It seems very clear to me that movie studios don’t have any clue how to market any of Jonathan Levine’s film s so far. I’ve been waiting to see All the Boys Love Mandy Lane for what seems like forever. It has suffered delay after delay. And the current plan is to release it in August. I think Senator is hoping that the buzz from Levine’s second film The Wackness will direct filmgoers to Mandy. One thing is for sure, this gritty rip-off of the Funny Games poster (which premiered on Shock) probably isn’t the right direction. I mean, how much money did Funny Games make exactly? $1.29 million?

Film Blather says “What distinguishes it from the slasher flock, however, isn’t its kills, but its smarts: the extent to which it taps into the high school psyche and recontextualizes its usual sex-alcohol-and-drugs temptations.” Cinematical’s James Rocchi calls it “the best modern slasher flick since Scream.” Watch the first ten minutes of the film on YouTube.

    The Strangers also ripped off this imagery/design.
  • 'ATBLML' hasn't been released across the pond yet? We got this film in the UK months ago (makes a change for once!), however to be fair Peter, your not missing much. Generic Horror Slasher, nothing was special about this film, except for the seductively attractive actress playing Mandy Lane...

    They're similar. Also known as close-ups. :)

    The Cinematical endorsement looks promising but, when you think about it, even if it is "the best modern slasher flick since Scream" that's not saying too much. And there's also the 6.5 on IMDb.

    @Peter

    I saw Mandy Lane a few months ago it's a really good stylized teen slasher flick. At lot of people were thinking it was going to be your average horror movie, I thought it had an interesting twist at the end. "orange cinema" is right, I'm just heartbroken they've kidnapped this movie and haven't released it yet.

    Now I wouldn't call Mandy Lane “the best modern slasher flick since Scream” because the ending seemed rushed, slightly predictable, and was the weakest point of the film. But some good direction and Amber Heard's performance saved this average flick from being a run-of-the-mill horror film.

    6.5/10
  • Nice mashup

    I'm lost -
    I can agree that the poster doesn't exactly say much about the film, but I don't see a rip-off. They're similar, but had you not made the Funny Games reference it would never have crossed my mind.

    Saw this movie and it rocks.

    Having watched Mandy Lane in Saturday, I can say it sucked serious ass... Thinks it's a better film than it is..

    I saw the movie just because of the cover girl hoping the movie itself would be bearable. I was wrong :( .... about the movie that is :P
  • Wow everyone (Jose) seems to be ripping on this film pretty hard but we actually thought it was pretty good, as you can see from the nearly glowing review: http://fear-theatre.com/2008/07/all-the-boys-lo...

    Your right about the marketing though, I had barely heard a peep about it until we decided to review it. They really could have done a better job getting the word out!
