a few weeks when it hits the $3 theatre.
  • Aqualeo
I think Mark Millar was just acknowledging the fact that his movie has to go up against the Pixar Machine. Wall-E has had two years of hype. Plus it's Pixar. Both movies are totally different and they both look great for different reasons.
  • Can we stop getting fucking sequels to EVERY single summer release please? If I ever see wanted, I'm sure once will be enough, in any form whether it be the original, or any sequel.
  • sari
All I know is that Angelina Jolie is, more often than not, box office poison. I am seeing Wanted, though bc I have a free ticket.

I want to see Wall E but that white robot Eve really really irritates me.
  • Wall.e is interesting visually but ultimately just another saccharine slice of safe family fodder. IMO Wanted is far more vital; visually and thematically. It's like a bullet time Fight Club.
  • mike b
insulting wall-e? i'm boycotting wanted. looks bad anyway
  • Aqualeo
    sari,

I think Jolie will work for this movie. They really have her sexed up with her adding tattoos, and hanging out of the car with the short dress and gun. It's pretty hot. And I think that's what they wanted with her in the movie.
  • hURM
See Hunter? Tardus greidanus was right. look at at mike b's comment. all of us who called you out on this were right, people will be mislead by your damn headline, and stupid people will still think the headline was correct even after reading the article, such as in the case of mikeb.
  • Zach
Hunter seems to like to spin things his own way, Millar is in no way insulting Wall-e, it's completely obvious.

Anyways, I am excited to see both movies, but Wall-e will win my wallet this weekend, that's for sure!
  • crystaline
    "Wanted"?
    *Yawn*...
if i want to escape the heat i'll see walle or go to the mall
  • se7en
Wanted can insult Wall-E all it wants, but Wall-E will still make twice as much as Wanted will.
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @ hURM

Who cares if "people who only read headlines" allow the headline to ruin their day? Who cares what "stupid people" think of the headline or any headline ever? We're not talking about WMDs or Britney Spears's fourth baby, we're talking about a clear faux-feud between a comic book writer and a fictitious robot.

Millar was obviously joking, by requesting that one of our readers send in an image of Wall-E partying in a Jacuzzi, it's obvious we're not really "insulted" by Millar's jest and actually think it's pretty funny.

Please carry on with the yellow journalism diatribes. It's equally hilarious.

    @ Zach

Yeah, you've now entered my Spin Zone. Ride the wave.
  • Ohiofile
I want to see both and for some reason I want to see them back to back, now which to pay for and what order?

  • what the hell? damn it. i never even had a chance to enter. well, to hell with it. here's mine anyway.

Has anyone checked out Wanted's current rating on rottentomatoes? I'm not saying the film is going to hold a candle to Wall-e, but an 83% is hardly a bad score. Pretty dang good if you ask me.
  • Leave the little robot alone. F*ckin idiot!

"I.m a man of my Wuurrrrd."
  • Leave the little robot alone. F*ckin idiot.

"I'm a man of my wuuurrrrrdd."
  • Joe
I've read articles, I've seen the trailers, screenshots, etc., and frankly I still don't understand the hype behind Wall-E. Can anyone enlighten me as to why this is getting so much coverage?

As for the quote, like many here, I believe you're taking it out of context. Obviously Millar realizes that there is much hype and guaranteed success behind Wall-E, so he's just making a joke about what his movie's opening has to go up against.
  • Meli
LoL! I think Millar's comment is fucking hilarious. We all know
WALL-E is going to trump Wanted at the box office. It's fucking hot in So Cal right now and so the parents will be extra eager to take the kiddies to see the latest Pixar film.

My kiddo wants to see both, but I'm on the fence about
taking her to see Wanted. Wall-E is definitely on the weekend schedule. Then later I'll check out Wanted with one of my brothers.

I hope Wanted does make some cash, but that little robot is a shoe in for first place.
  • Chris L.
Damn everyones getting bitter over a headline? Anybody that has common sense would read the whol article and interpret the words there way. People just want to argue...makes them happy.
  • Gary
I think WALL-E will make about 52 million and WANTED will make about 36 million,
  • adam
i'm not six, so i won't be seeing wall-e this weekend. but i will be seeing wanted.
  • J.D.
"Wanted" will do poorly, and "Wanted 2" -- if it even happens -- will be even more of a failure. And Angelina Jolie won't sign on to do another.

And Wall-E will do reasonably well at the theaters.

But seriously -- Is /Film getting any kickbacks from Wall-E? You guys are OBSESSED with the film.
  • Joe
    @ question mark

Thanks. It's not that I'm not interested in seeing it (in fact I most likely will). I just haven't understood why there's so much hype for one film. I suppose it probably does come from the fact that Wall-E is less formulaic than other Pixar films, but it seems like film blogs and the mainstream media are treating it like it's the movie of the decade.
  • Josh
I saw Wanted last week. It was horrible. Nothing like the graphic novel. I HATED The Happening, but it was much better than Wanted. I'm sure this excuse for a movie will make money over the weekend, but please, don't insult us with a sequel.
  • Coral
    lol @ the Wanted bashing.

93% on Rotten Tomatoes when I last checked.

Granted, Wall-E will probably get better ratings but I dont care I'm going to see both.
  • The only f-u-c-k-i-n-g b-a-s-t-a-r-d-s are the r-e-t-a-r-d-s that adapted Wanted. They are p-u-s-s-y-s.

In the other hand, i saw Wall-E last Saturday and only one word it’s on my mind for that ‘wee’: Masterpiece.
  • Robert
    J.D. nailed it.
  • Daemon
Am I the only person who is excited about Wanted? I really enjoyed Night Watch, and Day Watch, which were both in the same vein as this film. I don't expect an academy award winning acting job from the film, or any deep or engrossing story. I just want to see some nice action, something that will take my mind off of the daily grind and let me dream of bullet time gore and glory.

I honestly can't wait to see Wanted. I see people knocking it a lot, but I think it won't be that bad, at least for what I want out of it.
  • big daddy
    no one fucks with wall-e
  • J.D.
/\ LOL! That should be the movie's tagline.
  • Pill
    @Joe:

I am in the same boat. I've exposed myself to all the Wall-E media, read the various articles, watched the trailers and television spots, and I STILL don't understand the hype for this movie.

I can see its appeal, a film aimed towards children in the midst of all the summer action/explosion/Jolie what-not, but I still can't help but feel like I've missed out on some inside factor that is making Wall-E such a "MUST SEE" flick, or makes it stand out all that much from the glutton of other animated films?
  • Captain Awesome
Wanted will get decimated this weekend. I also like Hunter articles, they're like wedgies for nerds.
  • Aqualeo
    Captain Awesome,
I don't think Wanted will die as much. It will be 2nd or 3rd this weekend. 30 million
  • charles
Wall-e is making $60 million or more, Wanted about $20 million.
  • mike
Wall-E will kill Wanted as it should, Wanted looks like fun, but its a blip on the radar next to Wanted, the only thing going for it is that Wanted is R and Wall-E is G...

I just can't wait for Hellboy 2 from Uni...
  • 790
"Well see what the box office is like at the weekend".
Is that what you were talking about Hunter?

rottentomattoes : who cares what they think?

GO! Get um Wall-E. I serioulsy hope he kicks the crap out of wanted. Movie looks lame and I can't wait till its out of the media spotlight. After this weekend I won't have to live thru anymore trailers or reviews.
  • Zach
    @ Hunter:

haha....I've been riding your spin zone since your There will be blood rant.
